Nets agree to terms with Lakers G Jordan Farmar

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—Guard Jordan Farmar of the NBA champion Lakers has agreed to join the Nets.

New Jersey added another low-profile free agent Sunday after the NBA’s worst team last season, with more than $30 million to spend, struck out in its bid to lure LeBron James, Chris Bosh or Dwyane Wade.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Farmar averaged 6.9 points and 2.1 assists in 18.1 minutes in four years with the Lakers.

The agreement is contingent on Farmar passing a physical.

The Nets also have reached deals with center Johan Petro and forward Travis Outlaw.
 
Harrington says he's headed to Nuggets

DENVER (AP)—The Denver Nuggets got their big man. Now, will they keep their star?

Free agent power forward Al Harrington says he’s headed to the Nuggets, who are in dire need of frontcourt help with Kenyon Martin, Chris Andersen and Nene coming off leg injuries.

Now it appears the ball is in All-Star Carmelo Anthony’s frontcourt.
 
Cavs sign G Lowry to offer sheet

CLEVELAND (AP)—Looking to rebuild without LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers have signed restricted free agent guard Kyle Lowry to an offer sheet.

Lowry spent last season with Houston, where he averaged 9.1 points and 4.5 assists in 68 games. The Rockets have seven days to match Cleveland’s offer, which a person familiar with the contract said is for three years and includes a fourth-year option. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Rockets have not yet indicated if they will try to retain Lowry.

The Cavs sent out a release confirming their offer to Lowry on Wednesday.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has said the team would match any offers for Lowry and starting forward Luis Scola.
 
Timberwolves agree to deal with Ridnour

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—With so many baby-faced players on a roster that is in the middle of a massive overhaul, team president David Kahn put a priority on adding some experience to help the young Minnesota Timberwolves grow together.

The first veteran addition didn’t come cheap.

The Timberwolves agreed to a four-year, $16 million deal with free agent point guard Luke Ridnour, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been officially announced.
 
Phoenix Suns acquire swingman Josh Childress

PHOENIX (AP)—Swingman Josh Childress has been acquired by the Phoenix Suns in a sign-and-trade deal with the Atlanta Hawks.

Atlanta will get the Suns’ 2012 second-round draft pick as part of the deal.

Childress has played the past two seasons in Greece. The 27-year-old previously spent four years with the Hawks.

The 6-8, 210-pound former Stanford player is a career 52-percent shooter. He signed a five-year contract with the Suns.
 
Lakers welcome Blake, confirm Fisher’s return

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP)—Derek Fisher officially is back with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Steve Blake is grateful to join him.

The two-time defending NBA champions showed Blake around their training complex Tuesday, a week after the former Clippers guard agreed to a four-year, $16 million deal to change locker rooms at Staples Center. Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak says the club has discussed acquiring Blake for several years.

The Lakers also formally announced Fisher had agreed to return for his 12th season with the Lakers. Fisher talked to the Miami Heat during free agency, but said Monday he’ll stay with Los Angeles at the urging of Kobe Bryant.

The Lakers also have Sasha Vujacic under contract for next season.
 
Bulls finalizing deal for G Watson

CHICAGO (AP)—A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that the Chicago Bulls are finalizing a sign-and-trade deal with the Golden State Warriors for guard C.J. Watson.

The Warriors would likely receive a 2011 second-round pick. The person spoke Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because the deal was not official.

Watson can play both guard spots, though his primary role with the Bulls would likely be to back up All-Star Derrick Rose at the point. He has averaged 8.7 points in 23 minutes per game over three seasons.

The move would be the latest in a busy offseason for the Bulls, who have also acquired two-time All-Star forward Carlos Boozer, sharpshooter Kyle Korver and shooting guard Ronnie Brewer—who all played together in Utah.
 
Warriors sign undrafted free agent Jeremy Lin

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—Jeremy Lin took a seat in a small room in front of an array of television crews, photographers and print media on Wednesday afternoon. He’d never seen anything like that at Harvard.

“This is unbelievable,” Lin said after the Golden State Warriors signed the undrafted free agent guard. “I’ve never been part of something like this.”

He became the first Asian-American player signed by the Warriors since 1947. In an area with a large Asian population, Lin becomes an instant celebrity.

“I consider myself a basketball player more than an Asian-American,” said the Bay Area native. “I’m ready to play at this level and I appreciate the support of the Asian community. This is a dream come true. I always wanted to be in the NBA and now I get to do it with the Warriors, the team I grew up watching.”

