Figured that I'd pull this one out of the mothballs since there are only 2 weeks left, essentially, in 2013.

Simply put, grab your predictions from this the thread below and measure up how you did.

http://hobbyinsider.net/forum/showthread.php?t=340979&highlight=goals

For me, my goals were:

1> Finish getting the images I need for He Shoots He Saves
-- Book pushed to Nov. 2014, concentrating on edits over images at this point.

2> Declutter.
-- I'll give myself halfsies on this one. Have a potential buyer lined up and everything not staying in the PC or in individual trade pile is boxed up.

3> Convince the good Doctor that no more Jets autos need to be created. Failing that, keep up with the Jets autos project.
-- Big failure here. I'm out four autos right now, though I did manage to crack the 100 auto mark thanks to Motown Madness and up until the release of Decades 90s I did have the full run. Sadly, wife's job loss impacted my hobby dollars greatly.

4> Add a half dozen more Signature Rookie auto promos and finish one of the two insert series.
-- Added a couple more Sig Rookie auto promos, probably 4 if I really looked back, and no progress on the inserts. Blame this one on one coming up

5> Finish one of the Jets seasons parallel series - either 11-12 Score Glossy or 12-13 OPC Retro
-- Painfully close. 1 left for glossy, 2 left for Retro. Haven't started 13-14, and here's why...

6> Find a reason to continue the Selanne, Botterill, Hawerchuk etc. collections.
-- I ended up altering my pursuits here and pulled on the reins. Rather than focusing on one player, I'm putting energy into getting the full Jets 1.0 run complete, at least to the 96-97 season when 'current' cards were created. You'll see this as my focal point for 2014.

7> Finish my WWE National Heroes and WWE Heritage Superstars Speak insert series. Easily the sets I had the most fun working on.
-- Added a couple from each, but there are painfully too few WWE card collectors on boards like this.

8> Forget that Gangnam Style ever existed.
-- Managed to do that pretty well, but now I'm trying to understand what the hell the fox said.

1) Quality over quantity
2) Collect as many of the seven Superlative III Gaborik NY Rangers game-worn nameplate letters as possible
3) Acquire a full game worn Gaborik jersey (this one is not likely to happen in 2013)

1) Success.

2) I managed to score three of the seven Superlative Gaborik letters, the "A", "O", and "R". I'd love to keep adding more but I'm pretty happy to own three of them. I also managed a couple of game-used nameplate letters from Panini products this year which is a bonus.

3) I knew this one was unlikely and it didn't happen in 2013. Maybe some day.

1) Get an Eberle The Cup Rookie
2) Reach 300 cards in my Eberle collection
3) Start and complete at least 1 Oilers set project
4) Get a graded copy of Avengers #4 (Silver Age)
5) Spend less, trade more
6) Be more active on HI
7) Have fun

I may have contradicted myself with #5 given what my goals for acquisitions are...

1) Mission accomplished
IMG-1-1.jpg

2) Not even close. In fact, I probably sold more than I acquired.

3) Mission accomplished 11-12 Edmonton Oilers The Cup Stanley Cup Signatures

4) Mission accomplished

5) Not even close, I probably spent more this year and only made a handful of trades.

6) Not really, I'm not very active anywhere these days.

7) Debatable

So 3/7 I guess. I did well with the acquisition aspect, but poorly on the hobby life part.

I plan on slowly plugging away at the 06-07 Parkhurst auto set one by one. I definitely want to add the Doug Gilmour, Wendel Clark, and John Anderson autos to complete all the Leafs from that set, and what the heck even though he's pictured in a Chicago uniform, the Jim Pappin auto as well. He was a Leaf player on the 67 Cup team.

I will continue to pick up any nascar autos I can afford to buy. I pretty much have most of the prominent names to ever race in the series. Need Brad Keselowski, and Joey Logano for current names, and need a few retirees like Ernie Irvan, Bill Elliott, Rex White, and Marvin Panch.

Also, hoping to add any new actor/actresses autographs that had anything to do with The Sopranos. Hoping some of the new non-sports releases have some new ones in their product. I will also be looking to add autos of any popular actors, actresses, and musicians I don't already have. A couple of names on the list are Katie Holmes, Ashley Judd, and Charlie Sheen to name a few.

