Khudobin collection....a 1/1 doozie!!!

Here's a Show n Tell of my modest Anton Khudobin collection.

Here is the background of why I like Khudobin.... I attended Anton's first ever NHL start on Feb. 6, 2010 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. I do a local radio show in the town I live in and get to attend some Wild games in the press box. I was in the press box for this game. The Wild were playing the Flyers and Anton won 2-1. It was his 2nd NHL win, as he won during his NHL debut a few days earlier in a relief appearance for an injured Josh Harding.

After the game, I visited the locker room and of course, Anton was the center of all the attention by the media folks. I got to listen to him getting interviewed. He was giddy as a 12-year old...just totally happy to be there. The enthusiasm was so genuine. After all the "real" media guys were done with him, I stayed awhile and talked to him 1-on-1 while he took off his gear. Was a funny guy. Just great to talk to him. After that, I figured I would start a collection of his cards. I've acquired quite a few. And even though he was traded to Boston late last season, he left a mark with me. Just a great kid.

The emblem piece is from the 2010 AHL All-Star Game Patch. What Patch looks like:

Khudobin in the 2010 AHL All-Star Game in Portland, Maine, where this jersey was used in (Jan. 19, 2010). He is in the middle and you can make out the patch that the emblem came from on his left shoulder:

Cool side-note...I was stationed in the US Navy in Brunswick, Maine, from 1978-1981. I went to a lot of the Maine Mariners games in Portland during the 1980-81 season. The goalie for the Mariners back then? Some guy named Pelle Lindbergh...another goalie I loved to watch. I knew that year he would be a future NHL star!

Nice stuff Curt! Always fun to see stuff about goalies, and I always thought that Khudobin could be a good #2 at worst. Minnesota gave him a chance and he did well, but Boston will not due to Thomas and Rask being so good a tandem.

That must be fun to have acces to thedressing room and talk to the guys. I had the chance to meet Eller last year before he scored his first goal and I said to him that is hard work wasn't unnoticed and the very next game he scored his first goal so I was really happy for him. Khudobin looks happy on the picture and I bet he was really happy to talk to someone a little bit outside of the circus that the media can be.

The small collection is pretty nice too!!!

Love the Khudobin collection Curt. I didn't realize that he had so many cards, or that you had consumed the majority of them! The story and pics are awesome. Great to see them again and great to see that the Emblem arrived home safely.

I'm glad the emblem could find the right home.
It was amazing when I pulled it, but at the end of the day, it didn't mean nearly as much to me in my collection.
Damn internet, those pictures live forever. BTW, I still have the Richard Complete that I'm holding in my other hand.

Hey, John, I inquired about that card with Darren when you first pulled it (and kept that picture to admire the card). He told me you were keeping it. Never thought it would resurface...but a year later, lo and behold, it did.

Thanks again for doing a deal with Jeremy that allowed me a chance.

And that Richard is also amazing! :beer:
