Koivu a duck

One of the Ducks' big problems last season was finding secondary scoring.

They now have:

Ryan-Getzlaf-Perry
Lupul-Koivu-Selanne

So it looks like they've managed to correct that issue. They did, however, lose Pronger and Beauchemin so they've been severely weakened on the backend. Having Whitney and Wisniewski all season will help some but likely not enough to overcome losing those big 2.

Saku will forever be remembered as one of the great Canadiens of all time. He may not have ever won a Cup like most of the others, but few wore the jersey with as much pride, dignity, and honour. Good luck in Anaheim!

He'll be missed, he did a lot in the community. He's had his ups and downs on the ice, but he's a solid playmaker that can help a team if he has the finishers on the wing.

3.25 million for the year seems reasonable. Not sure why the Canadiens couldn't find a way to liberate that kind of money for him, but I guess management had other plans.

At least he won't be subjected to the "Why don't you speak French?" in Anaheim, plus he gets to play with Teemu.

Best of luck.

That is a pretty nice first two lines
Go Ducks!

It's sad to see Saku go, and I wouldn't have dreamed it would be in Anaheim. Being the Habs captain is the hardest thing to do in the league. He had to deal with so much adversity as captain that it was unbelievable on and off the ice (from the cancer and that dumb separtist lawyer questioning his French).

A lot of people have forgotten exactly how the Habs won the Cup and that was teamwork and leadership from every member of the team, whether French, English, or any other nationality....

P.S.: I think Hainsworth and Shutt never got their fair shake for their accomplishments in Bleu, Blanc, et Rouge....

kind of a bizarre signing. Not a characteristic Ducks forward at all. I don't doubt the guys character but the physical play that the Ducks pride themselves on isn't really part of the package. Hope he and Teemu can stay healthy for the season.

Do you know anything about Koivu? I don't think you do.

No, he's not going to win any fights or decimate anyone with a check but he's tough for his size, doesn't shy away from anyone and goes to the net. In last year's playoffs, he was the only one with the balls to go up against Chara when everyone else on this team (including the internet legend, Alex Kovalev) would do their best to avoid the Big Z

Koivu+Selanne in finnish national-team = something perfect. I can't see any reason why that duo couldn't work out just fine in Anaheim.

I wish all the best to Saku and his new team. Following season is going to be interesting...

Yeah, he's not a power forward at all, but he's a hard-nosed guy with good playmaking skills. Still, it's gonna be hard for that second line to get going against bigger defensemen. Lupul can be VERY physical when he wants to, but then there's the other 85% of the time.

I admit it... I haven't gotten over the fact that he's not a Hab anymore and I probably never will. I hope he does very, very well in Anaheim. He'll get a huge ovation in Montreal when the Ducks come to play.

You definitely have been watching. That is all true. I'd also like to add that when a D-man rifled a shot at the net and it nearly creamed Koivu in the face that it was Koivu who was telling his teammates not to worry, not to play soft, and keep shooting like that. And we all know Koivu's had some intense injuries in the past. A very tough hockey player, he is.

I must be the only one happy about this.

See ya !

15 years of mysery, 6-7 coach , 4-5 G-M and 2 playoffs apperance in round 2 since he became our first center can now be forgotten.
