Kopitar Shield 1/1 Replacement Mail Day - How did I do?

I received these today as replacement for the 2006-07 Hot Prospects NHL Shield 1/1 Anze Kopitar that I redeemed a while back. I was told to expect $1500 BV.

Here are the replacements. Please let me know your opinion.

I would be less than impressed...for a 1/1 SHIELD patch you got 5 rookie cards #ed to 499 or more (the Crosby)
Sure they all book pretty well, but you lost something unique and were reimbursed with common cards. Valuable, but common just the same
 
See- thats a tough one because the cards are so plentiful. They definitely have value to them... but they aren't at all rare.

I would guess the Kopitar would be worth about $1K.

I would think you could recoup most of that if you sold all 5 cards.

I guess it depends on what you were planning on doing with the Kopitar.
 
Those 5 replacement cards for 1 shield really doesn't do it for me at all!!! I'd be smoking mad!!!! I would of only settled for 1 card with the same bv....that's totally an easy way out for them!!! Should of tried to snag another shield card from any future UD product released!!
 
Well, I've decided that I am disappointed with the replacements, but maybe something good can come of it.
The cards are up as a lot on the bay, with 10% of final proceeds going to the Baby Chatfield Trust.

EDIT May 8/08: Visited the local money pit today. The shopkeep is doing the SPX set, and needed all 4. He wanted the Crosby YG's too. Most of what I got back was trade and some future consideration for upcoming wax, but 10% of the cash I got today will still be donated to the Baby Chatfield Trust fund.

A year from now this will be a no-brainer....the Kopitar shield is a much better card. You got about half of what you should have received.

Agreed, the Kane will be a $100 card at best, Toews maybe $100 - $125, Price $100 - $150 if lucky, and Backstrom probably $50. The Crosby will be $50 +/- of it's current price. I honestly think they took you to the cleaners on this, if it was me there is no way I would take those as a replacement for the 1/1 Shield.

What bothers me more is people are popping up who sent in damaged cards that they pulled (Toews & Price) and UD is telling them they don't have any replacements available. If that's the case, why are they sending them out as "Sorry" cards? :rtfm:
 
What a terrible trade off. Personally, I would make sure to complain to UD. They gave you equal BV but in terms of resale value the Kopitar could have been priceless.
 
This replacement is another reason why I made my banner.

Cash value wise you may have gotten your moneys worth but as collectors (which is what we all are) How do 5, relatively common cards, replace something that is one of a kind. Thats like trading in your child for 5 cute kids, well maybe not that extreme but you know what I mean. Something as Rare as a 1 of a kind Sheild Card, which are arguably one of the better kind of cards created up until now, should be replaced by something equally as rare. And if UD is really telliung people they dont have replacements for damaged cards and then sending them out to other people as replacements is inexcusable, could they be sued for somthing like that?
 
I'm wouldn't take anything less then another auto/shield in return for the kopitar. You can't compare something like an auto/shield 1/1 to what they gave you, two thumbs way down in my books.
 
That's a headscratcher... I'd much rather have the Shield, and I'm with everyone else that thinks the value isn't equivalent. That said, good luck with the auction and I hope you do well.

Unless UD were to make a custom Shield card for you personally, I see no way how they could send a different #1/1 Shield card as a replacement. Unless they had one lying around that was originally a redemption and was never redeemed and the time had elapsed. Having said all that I think you did decent. They maybe could have sent you one or two more $100-$200 cards assuming the $1000 value of the shield is accurate, but all in all you did better than most when dealing with an issue like this. BTW, kudos to you for putting the cards at auction and donating part of the $$$. Very cool. Mike
 
I agree. Very nice gesture. You did alright on a cash value equivalent but it is hard to stomach an amazing one of a kind card for 4+ very decent ones no matter what they are. And yes, getting a 1 for 1 on this would be next to impossible.

1 card and UD can not produce this card :mad:

I say, sell these card on ebay an make you a nice day ;)

But you were definitely much more deserving of one than I was for what you had replaced. Has to be tough on UD to replace something like that. Not like they have spare shields just lying around.

I'm surprised they didn't just slap another shield on from someone else's jersey!! Not like you can trust any jersey they put out anyway..:)

It's a photoshoot jersey, and he plays in LA to boot. Sorry, but on a card like that if I'm an UD higher up, I'm doing everything I can to get the card made. If that means taking an authentic jersey, driving to the practice facility, handing Kopi the jersey and asking him to put in on for a picture, well, that's what I'd do. But that's just me, I wouldn't want something like this to happen and have more mud flying my way if I'm UD.

I am waiting for the day the card surfaces, I have a feeling it is in someones hands as we speak, no matter what they say.
