Leaf Signs Nolan Patrick to Exclusive

I knew it I've been saying it all along

So what has Ud done now for leaf to do an exclusive with this guy? Didn't leaf say they hate exclusives
Also he already has existing leaf cards so does that mean his rc is already out?

Leaf will try to convince you that the cards are licensed by Mr. Eichel or Mr. Patrick themselves...so because of that...they must be rookies! BAHAHAHAHA

Seriously though, I'm sure it'll be just a matter of time before UD exerts some pressure on the NHLPA to prevent this from happening more often.

(And yes, I know 17-year old junior players aren't members of the NHLPA, but their agents probably represent players who currently are... just sayin'.)
 
Greetings guys.... a few thoughts....

#1- I asked UD numerous times over the last 12 months to agree to a cease fire and an agreement that there would be no exclusives in hockey anymore... THIS is good for collectors...

#2- Upper Deck would not even give the courtesy of a formal reply to our olive branch.

#3- When signing Connor McDavid, UD locked him down 18 months before he was drafted. Short of some discussion with them, we were forced to act now if we wish to remain competitive.

#4- I remain committed to my promise to the hobby, I am willing TODAY to abandon all exclusives if UD will come to the table in good faith and do what is best for this industry. I merely ask that we be afforded the same ability to compete as other companies in the category.

As i have said all along, sometimes you have to break a bone so it heals stronger. I hate to be the one breaking the bone, but long term you will thank be for changing the marketplace. Trust me... Let time be the judge of that... Brian
 
In addition, as a collector, I am appalled that the NHL and NHLPA give an exclusive in the category to the severe detriment of collectors. The energy spent on this topic would be far better directed at that travesty, in my opinion only.

Damn and I was going to pickup some of his rookie autos... I'll be passing now, no need to pickup cards that look like they were airbrushed in middle school computer class. Very disappointed.. If you think this is "good for collectors" you're absolutely dilusional. I guess I'll just stick to his Wheat King cards.
 
When boxes of 18 SPA sit on the shelves because no one is buying it I would love to hear someone say that this is good for the hobby. Maybe if Leaf makes a set where you can get a big name auto in a $5 pack of cards I'll change my tune slightly

#1 "THIS is good for collectors". How? Who really wants an unlicensed autograph card of the #1 overall pick? Given the choice, 99% of collectors would MUCH prefer a licensed card.

#2 and 4 Why would Upper Deck want to give you the same ability to compete? Last time I checked Upper Deck was the company who won the ability to issue licensed cards. They are the ones who had to pay a fee (which I'm guessing is quite a bit of money) to the NHLPA in order to do so.

they are licensed, they do not have to give any reply to a company that is not licensed.

#1- our efforts to reach out to UD to end all exclusives IS GOOD for the industry. (I think you misread what I typed)

#2 and #4- and therefore, why should I not be able to do what it takes to compete? Either its everyman for themselves or we work together to do what is best for collectors.

Both companies say they do what they do for the betterment of the Hobby.

UD claims a single source for licensed material is best for the hobby. Would they say the same if they did not have the exclusive league/player license?

Leaf says they hate exclusive autographs and only do them because UD refused a "no exclusives pact". Since no agreement appears to have been made, all is fair in love, war and hockey cards. Leaf is just playing a few moves down the road, trying to beat UD to the punch.

It's unfair to dislike the argument from 1 side but be OK with the other. Exclusive autographs suck just as much as an exclusive license.

Game recognizes game.

I agree completely.... and it sucks....
Someone has to challenge the norm to change the norm.
