LIDSTROM, CHARA, PHANEUF NOMINATED FOR NORRIS TROPHY

There is something to be said for consistency.

The National Hockey League has released the finalists for the 2007-2008 Norris Trophy, awarded to the league's best defencemen. Leading the way is five-time winner Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings.

Lidstrom is currently tied with Ray Bourque, and one behind Doug Harvey and two behind Bobby Orr for most Norris Trophies all-time. This is Lidstrom's ninth nomination in the last 10 years.

"It meant a lot tying Ray Bourque last year, who was a player I looked up to and admired when he was playing before I even came into the league," Lidstrom told the Canadian press. "It was a great honour to get to No. 5. And getting to No. 6 would be even bigger. Especially with Bobby Orr having eight."

If anyone ever doubts that it should be Lidstrom - they only have to listen/read any interviews with Future Hall Of Fame players/coaches AFTER they either come to the Red Wings or play against them in a Playoff Series.

Hands down - he makes the defensive part of the game make it look easier than any player EVER - including Orr (as Orr himself proclaimed in an interview couple of months ago). He never has to make himself look better with a comeback play - because he is almost never out of the ideal position. he has been a pleasure to watch these past 16 or so years.


Also here is a plug for Datsyuk to win the Selke - he had so many steals this year - he should have been locked up!!!

Just want to add Bruce that I thank my lucky stars I've gotten the chance to watch Nick play and some of the Wings fans around here are in for a rude awakening when he retires. Just hope the team doesn't take the huge step backward I'm envisioning when he leaves!!
