Hello all,

The following cards are pickups from the month of January 2021. As many are aware, I'm chasing very limited sets that are now 16 years old, so it is a daunting challenge to say the least. The aide I've received from the different forums and facebook group members in finding these cards has been superb, so thank you to everyone who has provided information leading to a purchase. So without further adieu, lets get to it!

2005-06 UD Victory Silver /250

Having knocked off most of the big name victory silver cards from this year, the biggest name still on the wantlist was Lemieux. I'm glad to cross that one off the list along with Gonchar, Neidermayer and Lehtonen. I now total 63/200 or 31.5% complete.

2005-06 UD MVP Gold /100 and Platinum /25

While not a list high in my priorities list, I never pass up the opportunity to pick these up in bunches. I was happy to nab this trio which were easy on the wallet.

2005-06 Trilogy Frozen in Time Esposito 25/25

A pretty visually appealing insert card, this is the first of the set for me.

2005-06 UD Notable Numbers LeClaire 8/31

I was very surprised to find out I didn't own any other cards from this set. I have quite a few rookie ink cards, which look similar to the Notable Numbers, but the rookie ink were released in series 2 vs notable numbers in series 1.

2005-06 UD Powerplay Rainbow Parallel (7/37)

I'm always on the lookout for more of these parallels, the lower the print run the better!

2005-06 UD Series 1 Brenden Witt Jersey (3-colour)

A rare upgrade to my multi-colored jersey set, I've missed out on acquiring 3-colour version of the piece numerous times so I'm happy to put it to bed. A nice 2-colour version is available for all the Witt collectors out there!

2005-06 Fleer Ultra Rookie Uniformity Autographed Barker (22/25)

A nice autographed parallel from a once highly touted defenseman. Some interesting hockey trivia featuring Barker, he was the #3 overall pick in the 2004 draft, right after Ovechkin and Malkin! While his NHL career ended in 2012-13 with Vancouver, he's had a decent European career and still currently plays with Rouen in France.

2005-06 UD Trilogy Specialists Jersey Nieuwendyk (3-colour), Thibault (2-colour)

The first of its kind I have seen, really happy to add yet another 3-colour jersey card from this set. Maybe one day I'll find an nice 3-colour Thibault as well. The Chicago jerseys usually yield amazing jersey and patch pieces so here's to hoping! The designers really enjoyed using the NHL shield as the swatch window in various sets including Trilogy jersey and patches. Maybe one day they will try it again as a tribute set or incorporate it in some way moving forward.

Jeff Hoggan Collection

This past month I had the opportunity to acquire a near complete Jeff Hoggan collection, featuring numerous rookie year cards which I was missing. For those who are asking who this player was, he was an NHL player for a short time with stints in St. Louis, Boston and Pheonix. He did have a length professional career spanning 15 seasons in the NHL, AHL and DEL. For the sake of length I won't go into detail per card and only show the rookie year PC, the best of the best will be featured in the following top ten!

And now to the top 10!

#10. Authentic Reebok Toronto Maple Leafs Alternate Jersey Size 58+

The number ten spot goes to not a card but a jersey I have been trying to track down for years. I may be in the minority but this is one of my favorite Leafs jersey they have ever worn, along with the white 1967-70 home whites. I was really hoping they would use this design for their reverse retros, similar to the 2014 winter classics but alas one could only hope. It was quite a bit tougher to track an authentic size 58 than initially anticipated, and would love to add an official goalie cut version of this jersey in the future.

#9. 2005-06 ITG Record Breakers Sawchuk/Parent #14 (20/25)

Unfortunately the scan doesn't do these slabbed cards justice but in person the pieces are popping. I have tried one a few vintage goal equipment from the 70's and I cannot imagine the stingers you would feel stopping anything with that thin leather. Tough way to make a living, especially back then!

#8. 2005-06 UD Trilogy Honorary Scripted Patches Hejduk HSP-MH (5/5) (3-colour)

The second card from this set I now own is an eye catching 3-colour Hejduk autographed patch. Given the print run of these cards, they are not easy to track down, so if anyone has any to offer please let me know!

#7. 2005-06 UD Game Patches /15

I had some great luck this month with these patches, picking up a 4-colour Lehtinen, 3-colour Conklin and a 2-colour Robitaille. For as long as I have been chasing these cards, I'm only a little over half through each series set so there is still tons of cards still to find!

