Keith Ballard....

I'm sure Ballard feels like a steamy bag of monkey poo, but he deserves a fine and/or suspension simply for the careless use of his stick. The fact that it was a teammate that he hit and it was quite obviously an accident, doesn't excuse the fact that a player is supposed to maintain proper control of his stick at all times. And swinging for the fences isn't the kind of control the NHL has in mind....

Are you a medical doctor? Are you basing your comment on your vast knowledge of possible head injuries or potential head trauma? Or, have you had a professional hoockey player do a two-handed full-around swing at your head with his stick? Are any of these things how you think Vokoun being carried off on a stretcher is 'ridiculous?'

Hoockey? Perhaps you've had a trauma or two to the head.

Yes, I have extensive training in athletic injuries. What's your next question?

So, based on your alleged expertise on the subject, you are trying to convince us all that, based on seeing a replay on a television, you can come on here and call the stretcher 'ridiculous?'

Are you such an expert that you can tell without being there that it was 'ridiculous.'

Wow. I am very duly impressed. You must be one of the top atheltic injury specialists in North America, to be able to tell it was 'ridiculous' from seeing it on a TV screen.

Oh, and by the way. If the best you can come up with is highlighting one spelling mistake, and making a snide comment about it, you are actually quite more pathetic than most people on this site already think you are.

You talk about me with your online friends? Why? I'm flattered!

Yes, that was my opinion. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. Apologies if you're offended by it.

The very insensative and juvenille side of me narrated a snickers commercial while watching the video. "Ever really need to get away?........"

the more compassionate and adult side of me hope that Vokoun is ok and that he gives Ballard a good wack to the back of the legs the next chance he gets.

AS for punishment I guess you could technically make a case for a suspension since it would most likely would have resulted in one if they were on opposing teams (even if it was clearly an accident it was extremely reckless). Personally I think stupidity should be a punishable offense... and not just in hockey. :)

Oh God I cringed. Oh....geez.

Ballard has to be feeling bad. Obviously. Probably not as bad as Vokoun is though. It did appear that blood was coming out of his ear. The stretched just might've been a precautionary, in case he couldn't keep his balance while skating back.

As for suspension/fine, I think the team should handle that themselves, maybe with some guidance from the league.

Hope it looked worse than what it really was and Vokoun is playing again soon.

Carried off on a stretcher??? Seems like the right thing to do to me. The trainer on the ice has no idea as to the extent of his injuries right then and there. Even basic first aid training tells you to hold the person in "C-spine" until an ambulance arrives and they can then be transfered to a stretcher. You do not mess around with head and neck injuries. This is all done regardless of the type of injury. Surely someone swinging a stick as hard as they can and hitting you in the head warrants a stretcher for at the very least.... safety precautions. I also have fairly extensive knowledge in athletic injuries, but anyone who simply saw the incident would be a (insert choice word here) to say that the stretcher was "ridiculous".

Turns out Vokoun has a cut to his ear and needed a few stitches. Imagine that. He'll probably make his next start.

Yes he took a good solid shot to the noggin, but he was also wearing a fairly sturdy mask, no? One designed to absorb the impact of a hard rubber puck travelling at 100+ mph. Right?

It boils down to this...your teammate makes a stupid mistake and is standing there feeling like a fool. The longer you lay on the ice the worse it becomes. It was obvious that Vokoun was a little dazed but had full movement, he raised his arms to his head and took his mask off on his own and held his hand to his face and freaked out a bit when he saw the blood. No doubt it hurt like a *****. But c'mon, it's pro sports. You're not an old lady in the crosswalk that got bumped by a car. If you can get up, you get up. The stretcher was overkill.

I'm really glad you were never an EMT at a rink I played at.

"No major organs or bones are hanging out, GET UP YOU PANSY!"

If you're ever injured on the rink I sure hope the attending EMT can tell the difference between blood coming from a cut to your ear and blood coming out of your ear.

Yeah it was boneheaded. But I dont think he even knew he hit him, or he probably wouldnt have swung his stick a second time to break it.
Cant call him an idiot for an accident or everytime someone hit their own teammate in the face with a puck or layed out a teammate with a hit would have to call em all idiots. Boneheaded mistake, yes, forsure.
I also agree he probably feels worse than anyone right now and even though I am a fan of his I still agree that there should be some reprecussion in some way, wether from the team or the league. The stick swinging and hissy fits like that just dont work for me no matter who does it, or to who.

What's he doing taking a home run swing at the net anyway? Guy's a multi-millionnaire and yet here he is acting like a five year old who just struck out at tee-ball.

Sure, "he didn't mean to hit him" and "it was an accident", but that doesn't change the fact that he's a buffoon.

How would you guys react if someone got mad about the price of gas , drove away in a fury and "accidentally" rear-ended your car? Pretty pissed, I'm sure.

And hey, its not like allowing goals is anything new for the Panthers - Ballard should be used to it by now!

ballard was just miffed that he screwed up on the play and took it out on his stick. it looked like he tried to hit the post. anyway, other people have done it - ballard just happened to swing his stick when vokoun was getting up from the ice. head meets stick. freak accident.

does he feel bad? probably. a fine? probably not...maybe a meeting with the coach.

I cannot for the life of me fathom 2 things:
1) Why this thread continues as it does
2) Who NNeves thinks he is.

Thread done, as is the member in question for a while.
