Lost whales

I was wondering who out there have let whales go in hopes that another copy will pop up sometime in the future only to be left with disapointment at either never spotting the card again or the price being astronomically higher.


Currently I am trying to finish my Century Legends set needing only the Lemieux and Howe autos to be finally done. I have let both of these autos go in the past due to either not having money when they have popped up in the past or the price going higher than I was willing to pay at the time. I have finally spotted one of them but the price is starting to go well beyond what is reasonable to pay, i'm torn between letting it go for a better price in the future or pulling the trigger and just biting the bullet to get me one step closer to my goal. Tonight is decision night for me still a little time to decide.
 
Kicking myself for letting a Tanguay SP 07-08 OPC Auto and 07-08 Black Diamond Gemography go by. Although they're too new to qualify as whales, I've only ever seen one other OPC auto, and have never seen another gemography.

That's how I'm looking at it. Unfortunately, there isn't much available either here or on the bay.
 
I have placed my last ditch bid....I do hope that i'm able to pull it off, altho, if not there is always the expo in nov. my fingers are crossed so i'll have to wait and see how this pans out.
 
I lost out on mine once so far...I won't let it happen again.

It sold for about $100, which isn't a lot. I wasn't seriously collecting EJ at the time, so that's why I didn't go harder for it.

A fellow EJ collector here won it...
 
Well a quick update, looks like my final bid won out after all.... I bought the Lemieux Century Legends auto for $137.50 It was around 37.50 more than I wanted to pay for it but I needed it for the set and didnt really want to risk not seeing another ever again.

I've never lost out on a true whale. I have been frustrated trying to land some of the bigger fish tho.

congrats, it's a nice card.

i watch for lemieux autos all the time.. about 3, 4 of those pop up reguarly a year.
 
It would be the 05-06 Ultimate Auto Patch RC /25 of Sid the Kid.
I actually owned, then sold it, then decided to do the set.
Funny thing is that I sold it for less than half of what they are selling for now.
I suppose it will always be the hole in my sig.
