Just how well have the OPC Update sets been received

Just wondering from fellow collectors how the factory OPC update sets have been received.
Are they going over well or was it a mistake on Upper Deck's part to not release the set in packs.
How much do you think has been produced?Will these rookies ever reach the modest value that the
last years update rookies have reach.
I do not see the interest here on the board from collectors like last year over this product.
So I am just a bit curious.Thanks for any comments that you may have,Winston.
 
for me I bought a couple, opened them and then closed them. So not exciting at all. Definitely cheaper then putting a set together via a case but no excitement whatsoever
 
i got one, opened it, closed it when i realised it wasn't in numeric order.

i don't want to sort them, but eventually the ocd in me can't have a full set there not in order.

in terms of ease, not so bad, i didn't like this years opc anyways, my favourite year was 07/08.
 
One word: TERRIBLE

OPC is one of the most collected brands in the hobby. To release the update this way was a MASSIVE mistake IMO. The rookies will have very little value which may affect years past as well. It was a highly anticipated release with the metal auto parallels as one of the selling points. I am hugely disappointed in UD for this release...

Frank,

I haven't been able to confirm the info that I had for the reason of the dropping of the Metal cards, but if it is correct, ANY company would've made that decision to drop it, unless you want a price point that would likely be significantly increased for what is supposed to be a base brand.

They could have easily scrapped the "Metal" idea and gone with a simple Update version with retro, gold and retro rainbow parallels. Add the jerseys, autos and maybe come up with new insert sets and this could have been a low-end release that would have been quite popular. Anything would have been better than the boxed set idea

Actually, I think that would have been a bad thing to do. There are a lot of OPC set builders that simply would not have been able to afford to complete there set if it was released with OPC Premiere. It also would have severely limited the production run of a core base set, which IMO is a bad idea.

I never said it wasn't overpriced but if they add OPC Update to it, then they'd have to up the retail price for it to make sense for the bottom line, which to me would push people away from ripping it
 
My LCS got 14 "sets". Did a Sunday card show, sold None. Sold zero sets at the store the next two days, so opened 5 for the inserts and GU. Hit 3 GU, put them in the window, with the inserts, and had sold zero three days later. Did sell one opened complete set for $25. That is one example.
 
I'm torn...while I love getting the case in and seeing what I can pull, I did bring in 40 of these sets to sell.

I very quickly went through half of them through my eBay store (not overly cheap, either, but at what I figured was a fair price) to some buyers all over Canada, US and a few overseas.

I have opened a few as well and sold off the 601-800 as opened sets without the parallels at roughly half the cost. I have found the rainbows have been selling very well.

My LCS owner brought in a case of 20 and opened them all - hit some great jerseys (that sold for $100+ in a couple of cases), and again, helped some set collectors finish the 601-800 sets for a good savings.

So, yeah, I'm torn...not my cup of tea per se, but as a seller, they've been going very well, although I found it strange that nobody here on HI bought any from me :p

I'm looking forward to my case of Ice, tomorrow, though, so I'm back to ripping!

They are essentially The Plague to the box break and flip crowd. I got two sealed sets thrown into a trade for virtually nothing this past weekend.

The set is great for those of us who built OPC, and a good low-end deal for us Avs fans. Of course, it would have been a MUCH better product had they provided Retro continuity.

I personally didn't open up any set this year. I will wait until they come down in price before I bust for the single cards. I just picked up 50 of each of the Avs Rookies and Craig Anderson for less than the cost of 5 sealed sets. If you have not tracked down the parallels you need after the first wave of these sets get broke...it could be a long uphill battle for player collection needs in the future.
 
We sold 18 of the initial 20 ordered in the first week. Pretty much all of them went to our case breakers who wanted to finish off the set.

I did have a fellow in from Kitchener on the weekend who said everyone was sold out of them in the K/W area - plus they were selling them for $70 ????

Anyway, I picked up 4 more so I have 6 sitting on the shelf. I am not to worried about selling them - the price is cheap enough - they will eventually sell.
