Greetings everyone, and I hope you are all having a great Easter weekend (whether you celebrate it or not). Not a ton of incoming stuff since I landed my most coveted card in late January, but enough that I figured I may as well do a roundup before we flip the script to April.

92/93 Pinnacle #292 Larry Murphy Autograph by primetimepawich, on Flickr

A small Ebay pickup from our own harris_sports_cards. Signed base I need is pretty slow to come by these days so it's always nice when I can find one for a few bucks.

2017 Leaf In The Game Superlative Stick Club #SC10 Larry Murphy 11/25 by primetimepawich, on Flickr

My second (and probably last) "upgrade" of this particular card.

2017 In The Game Superlative Super Teams Printing Plates Cyan #ST04 Sergei Fedorov/Steve Yzerman/Nicklas Lidstrom/Igor Larionov/Chris Osgood/Larry Murphy 1/1 by primetimepawich, on Flickr

I wanted one of these cards when I initially read about them but was less enthused when I saw that a card celebrating Murphy on a Red Wings "Super Team" used Maple Leafs GU. This plate bypasses that issue and seemed like a reasonable compromise.

2017 In The Game Superlative Signatures Blue #SSLM1 Larry Murphy 5/15 by primetimepawich, on Flickr

A cheap (at least until shipping is taken into account) LA jersey-numbered "upgrade" of this particular auto.

2017 In The Game Used Quad Game Used Patch Magenta #GUP408 Kevin Lowe/Dave Babych/Larry Murphy/Randy Carlyle 2/3 by primetimepawich, on Flickr

Design-wise, the card has its problems (no headshots, mismatched teams/GU), but the GU itself is top-quality. I'm a sucker for easily identifiable patches from the maple leaf in this product and was excited to win it last night.

2017 Lumber Kings Game-Used Lumber Red #GUL22 Larry Murphy 2/3 by primetimepawich, on Flickr

I love the easily identifiable KOHO stick pieces in this product and had been trying for the whole rainbow. When this came along as an "upgrade" to my previous copy, I couldn't help myself and flipped my previous copy on Ebay.

That left me needing just 1 parallel - the platinum /4. And as of early March, mission accomplished:

Here's the whole family for your viewing pleasure:

A big thank you to bamlinden Brett for thinking of me, securing this at a recent trade night and sending it my way:

Despite living in the same city, I have yet to actually meet Brett and need to change that.

Being several years removed from the release of ITG Motown Madness, you don't hear much about that product anymore, and as I'm working on the Murphy nameplate from it, I really try to keep my ear to the ground anytime someone mentions it. So when redwingfn7 Kelin mentioned going through some cases of it, I randomly asked if he came across any of the Murphys, expecting the answer to be no. Then he PMed me saying he did indeed get one, but being a Wings fan, he wasn't sure he wanted to move it, at least right now. Well, a change of heart later, we came to an agreement and I will have this incoming:

Thanks Kelin. I appreciate you working with me on this and assure you this is its proper home. And let this serve as a PSA that if any of you out there have one of these or know where one exists, I want to hear from you. Help me fill in the blanks:

I wish I could end on that note, but I cannot.

Those of you closest to me on here know my latest coveted card was the recent Murphy Ultimate One-Timer Jumbo Patch. When henjay Jayden PMed me on here saying it had been pulled by an acquaintance of his at a Red Deer trade night, he graciously offered to act as a mediator and help me try to land it before Ebay. I was very appreciative of his efforts and eager to work out a deal. However, when the owner refused to attach a reasonable price to it, to Ebay it went.

Many of you know that. Some of you were casually watching it to see how much I would get it for, and some of you probably even stepped aside just to help me out. I'm thankful for Jayden's help, and I'm thankful for everyone else who was cheering me on. But here's the problem - I let you down. It was all for nothing this time, because...I didn't win.

I tried to win the straight-up way with a standard bid, but retracted it when some shady early bidding exposed my bid and tried to make a fool of me. When the bids in question were later retracted as well, I thought it was fair game and planned to shift gears with a snipe or last minute bid to avoid a repeat of such shenanigans. Only problem? When I went to drop that last minute bid, I was hit with the horrifying message in red that I had been blocked. I had no time to react. I lost out, the seller lost out, and someone else randomly got it for a song.

So yeah, this is still out there:

If you won it or know who did, I very much want to hear from you. And if given a FAIR chance, I assure you I will not fumble this again.

Happy collecting, all. Thanks for the look, and comments are always welcome.

