Well, with the dog days of summer having come and gone, I figured I'd take a few moments to catch anyone interested up to speed on my Larry Murphy summer pickups. Don't bother pulling up a chair - it was a slow summer PC-wise, with only a handful of pickups to note. But I'll show what I got so I can start anew with the changing of the seasons...
First, a story. When last we met, I talked about my botched attempt to land an 06-07 International Ice Gold /10 from HI's djsports Shawn. Well, even though I probably didn't deserve it, the Hockey Card Gods smiled on me and turned up another copy a short while later from my Ebay ITG pimp north-of-7. I even won it for less money. Still, lesson learned, and even though this story had a happy ending, I will try not to tempt fate with a tough /10 parallel again.

97/98 Pacific Omega Press/Printing Plate Front Larry Murphy 1/1 (2)
After winning the back of this plate on Ebay a few months ago, this companion front plate showed up from the same seller not long after and I paired it up for a fraction of the price. No matter what your thoughts on these backdoored plates are, when I can get something like this for under $20 (or under $5 in this case), I'd do it every day of the week.

Unique autographed Murphy cards are a big niche part of my collection. Signed Leafs cards, especially ones I don't already have, are not easy to come by as they represent such a small portion of his career. A search turned this up in a lot of other signed Leafs cards, so against my better taste and judgement, I bought the whole lot to get it. For those who may be interested, the other 33 signed cards in that lot that I have available are of:

I already have a copy of this card, but of Murphy's 4 multiplayer GU cards in this product, this trio jersey was the only one I hadn't seen a multicolor Murphy copy of. Most copies I'd seen only had one solid color per player, so I didn't know if a multicolor Murphy even existed...until now. Where possible, I always try to "upgrade" for the right price, so I had to get this one.
And the grand finale...
For the last while, the oldest 3 cards on my wantlist have been obscure team issues. The second one, I could always get here http://www.historyforsale.com/html/prodetails.asp?documentid=316426&start=1 if I had a spare $400+ burning a hole in my pocket. The third was a 92/93 Penguins Coke Clark team issue. How hard are these to find? I don't know. I know that a website that specializes in Pittsburgh-based sports team issues and collectibles (which filled a couple holes in my PC) has only a handful of the cards available, none of which are the Murphy. So other Pens collectors can feel free to support or dispute this claim, but I'm going to say they're probably not easy to come by.
Well, almost 2 years ago, a Google image search for Murphy autographs turned up a copy - signed, no less - on a website showcasing star autographs. My intrepid research led me to the website of the owner, an autograph collector out of Ontario. He'd got it from Murphy TTM years ago, and was it available? No.
Me being me, I knew where it belonged and could only let that stand for so long. Once in a blue moon, I would resurface and inquire about it again. With the slow summer, it brought me back to the items on my wantlist that I know are out there and where they reside. On a whim, I contacted the guy again and expected the same answer. Don't know if I just caught him at a good time or if he just finally felt sympathy at my desire for it, but this time his answer was different and he was willing to move on it. So in exchange for three 10-packs of permanent Canadian stamps, this is now in my possession:
