I hope this means Leafs management is going to give Aubin and Tellqvist a shot next season. And also that this is the final nail in Belfour's coffin as far as his Leafs career goes. Hopefully, the Leafs are moving in more of a rebuilding direction next year. Aubin has definitely played well enough during his audition to have earned this contract.

The Toronto Maple laughs show their stupidity AGAIN!! Hey he won like 8 games....jeeez lets sign him right now!!

Aubin is a great backup. Telqvist wasn't even good in the AHL...when will they pay attention to the small details. A player can't be great just because they want him to be. Stanley cup winning teams need GREAT goaltending. If they think that a goalie who failed else where and a small goalie who wasn't good even in the AHL will carry them next year they are in for a short season.

Telqvist had more then enough chances to shine. Let him go else where (like the baby leafs marlies). If another team (no team would) wants him then let him go.

I have watched Telqvist play 3 seasons in the AHL.....he $uck$!!!

Your really confusing me...

This doesn't mean Aubin is the starter. He could very well be the backup next season.

Their riding the hot hand much like Montreal has with Huet this season

They signed him to a One Way Contract! Just as an FYI!

So whats the hard part to understand? He could very well be the backup.

They may not re-sign Tellqvist this season then

Go out and sign an actual starter and let Aubin be his backup. Send Telqvist back to the minors.

Maybe Kelly Hrudey is available or Grant Fuhr....wouldn't surprise me with this GM.

The offseason hasn't even started! They very well could be going out and signing a starter with Aubin as their backup (how many starters are actually available? Very few).

Also, with Pogge and Rask another year or 2 away you don't want to go out and acquire a goalie for the next 5+ years.

It wouldnt surprise me to see a Joseph/Aubin tandem for next season while Pogge starts in the AHL for 1 year

I agree......I hope we are wrong.

Aubin has looked awesome the past few weeks, I jsut don't have faith in him. I would love to see them sign a big goalie but i don't see it happening.

I hope they give Rask and Pogge time to develop, neither are ready yet.

I don't have faith in Aubin either... but really we are at the crossroads right now. We have 2 options:

A) Do we go out and sign a goalie like Gerber or Biron to long term contracts (obviously they are going to want long term deals)? We essentially kill Pogge and Rask in the minors for like 4 years!!!

Do you really want that?

B) Or do we sign a stop gap goalie for a season (Aubin/Joseph) until Pogge or Rask can start?

Obviously JFJ is going with option B. And to tell you the truth... HE'S RIGHT FOR ONCE!

I agree with some of you :) I think it was a great move. I think Aubin could be the next Huet or Gerber and if not the leafs are rebuilding anyways. They will not be cup contenders next year, might as well take a chance and rebuild.

It's not like they signed Aubin to a 5 year deal worth 30 million. I think it's a pretty good signing - Though I'm interested to see if they ultimately keep Tellqvist or if they try to move him and bring in a veteran on a 1 or 2 year deal (CuJo's name will pop up here until he signs somewhere)

It's not like they did this

this is a one year deal for half a million bucks,
it's a pretty good signing,
at worst, you send em down and you're paying your minor league half a mil, not like he's making 3 or something.

Good signing imo.
