Verified Trader,
It's been a little while since I have had any sort of Show & Tell thread, but I figured that since things have slowed down a little bit and I have been able to swing back into the hobby a little bit more, that i would share a little of my summer.
The main thing that has kept me busy and away from the hobby this year was the awesome experience of getting married! This past July we finally tied the knot, but it sure wasn't a typical wedding....
We got married on the ice at the local rink we met at!
And those guys you see holding their sticks up, well that my beer league hockey team. Far beyond friends, they are definitely a second family and I was honored to have the be there on our day
Overall it was an amazing time with friends & family but it sure did go by in a blur.
Trust me, the wedding ties back into the hobby/cards shortly...
About the only card/hobby action that I had going on this summer (aside from selling off some stuff to help pay for a couple unexpected costs of the wedding :dizzy: ) was a redemption replacement from Upper Deck. I had a 12-13 SPA Moments Auto of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins that I had redeemed almost a year ago, and decided it was time to swap out.
My replacement:
13/14 SPA Moments Auto Patrick Kane
I was very surprised to see this since it was something from a new release, and the only history I saw of it on ebay was a redemption... I am definitely happy with that swap out though!
Another thing that occurred during the summer was that my main PC player (Taylor Pyatt) was unable to land somewhere in the NHL during free agency. He signed a deal to play in a Swiss league, which from what I can tell will effectively end any further cards being produced of him.
While I still intend on tracing down the last few cards of his that I need, I felt it was time to start collecting someone new. My last attempt at a PC fizzled out quickly as Shawn Hunwick was essentially a one game wonder and had a lockout shortened season/hobby as his RC year. Only one card the following year and you can see why I decided to look for someone else.
I wanted someone that was established, was in a lot of releases annually, and went back a little in time so I could chase some cards from great sets of the past. Also wanted a player that wouldn't break the bank every time something new came along.
Enter Joe Thornton.
I have actually met Joe back in the early 2000s during a signing. He was a fantastic person, and hobby wise he fits everything I was looking for. After searching through my base/inserts of him, I currently have 33 of his cards so I have a LONG way to go. I'll be posting want threads soon enough.
Now, here is where the wedding ties back into the hobby. After returning from our honeymoon, my wife decided she wanted to get me something as a gift that would kind of spark me getting back into the hobby aside from the ebay purchases here and there. So she went to the LCS and picked up a box of 13/14 Contenders for me. Needless to say she picking out ALL boxes for me from now on...
There were 2 Rookie Ticket Autos of Jonas Brodin & Johan Gustafsson and then the standard array of Cup/Award Contender inserts. Then these 2 beauties:
3vs3 Auto Booklet /100 Bergeron, Chara, Hamilton, Gionta, Subban, & Beaulieu
Contenders Eights Auto Lemieux, Bennett, Francis, Letang, Neal, Voukoun, Zatkoff, & Hartzell
14 Autos on 2 cards! :whatthehell:
So that about brings me to where I am now. New PC & ready to slowly get back into my collecting stride. If you are still reading along, thank you for sticking with me!
