LeBlond hit on Cote last night

Any word on a suspension? If Randy Jones got 2 games for his hit on Bergeron last year, this reeks of a 5-gamer. First-ever NHL game for the guy, and came up to a guy who had his back turned about 3 feet from the glass about 2 seconds AFTER Cote had the puck. This is exactly the kind of hit the NHL is trying to outlaw.
Then again, it was a hit on a member of the big bad Flyers, so I don't expect much.
 
A suspension should be warranted to send a message. However, if you only give Hollweg 3-games for his 58th offense... I can't see giving this kid 5 games.

I am sick of the whole Flyers double standard B.S. :| This is a new year, let it go already. :beer:
 
it was a pretty blatent boarding check, hope he does get a suspension, only clip of it I've seen is on TSN on the highlights clip of the Devils Flyers game, its still on there if anyone wants a look

Flyers or not, this hit was on a whole other level of nastiness and blatantness than the Randy Jones hit last year. No matter who Jones played for, if that was worthy of a 2-gamer, then this was worth 5 AT LEAST. Once again, it was against a Flyer, so I haven't heard about any proposed suspension. Just sayin.

Yeah, Randy Jones....theres a real dirty player and a thug. he gets a two game rip for his hit, and everyone cries he should be punished, yet when it happens to a Flyer, you get the "well it wasnt that bad" or the "Its not the same thing" response from people. We will stop crying about the double standard when the double standard is gone.
 
If Flyers management couldn't keep their thugs in check, then you can say Randy Jones' punishment was more a message to them than to Randy Jones. The Flyers fans need to understand that...most of them seem to choose to believe there is a double standard. There isn't. This isn't the 70s...the Broad Street Bullies are long retired. Those "excessive" punishments were a wake up call for the mamalukes running the Flyers.

On a personal note, I kinda enjoy the "double standards".
 
Actually Triple_B, the league said there was a message being sent AFTER all of the suspensions, and Jones was the 3rd of 5. The league suspended Jones, much like the Hartnell one, based on the outcome. It was going to be a clean hit, and Bergeron decided it was a great idea to slam on the brakes 3 feet from the glass with a guy right behind him. So yes, it was a suspension based on the result. Are you really trying to say LeBlond's hit wasn't an intent to injure?

At the risk of being labeled a troll, let me just finish my participation in this thread by saying that first off, I don't enjoy seeing anyone hurt. I LOVE seeing someone get absolutely smoked, but not if they don't get up.

Secondly, I just love hearing the Philly fans go ape **** when someone is suspended and it doesn't measure up to one of the suspensions handed out to a twit like Steve Downie or any of the other hooligans that skate up for the Flyers. Like I said, any seemingly excessive suspension handed out to a Flyer was likely more of a message to Philadelphia management to get their monkeys under control or else the suspensions will become longer.

Congratulations on the Phillies winning the World Series. Even this current cast showed that the "Broadstreet Bellies" are long gone and they did it with success. Hopefully the current Flyers can stop trying to ressurect the Bullies and concentrate on winning some games.
 
Briere, Richards, Carter, Timonen, Knuble, Gagne...yeah, damn those hooligans, always running around trying to injure people. Those monkeys who have no skill whatsoever. Those guys like Downie, what do they do? All he's done is Captain a Canadian National Team, never anything important.
Not sure what point you're trying to make with the Phillies, as baseball and hockey are 2 totally different sports. Not sure what this "current cast" of Phillies has to do with the "bellies" as you call them.
Also, you're from Toronto. Can't believe you could ever call anyone out as a "hooligan" or "monkey" when the last legitimate Toronto tough guy once punched a guy who was being held down, then literally hid behind Kaberle when Luke Richardson challenged him, only to yak at McCarthy when a ref was holding him back, and then try to fight a goalie CuJo was holding back. Such class by the fans to then chant his name.

Thank God you beat me to it JD, thank God. hes liek all canadian fans, they think because we liek to hit, and hti hard, and we have a reputation as being very physical, were all goons. Its basically them still crying about what the Flyers teams of the 70's and 80's did to the league. But God forbid you point out all the cheap shots in the rest of the league, caus then you hear "well there organazation doesnt need a message sent liek the Flyers do". So to sum up Triple B, your sayign because of what happened in the 70's, they shoudl punish the Flyers more excessively, which the last time I checked was the equivalent of a double standard. Yuo dont see the NHL levying harsh suspensions against teh Ducks for Chris Prongers antics do you??? No you dont, and every time somethign happens involving the Flyers, everyone else cries. Nothing more to it, they just cry to the "teacher" that little johnny over there hit me or is makign fun of me. It is really quite sad.
