Did you watch the Boston/Washington game today? I would have to go and read the rule, but I'm pretty sure if a goalie punches with his blocker it's a major or match penalty? Thomas threw two blocker punches to Chimera's grill and all he got was a double roughing minor I believe. Very inconsistent with the rule calling, but I guess we should be used to it by now.

Rypien DID indeed throw punches with the "taped" hand. If I remember correctly, the big stink was that the Canucks (Rypien) had even asked about it being taped BEFORE the game (he had an injured thumb) and was given the Ok by the league. Also, it's not like his hand was really "taped" up either...he had some tape that went from his wrist around his thumb (on his right hand, and Rypien MOSTLY throws lefts).

Well, that settles that part of it. But then Tony brings up the Eager thing.

I think we can all just agree the NHL does not call things consistently. Then again, that's not news to any of us.

I've watched the Kane/Cooke 'fight' about 20 times tday. And it's still one of the best TKOs I have ever seen.

Well, we shall see if the league is going to stand behind their "new rule" on intentional blind side hits that target the head. Pronger had a text book blind side hit to the head of a vulnerable player (Jody Shelley) and hit him square in the head today. In the same game, Jody Shelley had a blind side hit to the head of Daniel Carcillo. By the new rules, both players should be sitting down with the NHL brass prior to playing another game right? We'll see if that happens, I strongly doubt it, but if they are going to make a huge fuss about it, go through all the meetings and press debacle over it, they darn well should enforce it.

Still love watching this KO, but I have a feeling next year Kane will be on the receiving end of a knee or hit from behind by a certain #24.

A person being knocked out is not 'hurt?'

Again, there seems to be too much stuff around semantics. To me, it's pretty cut and dry. Kane had tape below his wrist, Cooke was knocked to the ice and stayed there to the point that medical staff brought out a stretcher (though not needed), so yes, I'd say he was hurt, in a way.

Semantics are wonderful.

It'll be interesting to see how Cooke gains revenge next year. Any slime ball like him would do nothing less. Maybe we can call this thread up again after he does :rolleyes:
 
I appreciate that Kane stepped up and did his damage in a fight, not with some sort of cheap, dirty play. That's how this sort of thing should be settled in the league IMO.

Well, he's refused to fight Lecavalier and Vinny challenged him every game against the Pens, twice in the last one. So I doubt Cooke will do anything.
 
It would be hilarious to have everyone send that picture to Cooke and write something along the lines of "From Marc Savard" or something to that effect on it.
