Just like you said, people put high BIN's someone may bite and if not make an offer.
Pretty plain and simple I think. Plus having a high BIN may attract more views from people thinking wth?
 
The way he's running his auction works best...it might not be reasonable, BUT you noticed and are also giving him free advertising. Seems like it's working well...
 
just another in a long line of total watse of time auctions, see way to many on my daily ebay search. As soon as i see BIN or BO on the right i just skip over them and keep going, although at least i get a laugh out of them sometimes.

Why skip them? Why not take a chance and make an offer at the price you want to pay? I don't understand this logic

Well, I guess you just stereotype everyone then huh? I have had great success with my BIN and BO listings. I do not like to leave my cards running at auction and hope they do well. What's wrong with someone not wanting to sell what he owns dirt cheap?
Many buyers in this hobby feel like sellers should practically give their stuff away after spending a good chunk of change on boxes. Well, this BIN BO option gives us a chance to make sure we don't get fleeced.
Are there times when I get silly offers that I don't even bother to respond to? Of course. That doesn't mean it's still not a successful way to sell

While this may be true, I've also pretty much only experienced the flip-side of the coin. I stay away from BIN/OBO's because half the time, the BIN is set so high that what's truly a "fair" offer is looked at as a snub. It also usually leads to them just counter-offering for something higher anyways.

I've had good success with the auction route and unless it's a rare piece that I truly don't think I'll see for some time, I stay away from the BIN/OBO.

I totally don't understand your logic there. If it's a card you're interested in, why wouldn't you take a stab at it with the Best Offer?

As a seller that uses 99% store inventory format with BIN/ Best Offer, if it's a rare card or popular player, I will definitely start out high - doesn't mean I won't take a lower offer, but shouldn't I get what I can for it?

I just bid what I think I want to pay - it seems to work more than you think. However that is a pretty high starting point in my mind

You've never bid on my stuff then. Someone send me a fair offer, I take it.
Someone insults me with an offer, I counter... sometimes nicely, sometimes not-so-nice. ;)
 
Sometimes people do questionable things to attract attention or ridicule. There is no such thing as bad publicity. TMZ has branded itself around that idea.

Personally, if I'm putting up an item with a best offer, it's between 1.5x and 2.5x the price I want to get for it. This means that even when I get an offer of 25%, I can still set up a dialog to get my desired price. It usually keeps my BIN prices less than silly.

She is a bit out to lunch with that pricing, but I have been guilty of this as well as you can see with some of my auctions. hehe

I put some rarer PC items up for very high BIN OBO in case there is someone who has the means to pry it.
 
At the end of the day it's the seller's card and their choice on what they list it at. I could go onto ebay and find 100's of listings with what seem to be excessively high prices. I'm not sure why a new thread is needed every time someone finds an item with a BIN they don't agree with.

Agree 100%. I pretty much skip over the BIN's/offers accepted now the majority of the time. Too many fragile Ebay egos out there being "snubbed" by "low offers". Of course, Ebay is laughing all the way to the bank with their listing/selling fees and these "fragile Ebay egos" are still sitting on their cards.....unsold.

But, the biggest reason to me is that too many offers are being outright ignored and not even counter offered. It would seem in addition to those who are "insulted" by "low offers" :rolleyes: that many sellers think an offer "pending" is going to attract more offers somehow......so they ignore the offer til it expires. To me this is the same as owning a store, having a customer come in and walk up to the counter and offer to buy something ( ie. pull out their cash).....and the owner just ignores them. How is this supposed to help sell your card??:rolleyes::|If I see a bunch of expired offers.....there's no way Im going to waste time on that auction or seller.....I move on.
To those who say "I will not respond to low offers, they are an insult"......put your "Ebay ego" aside....work with your customer by counteroffering....you might actually get a sale in the end.

It's the sellers decision to do what they like with their cards, at 35 cents a month to list a card that might be 200-1000 dollars it is worth it by a longshot.

Auction ending prices are far too erratic right now to risk putting anything worthwhile up that way IMO.


Aside: How much do you think the card in the OP is really worth?

I don't have many "high-end" cards...but in the last 6 months I would say I have put 3 up on the bay that would fall into that category, all of them with the BIN/BO option. 2 of them sold the first time I listed them for about 80% of my BIN price, and the other one received 2 offers that I decided not to take. Clearly, there are plenty of buyers out there willing to make a fair offer, and plenty of sellers willing to accept one. It seems like part of the issue here is where the original asking price is set. All I know is that I wouldn't list a high end card in this economy auction style unless I really needed the money, and would just accept the highest offer anyways.