I have made great progress on the 06-07 Parkhurst set, getting down to 25 to go. I knocked off quite a few toughies, but have yet to get the Gilmour, Clark, or Anderson. Hoping to knock of several more in 2014, although 10-15 will be off limits unless I come into some serious coinage.

I was able to knock off the Keselowski, Elliott, and Logano autos, and a couple others, but still need to get White, and Panch. Also, may try to add a Danica auto ths year if the price is right, plus add any newcomers like the Dillon boys.

Didn't do very well with non-sports autos this year. I have my eye on getting a Feetch Lamanna auto for my Sopranos project, as there is one out now. Did mange to add a nice Stan Lee auto'd 8X10 for the collection. Hoping to add any new sopranos actors autos, and the same wants from 2013 (Katie Holmes, Ashley Judd, and Charlie Sheen etc) plus any new actors/actresses/musicians that interest me.

I spent most of money buying autographed hockey singles of retired HOF type players. I'd rather spend my cash on Beliveau, Lafleur, Lindsay, Howe, Bssy, Dionne, Mahovlich, and so on, than to buy the new products. I'm just not interested in any of the new kids on the block. I also added some autos of my Maple Leafs, and quite a few more Kessel autos, as he is the only current player I PC.

I'd like to get up around 90% in the Odelein collection & pick away at some other projects, I should also downsize the ol' stick collection too. Getting 45 at once was a little overwhelming

I'm not sure of the exact percentage of my Odelein collection but I did add a lot more cards than were produced this year so I'd say I'm close. I also added my first pack pulled 1/1 of him so I'll count it.

I didn't really get too far with my other projects except for 02-03 Topps Heritage Chrome /667 where I likely added 20-25 cards to the slowly growing set. These don't show up on trade lists & I refuse to pay $4-5 a card

The stick collection... well it got a little bigger but I plan to list probably 30 for sale after Christmas

#1- Find the last printing plate I need from 09-10 The Cup
- Still nothing on that front

#2- Get a second Iginla GU stick
- Had a lead on one at the start of the year but couldn't land it

#3- Get to 800 cards for my Iginla base and inserts collection
- Don't have my final tally but I believe I'm a little short

#4- Pick up a couple Sven Baertschi BGS 9.5 rookies
- Picked up his Young Guns BGS 9.5 and am happy with that

#5- Finally add a nice Lemieux auto to my PC
- Pretty low priority so didn't really look for one this year

- Continue working on completing my 10-11 Limited Logos and 2011 Goodwin Autograph sets

Between what I saw as unlikely prospects of landing the Gretzky /10 at a price I felt comfortable with and knowing that almost half the print run was locked up in a PC, combined with my skepticism of the authenticity of some of the GU material, I decided to sell off my set. I was only 15 or so short, with Gretzky, Toews, and Ovechkin the only big names I had left. I kept a couple of the cards for my personal collection and moved the rest. On the Goodwin front, I've picked up maybe 5 more autos this year. The biggest cards left on the checklist for me is Jordan and Grant Hill. The rest should come well under $100 a piece. This is something that I'll pick up from time to time.

- SLOWLY chip away at the History of Hockey art card checklist. Easier said than done with respect to the SLOWLY part.

***This is moving along at about the rate I expected when I set off on this journey. 15/40 /1 (16 copies though with one Orr double), 15/40 /10 (not doing 81-144 of gold), and 34/64 /40. There are still a few cards that I have barely seen copies of which makes sense given how the collecting world reacted to this product. That being said, some sellers are simply delusional on their asking prices. Over the next year or two hopefully these prices will come down. I think within about 3 years this set might get completed.

- Finally put together an OPC master set. 10-11 retros look nice.

Well this goes together with my last goal. I bought 10 cases of 13-14 OPC. With the collation disaster that ensued, keeping any for myself was not going to happen. That being said, I still have about 20,000 cards of inventory that I need to work on revising some listings on...

- Give flipping a multi-case buy such as 13-14 S1 or 12-13 S2 a shot.

I did 10 cases of OPC and Series 1. It was fun and a learning experience with both releases. I don't know if I'll be doing any other products this season, perhaps S2 or SPA. But I'll likely do it again next year. With each release comes tweaking the process, expanding the customer base, and making new contacts.

