The other thread got me thinking: Who is the best going right now?

I'll admit I'm a bit biased in my pick, but Rick Jeannerett is the best in the biz right now. Passionate, knowledgable and some great lines to boot. Sabres Hockey won't be the same when he finally steps down.

Discuss.

Rick Jeanneret IMO. I watch non-sabres games I fall asleep to the majority of the announcers. I bought that DVD, "Top Shelf" that replays all of Rick's best calls, sick dvd!

TSN's Chris Cuthbert.

End of story. Lock the thread.

I would have to agree. CBC = Stupid for letting him go.
I really can't stand Jim Hughson though. All I can think of when he is talking is NHL "insert year here" He's got the puck on a string. haha

You guys are lucky to get a choice like this. In the UK we tend to get the same guys doing all the games.

I will however let you guys see one of the finest football (soccer) commentators that has ever lived (RIP). He worked for my club, BWFC (bolton wanderers football club) and is something of a legend.

the two guys on the sofa are two brits on a show caled fantasy football. The clip is Dave Higson a legend in the land of Bolton

Sam and J.D. on MSG. Case closed....:D

If by JD you mean John Davidson, then I agree. Best announcer/colour commentary EVER. The guy was not only entertaining but the most knowledgable hockey guy I know of. Too bad he hasn't been around since taking the GM job for the Blues.

How about "Grrrrreaaaaat saaaave Luongo"

I think Jim Hughson is the same guy that does Tony the Tiger commercials lol

Don't know if he's one of the best, but one of my faves is a non-Sharks announcer. He does the play-by-play for the Coyotes and he sounds like he's calling a horse race...lol. Very exciting. Apologies for not knowing his name.

Dave Strader is the guy you're talking about. One of the best right now IMO. Him and Pang make a good duo, though too much of Pang on his own can cause headaches.

Hands down, the best announcer to ever grace the mic in the history of the NHL is and was D ick Irvin Jr

edit* hahah okay so **** is filtered. I hope the mods don't mind be stepping around it as in this case it's not a derogatory manner

who was the guy that had the famous "he shoots and scores" for the penguins in the 90's. he was pretty good. john davidson and doc emerick are awesome when paired together, except i think they only get paired up for nationally televised games.

I laugh everytime I see sabres highlights with that announcer, so funny.

Jim Hughson is another one of my favourites.

GGGRRRRRRRREEAT SAAVVVVVEEEE LUUUOONNNGGOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

J.d was great and to be honest, really nobody stands out now. Not a fan of Houston on the CBC

Dave Strader

I miss Dave Strader when he used to Announce the Red Wings game with Mickey Redmond many moons ago!

I could not agree with you more! He's the BEST! I remember watching the games on every Halloween to see what he would dress up like, b/c they would always bring the best dressed fans on the ice lol....he's a trip. Before the game, he has his suit and tie all nicely done, next period, his jacket is off, suspenders are showing, tie is either off or undone, looks like Rodney Dangerfield...probably b/c he was tipping a few back!
Love the guy, so many catch phrases
