Jacques Martin new coach of the Canadiens

jacques martin, says he likes the team's nucleaus.

LOL!

let's see.....
UFA, UFA, UFA, UFA, shaky starting goalie with a weak glove hand, backup goalie that might go AWOL because he wantsto be the starter..
injury-proned number one d-man.... 2 kostitsyn's, a couple RFA's, laraque, and more UFA's....

You don't like the Canadiens do you?:D

Am I the only fan that thinks this is a good thing....

We have a guy that built a year in-year out contender in Ottawa (without a goaltender) and though he was gone when they went to the Cup final, he built that team from the bottom up and developped guys like Alfredsson and Spezza since they came into the league....

He is top 10 all-time for wins by a coach, 4 time finalist of the Jack Adams, but he's a brutal coach as per everyone else's opinions....come see me in December when the HABS are fighting for the conference lead with a bunch of no-name youngsters.

I am also glad that Rollie the Goalie is gone....he is obvisouly the reason that last 12 years of Montreal goaltenders have gone downhill....c'mon, Thibault was a top 10 prospect in the mid 90's, Theodore was a former Hart and Vezina trophy winner...it's a definite that your skill doesn't disappear overnight.

I would love to see Francois Allaire back with the HABS. He is the best goaltending coach of all-time, and showed St. Patrick the ropes, and he became the best clutch goaltender of all-time in the playoffs...with Allaire backing Price in his development, expect Price to be fighting for the Vezina for the next 15 years...

This guy has connections to Bouwmeester, Havlat, Hossa and knows the ice from a GMs perspective as well, which will help in his return to the bench (you hear many players that sit down for a few games, and view the game from "up top" and they have a new found love for the game)....he is bilingual which is a necessity in Montreal, and knows other GMs and players around the league that he may believe can fit into his system in Montreal....expect more Canadian and francophone talent over the UFA season.

Can't wait for our second ranked (in the NHL) prospect system to develop under an actual NHL experienced coach who is good with the young guys....everything is positive with this hiring....

Personally, I would rather see a boring, trapping defensive 2-1 win for Montreal (and many other wins of that kind) over high-scoring 6-5 contests where Price is left out to dry (like most of last year).

It's a solid, if not exciting, choice. Martin is going to deliver a good defensive system, team discipline, and stability on the bench.

In other words...

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.............

You are not alone, I also think Martin is a good hire for Montreal.. This team needs a teacher, and that is Martin's strong suit.. They need character, well Martin although not vocal like his contemporaries is a character guy who leads and DEMANDS RESULTS!! This is the same guy that kept Spezza in the minors and 4th line duty when he did not take care of his game on the defensive side of things!! Perhaps, Plekanec, Kostitsyn, Kovalev, Latendresse, and the rest of the floaters on this team will take a little more responsibility or they just might end up watching how the game is played as opposed to playing!!

The problem is, these are not guys that are easy to motivate. More likely, they will shut down rather than be told what to do. Then they'll be out of town, which pobably is not a bad thing either.

best part about the hiring is he is going to drive the media nuts, they think they have troubles get info out of Gainey good luck with Martin LOL

Shape up or Ship out!! it is the way it should be!! Hopefully that message is loud and clear to this team..

There's a Subway in Sturgis? Sweet. I know where I'm taking the kids on vacation this summer. :D:beer:

Population of Strasbourg is 800, btw (Sturgis is about 700)... so we're wayyyyy bigger than Sturgis. But wow, a Subway...we need to work on getting one I guess. ;) My wife is originally from Preeceville...small world (especially in SK).

As for the Habs, I agree, shape up or ship out. I think Martin is the guy that can make that happen, too.

Actually it is in Preeceville, 5 miles W of Sturgis.. I worked in Sturgis, but lived in Preeceville.. Politics of small towns, WOW and our Government thinks they have it bad, try dealing with angry Ukrainian farmers!! Population 800?? Really, WOW, you do have us beat!! But nothing beats living in a small town, when you wake up with a basket full of veggies on your porch, or if you are stuck on the side of a road, 9 cars pass, 9 cars pull over!! In Montreal 9 cars pass, 4 will give you the finger, 2 will laugh and 3 will not even acknowledge that you exist!! Unless of course your wearing a BRUINS JERSEY!! HA!!
