I hope no one offers him anywhere near $10 million. He's playing a stupid game right now and using the media as his puppet. I can't stand it when primadonnas do this. I hope he ends up in the KHL. It's where he belongs

Yup. A lot of players have held out over the years but I can seldom recall a time when a player (or presumably his agent) played so many games with the media and the teams around the league... not to mention the fans of all of these teams he has apparently been on the verge of signing with! :badmood:

I love Kovalchuk as a player, but would love to know what is going on inside his head.

He better watch who he's playing games with though, Lou doesn't mess around and DL is not going to cave to his demands, he may find himself making less then he was offered if he keeps playing the 2 sides against each other.

Good point...and rumour is he's already left money on the table as Atl tried to resign him before they traded him and it was for more dough than he's being offered now.

ATL offered 12 years and $101 millon (8.5 million/year). Let's see what he ends up with elsewhere.

he's not getting that in L.A. and unlikely to get that in NJ. NJ would have to move 2-3 contracts for nothing to make that work. DL knows better than to pay that much.

unless he's willing to take a cap hit of $6.5-$7 he'll be playing in the KHL.

I don't think Kovy is a good fit in NJ. Parise and Kovy will not like playing together. Both are superstars and will want the spotlight. I think they were both whining towards the end of last year.......Parise is the MUCH better 2 way player.......I'd want to keep him happy rather than an excellent offensive player with no Defensive capability whatsoever.

?!?! The guy led the league in ice time per game after the trade, was a point per game and a +/- 9 with the Devils in 27 games helping them finish first in the Atlantic... hard to say the guy was a bad fit.

He seemed like one of maybe 4 players who cared about the outcome of the Playoff "series" with Philly, too... I would love to see him re-signed, but at this point I'm jaded by the whole ordeal and strongly believe he'll go to Russia.

Darren Millard from Sportsnet tweeted that he will sign with LA tomorrow. The announcement being held off on account of the World Cup. Looks like walking away twice was enough for Kovy to blink finally. Even though Larry Brooks had "reported" that the Devils had a 17 yr contract on the table that would've given him his $100 million over 10 yrs that he was looking for - but probably wouldn't have made it through approval since it's more than likely he wouldn't be playing until he's 43

im not going to get excited until its finally completed, but i want kovy in LA and definetely hoping it happens.

You can have him, its quite obvious he is out for #1....he should stunt the Kings growth for a few years now. Enjoy! If the guy was serious about going out a winner he would'nt pull this contract game......

I guess in the end Kovalchuk will go where he was hoping to go, so good for him.

As for the Devils, they'll remain mediocre with the likes of Langenbrunner and Rolston running the show and losing interest a third of the way through the season again.

Love the Devils, but have zero faith in their captain, and that's a tough feeling to have as a fan.

I hear yea Tim. Kovy is exactly what we missed last year. A natural 40 plus goal scorer. Huge upgrade from frolov. I still would not mind if they could sign Frolov cheap and get the two russians playing together.

DL won't budge from what he can pay Kovalchuk - hopefully IK is realizing what his true market value is and be happy with a $6.5M cap hit. if not, he'll be playing somewhere else because i don't see DL budging.

Don't worry, Zach will be captain by this time next year.

the good news for the Devils is if Kovalchuk goes to the Kings that means NJ will more than likely be able to re-sign Parise and he will be your franchise player for the majority/rest of his career.

Parise is as much a part of the 3 straight flops as anyone else on the team - he deserves a big contract but the team is in dire need of new motivation and some "pizzaz". A player who wears his heart on his sleeve like Kovalchuk would have fit the bill, but it looks like that is not to be...

If (when) he signs in LA, I hope Lou still cleans out the cupboard and brings in some players who are going to be passionate about winning and if not winning it all, getting out of the first round.

When Kovy officially signs, at least Devils fans can rejoice in the long-term signing of Mike Motteau that will surely be announced immediately.

I don't think Mottau comes back. With the signings of Tallinder and Volchenkov and prospects like Corrente, Eckford and Urbom there is no need to keep Mottau around.