The 21-year-old Lin averaged 16.4 points, 4.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game as a senior at Harvard. The season was highlighted by a 30-point, nine-rebound performance against Connecticut.
 
76ers sign free agent Battie

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—The Philadelphia 76ers have signed free-agent center Tony Battie.

Team president Ed Stafanski said Wednesday that the 76ers want Battie to provide frontcourt depth and a “veteran presence” for younger players.

Terms of his contract were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-11 Battie has averaged 6.4 points and 5.3 rebounds over 12 NBA seasons. He has also appeared in 51 playoff games and was a member of the Orlando Magic’s Eastern Conference title team in 2008-09.
 
Matthews officially joins Blazers

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP)—The Trail Blazers have signed shooting guard Wesley Matthews after the Utah Jazz declined to meet Portland’s five-year, $34 million offer for the restricted free agent.

Matthews, an undrafted free agent out of Marquette readying for his second year in the NBA, averaged 9.4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 24.7 minutes for the Jazz last season as a rookie. He appeared in all 82 games last season and started in 48.
 
Bucks, Kings complete Brockman-Jackson trade

MILWAUKEE (AP)—The Milwaukee Bucks acquired a fan favorite when they completed a trade Wednesday for Sacramento Kings forward Jon Brockman.

Bucks general manager John Hammond said he thinks Bucks fans will love Brockman, too.

“Any fan base anywhere will appreciate a player who plays with the type of energy he does,” Hammond told The Associated Press.

The Bucks completed a sign-and-trade deal for Brockman in exchange for forward Darnell Jackson and a 2011 second-round pick.
 
Cavs deal West to Wolves for Sessions

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—Goodbye, LeBron.

Hello, Ramon.

The Cleveland Cavaliers completed their first post-LeBron James(notes) personnel move on Monday night, trading troubled guard Delonte West and point guard Sebastian Telfair to the Minnesota Timberwolves for point guard Ramon Sessions, 7-footer Ryan Hollins and a future second-round pick.

After James dumped the Cavs on national television and fled to Miami to join Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Heat, owner Dan Gilbert sent off a scathing letter to Cleveland fans vowing to win a title before LeBron does.

The Cavaliers tried to start the roster makeover by signing restricted free agent point guard Kyle Lowry to an offer sheet, but the Houston Rockets matched it. So they settled on Sessions, a quick, pick-and-roll specialist who spent last season backing up rookie Jonny Flynn on the woeful Wolves, as their new point guard.
 
Hinrich joins Wizards, Wall in rebuilding

WASHINGTON (AP)—Kirk Hinrich still remembers his surprise and dismay being traded to the Washington Wizards.

That was more than a month ago. Now he gets to help John Wall adjust to the NBA.

“Whenever you get the No. 1 pick and a guy as talented as John, you have the young cast around him, its a sense of rebuilding,” Hinrich said Monday. “But I feel like we have the talent and if we play the right way and consistently play hard every night, I feel like we can surprise a lot of people.”

Hinrich originally said he was a bit surprised when the Chicago Bulls dealt him in June to free up cap space for a free-agent class that included LeBron James.

While admitting that he has “maybe a little bit” of a chip on his shoulder following the deal, Hinrich emphasized his enthusiasm over the new start.
 
Hawks sign former Lakers F Powell

ATLANTA (AP)—Josh Powell has signed with the Atlanta Hawks as a free agent after spending the last two seasons as a backup with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 6-foot-9 Powell was signed to provide depth behind Hawks center Al Horford and power forward Josh Smith. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Powell, from Riverdale High School in Atlanta, averaged 2.7 points in 63 games with the Lakers last season.

Powell was not drafted out of North Carolina State in 2003 and played in Europe before joining the Dallas Mavericks in 2005. He also played with the Golden State Warriors, Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers. He started 25 games with the Clippers in the 2007-08 season.
 
Raptors officially sign F Linas Kleiza

TORONTO (AP)—Toronto has signed free agent Linas Kleiza to a multiyear contract.

The Raptors acquired the rights to Kleiza nine days ago when the Denver Nuggets opted not to match Toronto’s offer sheet.

Kleiza played with Greek club Olympiakos last year after four seasons in Denver. The 6-foot-8 forward from Lithuania—who attended high school in Maryland—averaged 8.3 points with the Nuggets.

The Raptors, who lost free agent Chris Bosh to the Miami Heat earlier this month. Toronto also traded Hedo Turkoglu to Phoenix and re-signed free-agent forward Amir Johnson, among other moves.