#6. 2005-06 UD The Cup Gold McClement Rookie #182 (3/9)

I was ecstatic when I received the "you've won" notification on the ebay auction for this card, I'm sure many reading this can relate to that feeling. I always appreciated McClements efforts during his time as a Leaf, a bright defensive forward in a generally dark era of Leaf history. Limited to only 9 copies, its not often this card becomes available so I'm very happy to add it.

#5 2005-06 UD High Glossy /10

I have been trying to track down this Lehtonen card for YEARS! When I added the Steve Shields, Mike Dunham and Adam Berkhoel HG cards for my set, I became more determined to add the elusive forth Thrashers goalie to the set. Luckily for me, a pair of HG cards came up for auction featuring the Lehtonen and Vermette cards.

The Hoggan RC came along in the PC I picked up, and it crosses off one of the dwindling list of HG rookies I need for my set. These additions give me 224/487 or 46%.

#4. 2005-06 Hot Prospects En Fuego Shields Hoggan and Alberts (1/1)

The main reason for picking up the Hoggan PC was to acquire this card. I've been trying to acquire this card specifically for 2-3 years and I finally came to terms with the seller. An epic shield to start off the year!

The second Shield, Andrew Alberts, was actually pulled from a pack last year. Crazy to think what incredible cards are still sitting in wax boxes, particularly from this year.

#3. 2005-06 ITG Crosby Series Base Emerald #20 (1/1) BGS 9.5

This card comes from the Sidney Crosby series created by ITG to commemorate his lengthy accomplishments even at the age of 18. This particular card remembers his second straight scoring title while playing for the Rimouski Oceanic. This release featured base, gold parallels numbered to 10 and emerald parallels numbered to 1. While the 1/1 designation gives it inherent value, the fact it is graded BGS 9.5 is an added bonus.

#2. 2005-06 ITG Heroes & Prospects Complete Jersey Gold Sidney Crosby CJ-25 (1/1)

A true one-of-a-kind item, this original release card features pre-NHL Crosby memorabilia including a two-color jersey, two-color patch, tie-down and a 4-colour emblem. The memorabilia was taken from a jersey worn in the 2003 CHL Canada-Russia series, where the QMJHL team took on Russia's best in Halifax on November 20,2003. Crosby recorded a second period goal in a 3-2 loss.

I feel very fortunate that I was not outbid on this card given the numerous Crosby collectors with much deeper pockets out there so it will be a card I will cherish for a long time.

And #1....

#1. 2005-06 UD Phenomenal Beginnings Sidney Crosby Autograph (19/25)

I never thought I would own one copy of this card, let alone two! I went years and years collecting rare cards from 05/06, and I never even laid eyes on a picture of this card. Back track 1.5 years ago, one surfaced for sale and I reached out to the seller and completed a huge cash and trade deal for it. Then a few months ago a second copy surfaces and I quickly nabbed it up as well. Personally, I believe this is the most underrated/ undervalued Crosby rookie release card given the rarity, mystic and odds of ever pulling or obtaining this card.

For those unfamiliar with this card, this Crosby autograph was randomly inserted into boxes which Upper Deck created to commemorate Crosby's rookie campaign. Hundred's of thousands of boxes, normally containing the standard 20-card set + 1 oversized card, were readily abundant everywhere until only about 5 or so years ago, when the supply dried up and they disappeared from retail stores. This indicates a huge production run and very remote odds of finding the randomly inserted autograph.

To date I have only seen the two I now own, has anyone else ever seen any other copies of this card? I definitely feel fortunate to have crossed paths with these cards at the right time to complete a deal. I'm not one to own multiple copies of the same card, but I will make an exception for something this rare.

Very nice stuff, your 2005-06 collection is insane.

Funny I used to own that exact Parrish card #7/37 about 5 years ago. Interesting to see it find its way to you :D

Great to see your continued progress on these 15 year old sets.

I really like those Frozen in Time cards.

Another incredible S&T thread once again. Congrats on snagging another Crosby. Those are probably some of the rarest autographed cards /25 out there!

Your dedication is impressive

So cool. I always had dreams of getting one of those AU cards from those boxes.

Congrats on the new 05/06 cards.
