Kovalchuk to come back???

Wonder what this will mean for his card prices.... I cant afford them now anyway lol
Interesting article. It's totally unknown if he will come back for sure, but my guess is the Devil's might do a sign and trade deal, given his history with the franchise. At 34 I am sure he can still contribute, but I doubt he's able to put up the same numbers prior to his retirement. Card-wise, his YG is priced pretty cheap. Not sure about his other stuff though. Interesting story. Should be interesting to see how it pans out. I'd welcome him back to the NHL.

An NHL return worked out pretty well for Radulov, surely Kovalchuk would do okay coming back although he's not getting any younger.

I would love to see kovalchuk come back and give anyone who spent money on his jersey a refund on the year he took off to the khl................ Jerseys aren't cheap and people spend their hard earned money on them

Unfortunately that's life buddy. If that's the case we need to all hit up every sports team who has traded "our guy" to another or players that walked in free agency. It happens.

Go with the blank jersey option. It's about the symbol on the front, not the name on the back. :)

There are a couple of things that make this very interesting to me from a Devils standpoint:

1) They have all the leverage, any comeback has to go through them.
2) The upcoming expansion draft could be opening up contract space to for teams that a desperately trying to unload someone
3) NJ also has a ton of a cap space to take back one of those bad contracts to get an even better asset
4) What sort of contract does he sign, if the new team gets him on the cheap it could be a bigger return for the devils
5) Does he just go back to the Devils and how does that work out for them.

After Jersey lost their 1st rounder (should've been around the 10mark that year) then where granted the last spot in the draft (Took John Quenneville) it will be nice to get an asset back.

1. Kovalchuk remains property of NJD as he is on the Voluntary Retirement List (VRL) so he is free to sign with them for coming season.

2. If Kovalchuk doesn't want to return to NJ, he could sign with ANY team as long as EVERY other team in NHL signs off on it. Not a chance.

3a. Because Kovalchuk is on VRL, NJ can't trade his rights to any team unless Kovalchuk signs with NJ first. So sign and trade possible.

3b. Note: Only way Kovalchuk can come off VRL is by signing with NJ. Player on VRL can't have rights traded. Thus, sign and trade is req'd.

Sign & Trade makes the most sense..... or he signs 1 more year in the KHL, and then comes back as a UFA.

I can't believe I'm going to say this... and feel kind of dirty for doing it... but I wouldn't be shocked to see: Leafs.

I have a itg patch card of his that I would be surprised if it went for 20.00 and it is #'d to 4. Perhaps I should wait it out.....of course since he is probably not going to be with NJ it probably still won't go that high

114 points in 114 games in his last two seasons with New Jersey, 222 points in 209 games in the K, with his best season this past year by far... could be he was playing motivated for a 'contract' back in the NHL.

He'll contribute when he comes back - just a matter of having appropriate expectations.