Joe

Very nice work on that madness nameplate
Don't worry, things work out in this hobby and if it's meant to that 1of1 will.come your way

I was watching the nameplate and saw the price jump to a high price. I felt bad for you as I knew it was being shilled automatically. Sorry you missed out, hopefully it pops up again! On the other hand, your others are awesome!

Very cool LumberKings sticks . Why were you blocked on the Ultimate One-Timer-Patch ? Because you retracted a bid earlier ? And if so , is that standard procedure to be blocked ?

Thank you, I hope so too. Even just knowing who won it would be nice for now.

Thanks Brian. Definitely questionable bidding behavior, and I wasn't going to stand for it. Never even considered that it would put "me" on the radar to be blocked though. I know there are many here who would've been happy to help me if I'd needed it and asked. I just didn't know there was an issue until it was too late. This card seems to have had bad luck attached to it right from the start where I'm concerned, and I hope that trend reverses.

Thanks Thorsten. And I really don't know. I assume it was because of the retraction, but I don't know if the seller did it or Ebay did it. I never asked the seller because I believe they were part of the problem.

Great Murphy pickups! And darn, sorry to hear about the One-Timer 1/1, that's a real shame that happened. I'm sure it'll make its way to your collection somewhere down the line. Chin up as always!

Great Murphy pickups as always Joe! You always make it hard for me to pick a favourite. I like that Superlative Blue auto and the printing plate, but so many great pieces.

Another round of nice Murphy additions! And once again, sorry to hear of how that all went down. Really wish I could've helped you land that One Timer. Hopefully it homes back around

Thanks Aaron. It's impossible to not be disappointed in the moment, and even still now. But I've tried to preach that same positivity to others when they've suffered hobby misfortunes. I tend to agree that most cards come around again and really hope I get a chance to make this right. I just won't be very happy if I don't.

Thanks Collin. It's always great how different pieces appeal to different people, and I appreciate you drawing attention to the lesser ones.

Again, not your fault they weren't reasonable, Jayden. You did what you could and I appreciate you looking out for me and trying to help out.

nice stuff Joe really like the Simpsons ref

Thanks Nick. Big classic Simpsons fan here so I'm happy to sneak in a reference where and when possible :)

Great pick ups - the Stick Work cards are beauties...... and yeah, the blocked bid on the Megapatch SUCKS.

I still just find the whole thing odd. I can see someone blocking bidders due to a retraction. I can see someone using a shill to get a higher price. Not that I agree either is a good idea, but I can understand it.

I don't understand why you shill your own auction, and then remove a bidder that you know will probably bid high (eventually) for a retraction..... and while I obviously don't know any of that for a fact, that's what it looks like happened to me.

That is too bad about the one timer but the rest of the show is amazing.

I agree the Simpsons reference really embiggened this thread.

I understand your frustration!! This is happening all too much on a particular popular auction/BIN site. I wasn’t banned from bidding... but lost the auction at a low price... 3 days later same card same seller lists it again for sale. I lost another auction, it was at $99.00 the other bidder bid very high ($235US.. I figured $300cdn was easily enough) with 30 secs in the auction... I thought ok well, he wanted it more than I did.. the bidder hadn’t bid on anything in 90 days... then 2 bids with the same seller that day... and he had 27 for a feedback score ..seems fishy... so hoping that one comes back up! So for you my fingers are crossed, that it was an “inside” purchase and the piece will be re-offered at a later date.. if I see it or hear tell of it, I will pass on the info! Cheers! Paul

Karma will come back around, and you'll end up with that card you want. What a shady situation, sorry you have to deal with that.

Plus side - sick batch of pickups. Good to see you are still rolling even though cutting back a bit.

Thanks Sean. You had a front row seat for my griping and I still don't know what to make of it either. I should've smelled a rat earlier and brought in assistance right off the bat, but instead I stuck with my conviction that all would work out right in the end. Obviously it did not.

Thanks Scott; I do what I can :)

Thanks Paul. How did you lose the first auction at the low price?

Thanks Derrick. I know you can relate due to your own different yet similarly frustrating story with that COMC plate. It's hard to stay positive when something like this happens, but I believe in karma. I have not been a generous member of this community in the way you and others have, and I know I'm not entitled to the card. I just want a fair chance to purchase it.

And I appreciate the comments. I certainly have cut back and as last year have sold more PC cards than I've added, but I'm still making exceptions and adding where possible. This has taken heroic restraint in many cases, but I would love to make the One-Timer one of those exceptions.

Great stuff as always Joe. However, I'm a little disturbed by the lack of Capitals paraphernalia in this particular mail thread.

Also, you beat me to the Homer Smarch joke. You are just ruining my fun all around!
