Kim Winslow

There are MANY!!!

Mike can make a better assessment than I given who he works with, but Kim Winslow is fairly average. She's at a bit of an obvious disadvantage, so it seems to me like every time she steps in the cage, she feels like she has more to prove, and gets really rigid and more by the book than others.

I heard Winslow made a couple mistakes last night, like standing fighters up too early, and allowing King Mo take extra shots after Larkin was out.

Winslow still hasn't done the worst late stoppage I've ever seen in MMA. Check out Len Koivisto's reffing of the Kim Couture/Sheila Bird fight.

King Mo landed 17 unanswered, undefended shots. While none of them knocked Larkin out it was completely unnecessary for that to have happened.

edit: Just listening to a King Mo interview where he said he felt him go out twice, and twice punched him back into consciousness.

Her most egregious job as of late however, was the Ronda Rousey/Julia Budd fight where she let Ronda grotesquely dislocate Budd's elbow.

She seems to be a fan of violence, and promoting it where she can...

I can't elaborate on who, because it would be very unprofessional. But there are a few out there who are just plain terrible.

This thread actually gives me a great idea for a contest. I will obtain the prize this weekend and announce the contest next week.

I am intrigued.

It sounds like I'm a Kim Winslow sympathizer in this thread, and I'm really not an advocate for ****ty reffing, but the Rousey/Budd fight, well...I've never thought that injury was her fault. To me, that was a similar situation to Josh Rosenthal in Mizugaki/Faber ... Rousey and Budd were belly down away from the action, and Winslow was checking for a tap, but nothing came until they were rolled on their backs and the elbow joint had separated. Tough situation to be in as a ref, especially since Rousey's last fight was mired in unnecessary controversy for an early stoppage.

I have a lot more to say about the King Mo thing, but I don't think my comments are worth a whole lot since I don't fight...I don't train, and I don't know what goes through someone's head in the cage to keep going even after they know their opponent is unconscious or unable to defend themself...it might just be instinct or the programmed expectation that the referee is supposed to stop them.

I just found the video, but after the fight Ronda Rousey did a brief interview where she said she felt Julia Budd's arm going, but had been told by Kim Winslow not to be saying anything to her, and Kim wasn't saying anything to either fighter so Ronda torqued it some more then flipped her over to expose the arm. I don't know the whole no communication thing seems a little weird. I know you're going to get bad stopages like Wiman/Danzig, but c'mon. No talking in the cage...
