I was surprised to see this on a local Buffalo site, but not mentioned here yet:

"BUFFALO, NY- The Sabres have acquired another proven scorer as they look to climb out of the NHL's basement.

Sabres GM Jason Botterill sends forward Cliff Pu, a second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft and a third- and sixth-round pick in the 2020 draft to Carolina for Jeff Skinner..

The 26 year old Skinner spent his first 8 seasons in the NHL with the Hurricanes. In 579 career games he has 379 total points. He had 49 points in 82 games last season. During the 2017-18 campaign Skinner had 24 goals and 25 assists. During the 2016-17 season Skinner scored a career high 37 goals. He has scored more than 30 goals 3 times in his career.

He was Carolina's first pick in the 2010 draft and the seventh overall pick in that draft."

I was really looking forward to all the variations on "PU" and "Stinking" from the Buffalo fans and news...

Nice pickup!!! They should be competing this year and sign Skinner long term. If not he will fetch a good price as a rental at the deadline. Great pickup!!!

Another solid signing by the Sabres. Get him signed to a 3-4 year deal at a good price and Buffalo will be going deep by 2019-2020. With three first rounders at the 2019 draft this team will be DANGEROUS for the next few years if they dont draft busts.

Great deal by the Sabres!
I think that holds true right now, but with Canes getting a good prospect and two picks, only time will tell how this pans out. I believe the Sabres also kept their first rounder too, which is nice for them. And having Skinner will prove a boost to their team. Hopefully Skinmer can go back to being a 30+ goal guy again. I think he can.

Great little player, I worry about him staying healthy. If he stays healthy he will be a great asset to the Sabres.

I think that it is pretty low risk-high reward for Buffalo (and Carolina should have been able to get more than just a 2nd and 6th basically). My concern about Skinner other than health is that as a center, he doesn't put up a lot of assists. In fact in many of his years he has nearly or more goals scored than assists. Either his line mates just couldn't score, which may be at least somewhat true, or he wasn't making players around him better.

He's a LW. I'd actually like him to play with Mittelstadt. He's more of a playmaker than Eichel. Jack, Reinhardt, Sheary and Mittelstadt, Skinner, Okposo. Let Skinner be the goal scorer with two guys feeding him. He'll have have 30.

A lot of people are mentioning this combo as well. I also envision Okposo as being the guy who can clean up in front of the net. Mittelstadt clearly has great playmaking ability, and Skinner would be the shooter, Okposo bangs home some rebounds.

I'm actually excited for Sabres hockey this year.

What side of the town are you from? Do you live in Trojan or Indian country? I was a Trojan back in the day.
