Rumour has it that the Wang man on Rhode Island is going to make an offer to Kovalchuk........right or wrong??

WIERD..............

TSN is reporting the offer is reported to be $10M per over 10 years...
Didn't Wang learn his lesson from the DiPietro signing?

Kovy needs to decide...does he want to win a cup or make lots of money.

Yeah but if you had the kind of money Dr. Wang does you can make another bad decision and consider it all part of the business. Yes the Alexei Yashin and Rick Diepietro contracts were awe-full, but that's business.

It will bve interesting too see how this plays out.

If I was Kovalchuk, I'd the money, who doesn't like money? And who knows, the New York Islanders are getting better, they just need a new #1 guy between the Pipes because Diepietro breaks like glass.

The Islanders need scoring. They have about 24 million in cap space. I believe it's currently the most of all the NHL teams. I guess when you have as much money as Wang does and are already loosing 6-7 million a year on DiPietro and Yashin it doesn't really matter. Kovalchuk should draw in more fans if he continues to score goals consistantly. He should be able to help with the development of the younger players and take over the leadership once Weight retires. I like the idea of him signing for five years, not more.

If any team is dumb enough to offer Kovy 10 million over a long term deal, this is it.

Put him on the top line with Okposo and Tavarez? I cant say that would be a bad combo.

I am not against the long term deals, I am against bad long term deals, and this would be one of them. But seeing as how it is a Rangers rival making the deal (allegedly), I am all for it ;)

I have no problem with Billionaire's spending money, but in this case, and in similar fashion to the DiPietro and Yashin contracts, it actually causes detriment to other teams in the league by blowing player values completely out of proportion.

I am a huge fan of Kovy and would love to have him in E-town, but not at the cost of $10M long term.

And I'm sorry but spending $100M on one player for a decade (not including bonuses) is not a proper way to manage a hockey club, with slight exception to Ovy and Crosby as they literally print money for their respective teams.

But hey, if they sign him to that and it somehow makes them a cup contender, then so be it. If anything, his patch cards will look awesome!

That contract is almost as big as your sig..........

lol, In all seriousness though I pray the kings can ink IK because they need the offense badly. And who knows maybe if the kings do sign IK then maybe Frolov signs cheaper to stay. You never know.

Kovlachuk and Frolov both to NYI - mark it down. they'll both play on a line with Tavares - Kovalchuk will take the money and score 50+ goals a year and never win a playoff series.

L.A. could bring Modin back - he was a nice fit on the third line.

I marked it down haha. I would rather them play in La but I would also like to see the Islanders win games again.

Saying that Kovy will never win a playoff series is a bit...off. the Isles have a lot of young talent...they will be good again, and sooner than people think. Which doesn't bode well for my team...

not sure how any team can do too much when they are paying DiPietro and Yashin $7M+ to play golf.

I don't understand what is going through Kovy's head wanting $12M. He still won't be anywhere near as good as the guys that make $8-9M.

Even worse, those willing to pay that kind of money. I'd say $8M tops would be reasonable. ****ing ridiculous.

Now..I may be a bit biased here, but why does everyone on here rip Kovy for only scoring goals? I don't get it. You can't tell me, that if your favorite team was in a position to sign some player of his calibur, you wouldn't be happy?? or excited? Prepared for my bashing......

Why would the Kings do this to their roster? Get rid of Kopitar, Brown, Quick, and Johnson for Gagne--washed up--and Carter--may never reach his full potential.

All because the want to sign Kovy? Not a playoff team in my opinion.

I'd be happy if I were a Flyers fan if it happened. Only thing wrong with it Kings wise would be the Gagne thing (he is washed up) and the amount they would pay Kovy. It's too much for one player in the cap world.

No bashing needed.

I don't think the problem is with scoring goals, but because he isn't a team player. Hell, I love the Ruskies but I've always felt Kovy always has had the "greater than life" feel to him. Is he talented? Absolutely. One of the best in the game? Absolutely. BUT, every time he has the puck I mostly just await to see which way he'll manage to give away the puck to the opposite team instead of making a logical play to a teammate. He needs to get his head out of his *** and take a reasonable number for a player of his caliber and prove himself as a team player before anything.

Victor out