All in all not a bad year. Now to think about the 2014 list...

1. Try to add as many new Vanbiesbroucks as possible to my PC but at least 40 new cards(or whatever stuff from my want list).

2. Keep adding cards I like to my "just cards I like" collection.

3. Try to trade more cards.

1. Brutally successful as Panini entered the game..

2. Yep but this had escalated as I started a new project to collect as much 90s inserts as possible. So I added like 8000 new cards…

3. Not good at all.. Not even close. I would love to get time to take pictures of my stuff so I can trade but unless someone invent a 48 hour day it's not gonna happen.

Let's see how I did...

1 find at least one Sedin card from my pre-Panini era wantlist (only 9 cards on the list, this one could be tough)

Yup. Found the 09-10 Prime Choice Reserve Three Stars card - by far the easiest of the 9 cards of course, the rest are going to be near impossible to find.

2 hit the century mark for Sedin 1/1's (real cards only - no printing plates) I started last year with 38 and picked up 39 this year, so this shouldn't be too hard if new product is released at the same rate as last year

Yup. Just hit the milestone back in November, the lack of releases was really the only thing that threatened to hold me back here.

3 grow the PC to 2500 unique Sedin cards

Yup. Just reached it in November as well, and just like the above, it was just a matter of time once the lockout ended.

4 update my website with some additional info about my collection

Nope. Not really sure what I had in mind anyways - it's a hockey card collection so I think the pics really speak for themselves. I do have a few oddball items that I need to scan, so maybe I'll shift focus to doing that instead, and with spare time over the holidays I might yet complete this before the end of the year.

5 Have Fun! This year was the first time since I started collecting that I started to question my obsession, hopefully just some lockout blues.

Yup. I think the lockout actually helped here, a much slower release calendar for the first half of the year let me slow down the acquisitions, and spend a bit more time organizing and just enjoying what I already have. With the Sedins signing their 4 year extensions that I assume will be their last contract, I'm excited to have a few more years to watch them play, at the same time I can perhaps focus on other things in life when they retire :)

WOW..I completely forgot that I actually posted on that thread!

1. to obtain some of my +10-years old white whales...

2. get angry that my currently PC-players gets so few cards...

3. to selling cards from my former´PC-players like Cujo, Jagr, Hasek, Lemieux, 90's inserts/parallels etc...

4. get angry that my main PC-player almost only gets 1/1's or /9's and "crappy" cards... while players like Tony Twist gets 5x NHL-shield + Limited Logos cards every year

5. to not oversleeping or miss any auction (+10x times at 2012!)...

6. get angry that it's frickin' impossible to find those darn /100's or /150's from late 90's or early 00's with my main PC-player...

7. seriously considering to end my hobby career at late 2013....too expensive and time consuming to buy cards with my main PC.player for now....

----------------------------

1. 2013 has been a fantastic year to obtaining 90's prallels into my PC, pretty unbleievable that I sighted many of
those prallels for first time this year...why just during 2013 and why not 2010, 2003, 2001 or 1999???
A damn whaleload of harpooned white whales durig 2013....

2. This year has been quite tough year for my wallet...pretty many new cards and a lot older cards surfaced at ebay so much more frequenty compared with 2012.

3. I has sold a lot of my older PC and older junk for +$1500 and mostly in sweden, surprisingly easy to move base cards and junk in this country...! I have still too MUCH remaining to move!
They takes too much spaces and are totally useless for me, it's so much more difficult to selling card if it's no Price, Crosby, RNH, Yaks or Felix Potvin on the cards in nowadays....those players I collected eariler aren't junks exactly (Jagr, Lemieux, Ward, Hasek, Cujo, Lundqvist etc..) but oh man tohse're impossible to sell while some B or C-tier pr even D-tier players sell extremely well! A lot better than Le Magnifique, the greatest player ever! Absurd!!

4. Haha...but true that too many of my missing PC-cards are waay too difficult to gather, too many /2, /3, /9 and of course 1/1's this year to hunt....

5. A lot better this year, but of course still missed some but unfortuntately 2 pretty devastating misses....but not my own fault, once was when ebay search engine never found that card in my computer despiter that the seller spelled allt hose 4 player names 110% correctly, the 2nd miss was when the seller completely screwed up with that item description and ended up ridiculously low....not fun when I found that card when I searched thorough the completed listings at ebay!

