Not surprised that this finally happened, Gaudreau gets slashed in the hands almost every game and the league doesn't seem to care to do anything about it. It's an absolute joke the way the league and the officials can consistently turn a blind eye to something like that, but then when our sweet little Connor McPosterboy gets poked with a pinky, the officials dish out penalties right away...
Who knows how long Gaudreau will be out now. Might need to bring the enforcers back. Sorry for my rant, but I'd be curious for more opinions...

News flash, every player gets slashed. Let's not pretend that there is some league wide conspiracy to protect only McDavid. It's a blow for the Flames and the league given how talented he is, but in all honesty it's a miracle that a player the size of a fifth grader has lasted ths long without being injured, and it's a testament to his toughness. I bet he is back within a month.

And no, we don't need enforecers in the game. No place for them now.

Fairly sure teams are trying the same stuff with Mcdavid, not sure the relevance of the comment. Connor shoulder got beat up pretty bad Last year, I don't remember the league making a big deal out of it. It's too bad when a young star gets hurt especially one so important to his team. Unfortunately has always been a league that has a lot of stick work. Hopefully he isn't out too long.

Its not just Gaudreau, it happens to all of the skilled players. Its frustrating to watch thou, as a good 80% of the slashes and hacks go uncalled. Its similar to the clutch and grab that was allowed back in the day. They've sorta fixed that issue, but now its the hacks and slashes they have to focus on.

I feel for the ref's as its easy for us as fans to watch and call penalties from the comfort of our own home. But it is certainly something the league has to crack down on.

Sucks big time thou :(

As an Albertan (and an Oiler fan) I believe he does have a valid point. I watch both teams regularly and I have never seen a star player slashed as much as Gaudreau this year. It is mind boggling that penalties aren't called. NO, it does not happen to every star, he really does get slashed more lately. I don't know if teams have figured out by tapping him he gets out of his game but I would guess he gets slashed 2-3 times as much as McDavid at least and as I said I'm an Oilers fan, not a flames one.

You are all wrong. NO ONE gets slashed more than the Sedins.

Then again, if you're a Habs fan, NO ON gets slashed more than oh, anyone on the Habs roster.

If you're a Hawks fan, you can't believe what people get away with on Toews and Kane.

If you're a Penguins fan, Crosby and Malkin get more abuse than the rest of the NHL combined...

And as someone who seems to (for some strange reason) see a lot of Blues games, I'm surprised Tarasenko can even shoot the puck.

Why do you think Datsyuk retired? Wings fans know it's due to all the slashes he put up with all those years.

Point is, we all think our team's star gets abuse that goes uncalled. It's part of being a fan - you don't tend to see what happens to the other team's stars. To say that one player gets preferential treatment and others get no breaks, is silly.

What I find funny about all the hacking and whacking
at the hands that never gets called.Chop down on the
composite stick, said stick explodes.Hands go up in
protest.Ref proceeds to call slashing penalty.Crack at
the gloves and they'll say it's all part of the game.Makes
sense to me.

Point is,

You missed my post about not being a flames fan, and I'd like to wager you haven't seen many flames games. As I
Said, not a flames fan but could not believe how many times Johnny was slashed against Minnesota!

this sums it up perfectly, lots of stick work since the clutch and grab went out the window

Someone predicted this exact thing would happen, along with other cheap shots we see on a nightly basis once the NHL forced enforcers out of the game. But everyone called him a crazy old man stuck in the 70's who should retire...

I'm not a fan of the goon fest the league became for about 20 years, but I still believe there is a place for enforcers and they need to get rid of the instigator rule. For example, Nazem Kadri deserved to have his face rearranged for his hit on Sedin, instead "super tough guy" Hansen defends his teammate and gets 17 minutes worth of penalties. Players need to police themselves and hold each other accountable on the ice. Instead we have idiots throwing darts at the wheel of no justice.
