Major Announcement - Regarding Upper Deck

Wow. this is going to be one huge task, not just taking the photos but getting them all scanned in and uploaded. I can't even fathom how much time, effort and money this will take. But good on you for taking this on - I think it's folks like you who can help save this hobby. Faith in UD not restored though, as there are still many issues, but heck, it's a step in the right direction. If this works, I hope to see UD taking their own such steps for future releases. But again, kudos to you for doing this on behalf of the hobby we enjoy so much.

Yes, yes, yes!!!! Well done! A big blow to the heathens who ruin our hobby, and a big step to restore honor and integrity. There is more work to be done, but this is a HUGE step. As much as it pains me to say it, I have to give UD props here too for being cooperative in this.
Since they benefit from this too, I really hope they do something nice for you!

SWEET!!! I never thought UD would take your offer up seriously, but I'm glad they did!!!

Also, I can't wait to see 'preview' pics of this years CUP. I'm assuming UD will allow you to take pictures of ALL patch cards? RC /249, /99, LL/50, Auto/Patch /75 etc etc? Let us know how it goes!

That is going to be a huge huge task. My guess is 5 to 7 days (if not more) to get photos of all the cards that contain jersey or patch pieces.

My hat is off to you sir. You should get a medal for this.

Very good story on Jeremy and UD's part. I will definately be chipping in some funds. Won't be much but I'm sure every little bit helps!

Great news Jeremy, and thank you for all of your hard work and dedication towards this project. For those of us who love to collect patches, this is a breath of fresh air, and definitely a move in the right direction. Also, thank you Upper Deck for listening to the collectors on this issue.

This is awesome news. Glad that they took you up on your offer, never expected that. Have some fun and know that this 'work' is going to do a lot of good.

Great news Jeremy! Good for you and good for them for responding to the issues by taking you up on your offer. There is no room for criticism when an effort is made of any degree.

Excellent news. It feels a bit reactive instead of proactive considering how long the solution has been tossed around by people in the hobby, like The MESSIAH said, but it is a giant step in the right direction, and that's what is best for the hobby. I give the UD guys credit for seeing that this was an issue, and making the correct adjustments. Way to go, Jeremy!

I think that's great, Jeremy. Definitely a step in the right direction.

Some things to consider. . .

What (if anything) will be done since you won't be able to photograph any patches for cards that are being issued as redemptions because the player hasn't returned them yet? Will there be a follow up trip? Or will Upper Deck photograph those and provide the images upon receipt from the player?

Who will be hosting the image archive? It would obviously have more credibility if it was directly on Upper Deck's website. Otherwise, people who are not "in the know" could challenge whether or not their patch (that might have been subsequently altered) is real or not.

I was thinking the same thing

We are still working out the details and will be looking closely at these potential issues and how best to handle them.

One thing I want everyone to understand is that my #1 priority here is to protect the hobby. Thanks for the feedback thus far and I welcome more.

In addition, there has been several comments about how this is reactive by UD, as if there is another way at this point in time. Anything they do now will be considered reactive. While we all would have liked this to happen earlier - better late than never!

Let's rally as a group and as a voice on this because one thing we all want is for UD to succeed because we like to add their product to our collections. In my opinion, this is a huge step in the right direction and it needs to handled with great care. And that is my intention.

Perhaps they will find the time and will power to do this for other brands and other sports - as hockey is not the only sport and the cup not the only product affected by forgers. Small step in the right direction. Glad you have gotten the ball rolling! :)
