NEW PIECE ALERT!

One of our most wanted goalie's NHL items has finally joined the historical archives of Heroes of the Crease: Goaltending Museum and Memorabilia Ltd. This is unique NHL goalie #232 to be immortalized at our museum. Why did we want it? We saw him play in 2005-06 and thought that he was great, his gear was amazing, and one NHL season only was an absolute shame given the potential we thought he had.

What you are looking at right now is a backup worn Atlanta Thrashers home jersey worn by Michael Garnett on April 15, 2006 vs the Boston Bruins. This third set jersey was a promotional set used exclusively for that game which was the final home game of the Thrashers' season and also "Shirt Off My Back" night. Garnett backed up Mike Dunham in that game. It features very light wear and is autographed on the rear number. It was obtained directly from the fan who got it from Garnett after the game. It is NOT for sale, trade, or donation.

Born on November 25, 1982, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Michael Garnett was drafted 80th overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2001. The 2001 Memorial Cup Champion with the Saskatoon Blades got his first NHL recall in 2002, but saw no action at that time. Turning pro in 2002-03, Garnett spent the majority of the season in the ECHL with Greenville, however, saw a pair of games of AHL action. After two more seasons of development in the minors, Garnett got his NHL shot in 2005-06. On October 12, 2005, Garnett made his NHL debut. Replacing Mike Dunham for the final 51:44 of the game vs Montreal, Garnett stopped 29 of 30 shots that he faced in Atlanta's 2-0 loss. From there, until early January 2006, Garnett was effectively the starter of the team, posting a winning record as well as consecutive shutouts as his only two NHL shutouts. He also appeared in 35 AHL games that season.

The 2005-06 season was to be his only NHL experience as he appeared in one more season in North America in 2006-07 before heading overseas to Europe. He was a star in Russia/the KHL until 2016-17, then concluded his career with a pair of seasons with the Nottingham Panthers in England. He officially retired from play in 2019. Since retiring, he became the co-founder and CFO of "Help From Canada", which is a registered charity organization in Canada.

In his NHL career, Garnett appeared in 24 regular season games, going 10-7-0, with 2 shutouts, 2 assists, a 3.44GAA, and a 0.885% save average. He appeared in no NHL playoff games.

This is a photoreference to an identical style jersey he wore that season (not the one we own).

Those uniforms the Thrashers had were fire! Liked the standard home (navy/maroon) best! These are cool too.. such a unique logo, great add and unreal feeling to knock off a most wanted of something
