As many of you fellow collectors may very well have experienced, I was shorted a very good card from UD on a failed redemption. I was sent a bunch of cards that were, to me useless. I tried to sell them on E-bay gaining only about ¼ of what my redemption card was booked at , say the least I was upset!

After a few months of e-mails I finally got to the point where I was going to give up on UD and collecting cards in general. I spent a huge amount of money on UD cards and I felt I was getting screwed….then…I got a phone call from UD and they “wanted to make things right”

After a few more e-mails they established that they could not get me the product I originally purchased but they wanted to do right by me.

So today I open my mailbox and I got a triple auto O-Pee-Chee Premier 08-09 Trios Hard auto Gretzky,Orr,Howe card…….on top of the original cards sent for the failed redemption. With the card came a full-page letter thanking me for my business.

As much as we rag on them…this proves they are trying to come back in customer service!!!

I give them huge KUDOS!!!

Wow that's great to hear. Good for you putting in the extra effort to get your voice heard, but an extra big hand to UD for making an effort to set things strait

Congrats

All cheers go to UD...Ben, Barry, ect...they have restored my faith.

Incredible replacement!!!! congrats :)

If you don't mind me asking, what was the redemption for?

@ the risk of burning future bridges (just built for us collectors) I won't get specific but it was a Cup card (all I collect). I just don't want this post to be placed on every failed redemption. I had a very nice card comming to me and they really came through. I hope you understand. :)

I understand completely.

I'd love to see a scan of the triple auto. :)

my printer just craped out..i took a pix and up loading it now. it is up for trade as i have said, I only collect cup and at the moment looking for signature patches, so she is on the block.

No offence, but I don't see why you wouldn't want to tell us. If they're trying to make things better for everyone, then shouldn't everyone expect something similiar? Aside from that, great looking card!

Nice replacement for you, but I think people want to see if they can do this consistently. If them doing something for one person restores everybody's faith in them, I'd suggest that you weren't really that upset to begin with.

Good on UD for trying to make things right, but I am left to wonder why a card like the one you received, wasn't packed out? I am sure some collectors may have bought the product in hopes that they would pull that card.
If they didnt pack it out because it was a redemption, does that mean that someone else will prolly not get that redemption and they would have to go through the same process with them as they did with you?

I had my lawyer ready to act on this, so needless to say I was very upset. At the time I had a VERY lage and exclusive Iginla cup collection, I had a redemption card that was not honored and they sent me a pile of crap (not even cup product) in it's place. A few weeks after being told the card was not made avaible to UD I saw it on E-bay. It was a /5 Iginla quad auto and I already owned 3 of them.

Now that you know, I trust that it will not be used for leverage but more as a measuring stick for the level of service for future issues.

I don't collect or know anything about OPC, is the trios/35 a redemption?

Exactly what I was thinking and why UD does not clearly state odds on their packages anymore. This definitely proves that they are not packaging out some very high end cards. Between lining their high end buyers pockets and holding back these high end replacements, one has to wonder exactly what chance the average collector has at pulling a high end card? :| Sorry for the :offtopic:, but feel free to check my bucket to see if anything interests you.

You had a redemption card and they said it couldn't be redeemed, even though you already had 3 of them so they were clearly made, then another one showed up on ebay?

God it's no wonder people feel like crapping on UD most of the time. I don't understand how one of the 5 all of a sudden can't be redeemed unless UD gave it to someone else as a replacement for something. And if that's the case, UD is going down a road that is clearly not a good idea for collectors and the future of their business.

I'm not one to usually complain about UD and their practices, I can look at most issuses from both sides objectively but this type of situation is something that is only going to cause problems for UD.

There are several reasons UD has replacement cards. Most of the higher-end cards actually come from the QC breaks they do. UD sends all of their cards to a third party for packaging, as they no longer do that down in Oceanside. So when they get their cases of product back, they bust a few cases to check to collation. Any big hits from those cases go to the redemption group for replacement. They don't have stacks and stacks of high-end cards laying around they did not pack out. Otherwise we'd see these high-end replacements flying around all over the place. It's actually pretty rare to see a card of this caliber available for a replacement, and it sounds like it went to deserving issue.

As for why the one out of the five Iginla cards didn't make it, one can only speculate. It could have arrived back from Iginla in bad enough condition they decided not to pack it out. Or one of the others could have been sent in for replacement. Who knows. But I've been "stuck" in the high-end replacement situation myself, having to wait for a couple of months to get a quality high-end replacement card. If they made a practice of just shorting pack-outs to stock replacement cards, it wouldn't take months to get a suitable replacement.

THANK-YOU VERY MUCH!!
I posted this to publicly thank UD and give them props for once....when those questions started to come up I had no responce as I am not sure how I got such a good card and how UD opperates.
Thanks for clearing the air...I feel better now...:)

I agree. It was an unfortunate coincidence when UD had stacks of Ovechkin and Crosby Black Diamond rookies cards to give out as replacements. What were the odds of those rc's being so heavily loaded in the QC breaks, I mean really, who knew?

Sarcasm aside, I'm am honestly pleased to see that the OP was taken care of. Redemptions will always create special circumstances, but at least in this one instance, one collector was treated as a customer should expect.
