Sounds like the NHL gets control again...SO, if the NHL now has control, why wouldn't he just award the team to the NHL?
 
Bettman will be hoofed before season end and Balsilie will have a team by next year. The whole thing has been a complete joke. Makes no sense financially.

NHL: Denied, for now. If they want to play nice with Moyes & Gretzky, and their associated claimants, they can take another run at it.

Wrong on both counts. Bettman, by virtue of Balsillie losing, just won for the NHL, and Balsillie has been rejected outright as an owner by the League's Board of Governors. Bettman's likely just extended his tenure and it's strike three for Balsillie.
If the NHL adjusts the list of who gets paid, they'll likely end up owning the team and can then sell it to the owner of their choice, be it Reinsdorf or whomever wants to pony up the dough. It's Anybody But Balsillie from here in on for Phoenix.

And I'm not saying this because I like it (I don't), but this is the reality of the situation.

Bettman has a job for life at the pace he's going and Balsillie won't ever own an NHL team at his.

what a class act Mr Ballsillie is. and hes absolutely correct, this has been a great step towards more hockey in Canada.

no need to feel sorry. Hamilton will still get a team sooner then later. we've waited this long. another season or 2 wont hurt
 
So as it stands right now nothing has been accomplished except for wasting vast amounts of money on lawyers and they have concreted the fact that no outsider will rock the boat.

Basillie is the only hope Hamilton has for an NHL team, and he's got a snowballs chance in hell at owning one, so I hate to say it, but you have about as much chance of getting one as Halifax does.

that depends how you look at it. one thing that did undeniably come to light in all this mess, is the fact that a Team in Hamilton would be a guarunteed goldmine(admitted by the NHL itself that it would be at least the 5th highest grossing team in the league) so who knows, maybe theres some businessmen with deep pockets who want a crack at this market now? anything is possible. its obvious the league wants to save Hamilton for expansion so they can get 400-500 million.
I honestly believe this is far from over as theres just to many questions left unanswered. one being the lease in glendale.. the team is leaving no matter what. whether its next season or 2 seasons from now, it will never profit in phoenix and is as good as gone. and no matter what anyone here is saying in defence of bettman, the truth is Bettman sold them the sun belt experiment and promised them Huge tv deals and has failed miserably. if he isnt gone before 2010-2011, then i guaruntee hes gone when his contract is up.

Yes Hamilton is going to get 2 teams, Then maybe send one down to Halifax to play in your 10,595 seat arena so there is more to be excited about there other then a couple of Elton john concerts and the filming of a trailer park boys episode