6. just see up above at the 1st entry here.

7. I'll still continue to collect, I was just bitter and frustrated at that time haha but 2012 was a VERY weak year for me with VERY few card compared with this year! Easily 4-5x more new additions into my PC as comparison!
Looks like that I have a lot new ones to hunt early 2014!

Okay, here's what I wrote back then, and how I did. Pretty darn good when I look back.

  • Finish another player or two in the RC collection (21 I need only 1 parallel)
  • Knocked a couple off for sure. The Daniel Winnik collection was iced with the 07-08 HG YG. Next, I finished the Vaclav Nedorost collection with a long lost 01-02 Topps Chrome Black Refractor /50. I guess you could count the Cory Sarich collection, which didn't exist last year, but I got all 3 RCs of his. And Sami Aittokallio, who got a 13-14 OPC RC and parallels. Finally, I have two 05-06 Hot Prospects White Hots on the way to complete the Greg Zanon and Joakim Lindstrom collections. With some other additions and new players, I'm still at 19 players where I'm 1 parallel away.

  • Finish Cup RC Rainbow #9
  • Nope. Cup Rainbows are getting a little rougher to find. Had a chance at one, but I'm too cheap to spend $100+ on a guy that will never sniff the NHL again. Did land an 05-06 Gold Rainbow Wolski /8 to get a black away from that one.

  • Make good progress on my insane set missions (02-03 Victory Silver and Gold, 11-12 Pinnacle Rink Collection)
  • Yeah, lots done here. Up to 220/250 on the Pinnacle Rink collection set. And over halfway on the Victory Silvers. Plus I finished the 05-06 Beehive base, Red, Blue and Beige sets. And my 00-01 Titanium All-Stars set.

  • Get my Avs RC (non-parallel) collection back to 100% (Landy Luxury, Landy Rookie Treasures, Landy Cup :| )
  • Still need the Landy Cup. And not counting 13/14 stuff (stupid MacKinnon), just 12-13 Tyson Barrie Black Diamond and Ultimate. Oh, and a Max Talbot 05-06 Cup RC since we picked him up in a trade during the year.

  • Continue finding treasures for others since I can't find my own anymore...
  • Yep, had some fun with this one as well. I started this thread, where I found nice rare cards for I think 7 different members. Also, just grabbed Christmas surprises for another couple members.

  • and since I failed last year... buy a shield at a decent price
  • Nope, no shields still. Lost out on the Mike Connolly Prime, to a guy just trying to resell it. But maybe more importantly, I found me a Tough Patch! Even rarer than a shield (if your name isn't Mr. Angel), so that was pretty awesome.

Now I gotta start thinking about my 2014 goals!

1.) Continue to streamline my collection into things I love

This I believe I have been fairly successful with. I have also paid for 2 Disneyland trips with the junk (stuff I don't love) so I will give myself a +1 on this one!

2.) Finish my 04-05 Heroes and Prospects autos (down to 4!)

Got the Getzlaf (on a sale here on HI) so now am down to 3. I have thought about them a few times but money went to Disneyland instead. Will try to pick these up this year as I love this set!

3.) Finish my 10-11 Contenders set (need the Paajarvi)

Still need Paajarvi, almost bought the gold (no auto and /100 but decided I will wait and do it right)

4.) Continue to pick up O Canada and Clear Cut Combos

Sold off all my O Canada gear and just kept the autos which I have picked up quite a few that I need making it tougher to find ones I still need! Have picked up some more Clear Cut Combos as well! +1

5.) Make a few more trade nights than I have been!!!

Think I have made 2 trade nights all year. Epic fail. This I will try to do better with next year!!!

Not bad but still a ways to go!!!

1. Keep Expanding the Sateri collection and to get to 80%+

- I've expanded the collection to close to 100 total, but still have a good amount to get before hitting 80%. Mainly looking for 1/1's with a ton of Printing Plates. Still working on this goal, but it will be tough as 11/12 items are starting to dry up. There are only around 20 Non 1/1's left including the Namesakes doubles. However they are low numbered. Partial Success.

2. Add some more Game Used items into the collection, various teams/players

- I did add some Game Used with another Worcester Gamer and a few other items, but nothing of other teams. Partial Success.

