Kane making another bad decision in Buffalo

Patrick Kane decided to play in the annual 3 on 3 Gus Maker Basketball tourny that happens out here in Buffalo every year......seriously, I just don't get it! What happens if he brakes something, especially a leg or foot?! I know a lot of teams have clauses against players doing something like this. Just when I give this kid the benefit of the doubt, he goes ahead and does something completely stupid! Not to mention, a pic of him playing is on the front page in one of the sections of the paper..............let me know if i'm over-reacting
 
Imo you are over-reacting. Lots of players use other sports to train. Do you want him not to work out all off-season in case he gets hurt?
 
Objectives

I clipped this from the Gus Maker website but really who knows exactly why he is doing it and its pretty tough to come down too hard on the kid a couple weeks after hoisting the greatest of all trophies. Him and a couple buddies could have been going for years, some kid at the hospital asked him to drain a three, raise money for lupus, etc - it really doesn't matter too much and I am sure he is well aware of the backlash that would come down if he got hurt.

In the end - he wasn't riding a motorcycle drunk or shooting himself in the leg at a club - I'll let him slide on this one.
 
Basketball is one of the dumber sports you can play when you're a pro-athlete. (Unless you're being paid to play basketball)

Ethan Moreau broke his ankle playing basketball and was a write off for pretty much the whole season.
 
I thought he wanted his change back again.

I watched Carlo Friggin' Colaiacovo play in our baseball league just weeks after having his knee surgically repaired. I watched him slide into second base and aggravate his repaired knee and then I watched as the news reported THE NEXT MORNING that he reinjured his knee during practice. All while the ink was fresh on his new contract with the Leafs that paid him $2 million per season.

How happy do you think I was to find out that the Leafs traded his *** to St. Louis? There's nothing wrong with playing other sports to keep yourself in shape, but be honest about it. Oh wait, honesty would kill your $2 million per year won't it? I was SO tempted to report him to the Leafs.
 
See that's how I feel about it! I mean ok if anything is for charity, it's always great, but he could also open up a charity instead of poss. risking his career.....well there's no way he could have dodged this bullett if he got hurt, like I said, he's on the front page of the one section of the paper

Its really not that serious
 
Joe Sakic wrecked his hand using his snow blower and was out for a season. A little charity bball shouldnt hurt that bad. If he were to get injured then its tough cookies for the Hawks. Stuff happens in life that is out of our hands. A person has to have a life outside of hockey.
 
you're definitely over-reacting. he managed to make it through the first 20 some odd years of his life intact and make it to the NHL level. he'll be fine.
 
Once again, I bet you never made a mistake in your life and no one ever gave you a second chance...... These players, KIDS, are not robots. They are young, loaded with coin, and once in a while they will make mistakes. This isn't a Dany Heatley situation, or like others have said he didn't shoot himself in the leg, or he didn't Kobe Bryant someone in Colorado, he was drunk and did something stupid. No, instead he's doing something for charity so let's bash him for it.
 
I wouldn't think much of it. Now if he gets hurt then everyone can complain. I know the Wings do a charity softball game every summer and even though it's softball anyone can get hurt. If I'm a fan I say just stay out of trouble with the law.
 
More guys get hurt working out in the gym than they do playing b-ball or baseball. I don't see an issue here at all.
 
If he's going full out, elbowing and pushing and cruising for a torn ankle, then yeah, he's not the brightest bulb in the socket, but seriously, slamming someone for helping promote a charity cause? I'm sure more NHL'ers are harmed in drunken golf cart accidents, yet you don't hear of them banning NHL'ers from playing golf in the summer...



... because THEN what would the Leafs have to do for 4 and a half months until training camp? :D

I'm not bashing him for doing something for charity...all the proceeds from everyone that played went to charity. I'm just saying he doesn't exactly have a great track record, and living 5 minutes from where he lives here in Buffalo, there are A LOT of things that happen that nobody outside Buffalo hear about. I love him as a player, kid or not, when you are a sports star and you know your in the spotlight, may want to control yourself at times............

As far as the basketball situation, if he hurt himself in that game it would have been a TOTALLY different reaction, especially from the team organization!
