And the grandfather of all postwar cards. . .

Gordie Howe - 1951/52 Parkhurst RC - BVG 5.5

(highest in the population report)

Both are HUGE notches in my project and I'm ecstatic that they were already in BVG slabs. I simply cannot stop staring at the Howe. In my opinion, it's the hockey equivalent of the Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps RC.

Simply awesome Jay... Thats a beaut. How'd you get the Howe? I once knew of Howe RC that was in unreal condition. Sharp corners, no glue or discoloration, but it sold locally. The thing was unreal for its age. I wonder if the guy turned around and sold it and maybe the one you have is it. Who knows. Awesome though!

Holy Moses :O I've never seen a Howe RC, and the first one I have, is the best one out there, graded. Great collection piece!

Simply put. That Howe is one of the "Holy Grails" in the hobby, period. I bet both of those would fetch PSA 7+ too which make the Howe a $2,500+ card IMO. Great to knock of those two and the highest in the pop report is just gravy. Mike

Ernie - It's highly unlikely that my Howe RC is the same one you saw locally. There are quite a few nicer quality copies floating around. Unfortunately, the better ones are either slabbed by PSA... or unslabbed at all, which calls authenticity into question.

Joshua - Sawchuk RC's in 7+ condition are quite hard to find. I would never buy a raw one... and pre-slabbed copies in that condition will run you an arm and a leg. I will keep my eyes open for you, but be prepared to spend full book or more.

Trev - Thanks man. I still have some decent headway to make on the set, but all of the remaining cards are of the "common" variety. Hopefully, I will be able to pick some up locally at the big show here in August.

Mike - Thanks. I'm not sure the Howe would cross to a PSA 7 because of the corner wear. That's really the only flaw on the card. It would definitely be a strong PSA 6, though. I still can't believe I own a copy of this card now.


Thanks to everyone else for taking a moment to reply. I realize we're not talking about the latest, shiny, 21st century, patch/auto/rookie, etc. However, I'm glad that at least a few people appreciate these vintage cards.