3. Focus more on my Worcester IceCats/Worcester Sharks Collections

- I started to add some here and there, but I didn't make as much of a dent as i wanted to. Long way to go on this one and I hope to get back into working on this more. Not Successful enough

4. Purchase at least one Hobby Box

- I purchased a 10-11 Zenith Hobby Box along with various packs and Retail from Black Friday sales and shopping, but I will not be opening them until Christmas. Looking to potentially buy another box after the holidays. Success!

-Now to think of more Goals!

1- Find another 2 or 3 James Neal The Cup Gold Rainbow /18, at this point it should get pretty hard considering there only 6 out there left.

Only manage to grab 1, still pretty good considering i have 13 on the 15 that appeared online at some point.I still have 5 to chase.

2- Add a couple of James Neal Cup APR /249 with a pice of emblem for patch, another tough task.

Only snagged 1, again still pretty good considering on all the Neal APR i withnessed online im pretty sure less then 10% have a piece of emblem/patch

3- Sell pretty much everything else i have remaining cardboard related, even supplies i think i have more then my LCS.

Doing my best on this one, whit the revenue Quebec letter i received last year, if you sell over 2500$ on ebay you should declare them as bussiness revenue.I dont want to pass that margin.Lots of stuff i have left wouldnt garner an opening bid so i should consider a bulk lot or something.

Overall im happy i didnt went overboard on box purchase.Grabbed a few box of ITG at the Montreal expo and whit the redemption program, my sales pretty much covered the box price.Same with SPA, 3 box and a Fleury auto plus a SOTT 5 covered the box purchase.I bought 2 cases of UD 1 this year, still have one sealed case i consider selling down the road plus i will do a gradding submission when BGS have a really cheap 100+ card for 45 days turnaround deal.

1) Have all hockey cards scanned by the end of 2013
2) Maintain at least 80% completion on both of my PC guys in 2013
3) Finish off the few sets I am working

1) Missed by about 40,000. I was able to add about 60,000 images during this year.
2) Success
3) Partial Success. I have completed most of the sets I started, but didn't finish them all, plus I started some new sets.

Here were my goals

Goal #1 - HAVE FUN!

Goal #2 - No busting any cases at all and that includes The Cup

Goal #3 - try to purchase all 25 (graded SGC) HOFers from the 1911 T205 baseball set.

Results

Goal #1 Yes I had fun

Goal #2 I busted just 1 tin of the Cup all year

Goal #3 Just 2 cards short

1- Find 10 cards from my Turco wantlist, including the 2011-12 Cup POE Dual with Belfour... if it exists
Partial success here, I added 6 Turco cards off my wantlist, though when you're sitting around 98% completion, that's successful. I did add The Cup dual POE

2- Add another 10 Turco 1/1's to my collection...
Not counting show stamped 1/1's I was able to add 5 or 6 1/1's. So this was a failure

3- Keep my Chet and Calvin Pickard collections as complete as possible
This was a success, very close to completion on both even after NHL licensed cards hit.

4- Add two cards to my 00-01 Topps Mario Lemieux Reprint Autograph set (sitting at 7/23 cards)
Failure here, didn't get any cards at all towards this set. In fact, I forgot to bid on one...

In terms of my game worn collection...

1- Add at least two Turco gamers I don't already own to the collection. Iideally a Hawks road white and black third... Though a K-Wings or Wolverines jersey would be amazing
Success here, I was able to add a Wolverines gamer and a pre lockout green Stars jersey to the collection. Missed out on a Hawks third gamer however

2- Add a Calvin Pickard Thunderbirds jersey to the collection
No dice

3- Add either another Marc Andre Fleury or a Kris Letang jersey to the collection
No dice once again

1) currently at 84 percent for the Henrique pc. Get to 90 and don't fall below
--------managed to get to over 90% and have only dipped at the debut of a big para-hell set. but currently sit at 96%

2) continue with my certified and dominion pc of kovalchuk
--------he's a traitor and left. I've sold of almost all of what I had of his and used those funds to knock bigger stuff off the henrique wantlist.

I'm finally having fun so keep that
--------this has come and gone. It's pretty up there right now as i'm finding alot of fun busting boxes. Have to curtail that with some recent life stuff.
