I've been a Leafs fan now for years. I thought it was a GREAT move for Toronto to bring in Toskala. Give the Leafs 2 goalies going with Raycroft and Toskala for next season.
Toskala - 38 games 26 W 10 L 4 SO
Raycroft - 72 games 37 W 25 L 2 SO
You'd think that with these 2 goalies going into next season and having JS Aubin and Tellqvist in the minors would do them good.
Now they sign a goalie who has played 6 games last year. Went 1 W 1 L and 2 OT
Gotta wonder what Fergie was thinking when he got Scott Clemmensen? Why wouldn't they go after a better forward. They already have PLENTY of youth. What about a nice vet Forward?
Leafs seem to be asleep once again at the wheel of STAR Player Free Agents (besides Toskala)

How long have you been a Leafs fan? They traded Tellqvist to Phoenix last year. ;)

Don't forget that Justin Pogge has to get some playing time too. That's what makes that signing bizarre.

holy cow, I hate when people try to comment on something they know little about. How can you say JFJ is asleep at the wheel when you don't really know that:

a) Aubin is a free agent and won't be returning to the Leafs
b) Tellqvist was traded to PHX.

So as it stands the Leafs have:

Toskala and Raycroft on the big club.

Pogge and Clemmensson with the Marlies.

Pogge needs a vet to help him along with the Marlies. How hard is that to figure out? We have 4 goalies, 2 teams... simple to me.

right sorry forgot about Tellqvist being traded to Phoenix.
You'd think that they'd want to leave the door open for Pogge.

So was Pogge supposed to play 82 games with the Marlies?

Clemmensson is likely there to help Pogge along, mentor him a little, take some pressure off. Clemmensson signed a ONE YEAR deal so its not as if he shut the door on Pogge.

Pogge will be the Marlies starter this year. Maybe next year he gets called up but not now.

Good point. I don't read into hockey rumor sites or anything so I was just a bit puzzled when the Leafs signed Blake. Did they even go after guys like Scott Gomez. Chris Drury, Ryan Smyth or Paul Kariya? Was really hoping they could have got Gomez personally.

The Leafs couldn't fit any of those guys under the cap. They all now make $6M+, the Leafs had about $6M total to play with.... they got Blake, and re-signed Battaglia and have $1.5M under the cap in case of injuries or mid season trades.

There was no way they could have got those guys unless they shed a lot of salary. I'm comfortable with Blake at $4M.... just not the 5 years but I guess we could always waive him and get his money off the cap.

You won't want to waive him! He's going to be the most exciting leaf since gilmour.

Why wouldn't they start Clemmensson & ship Raycroft down to the Marlies? We won't really know until after training camp is over as to who makes the cut but Ern your probably correct in what you said but time will tell :)
