Hello everyone,

The following cards are pickups from mid January to late February. I going to try and make this a monthly event to let everyone know which cards I have knocked off my sets wantlist. As many are aware, I'm chasing very limited sets that are now 14 years old, so it is a daunting challenge to say the least. The aide I've received from the different forums and facebook group members in finding these cards has been superb, so thank you to everyone who has provided information leading to a purchase. Here are my latest acquisitions, without further adieu lets begin:

2005 Beckett UD Promo cards:

It's been a while since I've been able to add to this set, they can be tough to find. The only feature that separates these "base" cards from the series 1 release is a red "UD PROMO" stamp across the front of the card. With the addition of the Zetterberg and Hasek I now have 61/200 or 31% of the set.

2005-06 UD NHL Generations Dual Redden/Boynton

Not much to say about this one other than it has a nice 2-colour piece on the Boynton swatch. Happy to knock this off the list.

2005-06 Ultimate Jersey Modano 218/250

A tough 3-colour copy of Modano's Ultimate Jersey 218/250. The first I have ever seen but I'm sure there are more out there. I can always count on the old stars jersey to produce some nice swatches.

2005-06 Victory Silver /250

While this set is not overly flashy, they can be tough to find due to their similarity to the base set. The only thing that separates them is the silver border with the serial numbered stamp on the back. These are sometimes confused for the victory update cards which also have a silver border, but those cards were packed into 05-06 UD series 2 boxes and were not serial numbered. Only silver bordered cards from #1-200, which came in victory boxes, have a stamped number /250 on the back. I was pleased to be able to add the Demitra and Nash to the collection.

2005-06 Victory Gold Gretzky 7/100

Now these are far more distinct in appearance than their silver counterparts. Having already secured the Howe last month, I was on the hunt for the other retired legends from this set which were Gretzky and Messier. I had never laid eyes on a copy of either, but as luck would have it, a fellow member had it listed on their website and was looking to part with it. I'm incredibly happy to knock this off the list so early on into the set. The Gretzky is numbered 7/100, now if only I could find the victory black version one day haha.

2005-06 Victory Black Visnovsky 3/5

I cannot overstate how tough these are to find. I managed to locate the Visnovsky on a German card website and our good friend, Eishelges, was kind enough to help with the transaction. This now brings me to 54/300 or 18% complete. Thanks so much Helge!

2005-06 Powerplay Impact Parallel Roenick 37/97

These cards are identical to the regular powerplay base cards with the exception production being limited to the player's jersey number shown by the serial number. Already having the Yzerman /19 and Nabokov /20, I decided to collect all that I could find, which is alot tougher than it seems. The Roenick is the most plentiful copy to be had, being /97, so it will only get tougher from here on out.

2005 Canadian Fall Expo Blake 8/10

Again, it has been a while since I've been able to add to this set. They do not pop up as often as they once did. With the addition of the Blake, I now stand at 60/250 or 24% complete.

2005-06 UD Game Patch Series 2 Sakic 1/15

I was able to secure a nice 2-colour copy of the series 2 Sakic patch /15. From my findings, it seems that the series 2 version only appears in a solid black patch or, on rare occasions, a black/white patch. A far cry from my 3-colour series 1 Sakic. So I was pretty happy to find a 2-colour copy and the first one off the press no less! The Sakic gives me 47/93 series 2 patches or 51% of the set.

2005-06 Steen Rookie Collection

This collection was purchased from a former Steen collector and I'd like to thank them for making it available. You can tell a lot of work went into tracking down the best versions of each card that was possible. It fits perfectly with what my collection is all about and I am very happy to add these to my ever growing collection. If anyone out there has a player PC which intersects the year 2005-06, and you are looking to sell, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'm sure we will be able to come an agreement which will work for the both of us. The Steen cards are (in no particular order):

And now the top 5...

#5. 2005-06 UD High Glossy /10

If you remember from January's show-and-tell, my number one pickups were my high glossy additions. Fortunately for me, the competition for this month was so strong that I had to move them down to five! The top HG add was by far the Jaromir Jagr 9/10. This card had been on my radar for a few years now, and it finally recently became available. The other two HG cards, the Prospal (10/10) and McLearn (7/10) both came in separate deals. These 3 new acquisitions brings me to 165/487 or 34% of the set.

#4. 2005-06 The Cup Scripted Swatches /25

The number 4 spot belongs to a couple of firsts for me. Previous to these additions I had never owned any scripted swatches cards from 05-06, and I must say, these are incredible in person! Both the Raycroft and Giguere are rare 3-colour copies. The Raycroft is particularly unique since it is obvious that the patch comes from the "1" on the sleeve. Very happy to add these two into the fold.

#3. 2005-06 The Cup Honorable Numbers

Another set of firsts for my collection, having previously never owned any cards from this set. I cannot overstate how incredible these look in person, especially the 5-colour Lehtonen 15/32. The patch comes from the fifth season patch which was worn during the 2003-04 season with the inscription of 1999-2004. A section of the "1999" can be seen in the patch window. The Gerber 29/29 is a sharp 3-colour Hurricanes patch from the season they won it all!

#2. 2005-06 The Cup Limited Logos Giguere 28/50

This card speaks for itself, and it is the first limited logos card in my collection. What makes this card incredible is the ridiculous 4-colour vintage Mighty Ducks patch, and also how well the autograph has held up after 14 years. This set was notorious for having signatures fade if overly exposed to light, and this autograph looks mint. You can tell the previous owners took good care of this card and I intend on doing the same.

And now to the number 1 spot.....

#1. 2005-06 Powerplay Impact Parallel Luongo 1/1

Finding this card alone is the equivalent to finding one needle in a field of haystacks, let alone acquiring it. As I explain earlier in this post, the impact parallels were each numbered to the players jersey number and Luongo has worn number 1 since joining the league. What makes this find so special, other than it being a 1/1, is that it takes incredible luck for someone to not only pull it from a pack, but also notice what they have since it would appear to only be a regular base card at a quick glance. I have found this to be the case numerous times in set collecting, to the untrained eye it would appear as nothing special and might end up hidden away in storage for all eternity haha. Should I ever decide to move this in the future, I will reach out to a few die-hard Luongo collectors on this forum, but just rest easy that this rarity has been found :) The only other 1/1 from this set is the Raycroft, which I have never seen. Here's to hoping!

Well if you have made it this far, thank you for the time and please do not hesitate to contact me with information on cards I need or those you are looking to sell. Looking forward to what March will bring, comments/feedback are welcome and have a great weekend everyone :)

Wow! Absolutely love your posts. The stern 05/06 holds a special place for me. But that 1/1 Luongo is such a hard hit, hard to not make that a 1/1! Thanks for showing

So many beautiful cards here. I loved 05-06 designs, so seeing your posts always bring back great hobby memories.

So many cards to choose from. Man, that Giguere LL is pretty, but that Luongo is super rare and such an extremely tough find.

Way to go ! :) Looking forward to your monthly recaps.

Incredible Luongo pickup. Those impact parallels from 05-06 and 06-07 are a pain to track down. Some other beauties in there as wel. Still have to get that thank you package sent your way. Hopefully I get it it out for your February show and tell.

Sweet pick ups... love 05/06.
Need a hg lebda young gun?

I have one already but thank you for looking out! Here is a link to my flickr account in case anyone else is wondering if I may already have a card: https://www.flickr.com/photos/153486645@N06/collections
