Major Postal news...

Hey Folks, just got back from the post office. The ladies there know me quite well, so they warned me about some postal changes that will take place in September
For Canadians sending internationally (US or otherwise) they will no longer accept anything other than paper documents to go as "letter mail", but will have to be sent as a small packet.
Right now it costs me $1.70 plus GST to send a bubble mailer to the US. In September, it will be $3.95 for surface mail, $5.60 for air, plus GST.
They said that if it were just the hockey card itself with no plastic toploader than it would could go as letter mail, but with toploader...small packet. Sending within Canada will remain unchanged, $1 plus GST.
Just thought I'd give you a heads up. This is going to really increase ebay s/h fees from Canada to USA/International and will likely scare off a lot of International buyers from Canadian Ebayers/Traders etc...
 
They told me that today as well, however they can't tell what's in a bubble mailer once sealed! They actually asked me today what it was I was shipping and they said only paper is allowed, so I said hockey cards are paper, she never asked what I was shipping the cards in!!!

My packages are always sealed before I go there. Never have I told them that I collect hockey cards or they in fact were what I was sending out. I hope I will be able to continue to get away with it :). Wish me luck!

Also, theirs not that much of a difference from sending one card in a toploader than it is in just a regular soft sleeve. They will never know anyways, ;).
 
that's horrible...I guess we'll be saying goodbye to 3.00 shippinng charges and hello to 6.95 standard ugh!...worse part is most of the UD ice cards I obtain are coming from Canada

And that also means that Canadian shippers will STILL be overcharging because of the currency differences. Cripes.
 
Guess that means I'll have to up my S&H to $3.50 just to cover everything. Thankfully I get my mailers through my work. I only have to pay 29c/mailer, but most people (who don't plan for it) are paying 50c-$1 for theirs. The biggest pain for me is mailing the packages, since the post office I go to near work is always busy, which ends up being a 15-30 minute trip everytime.

not only are the inefficeint, they're also over priced.

This policy is ridiculous. "yeah, paper only, doesn't really matter what the paper is in, as long as it's only paper"
what kinda ******* policy is that?
"what, you have an overhead photocopy in there? that's technically plastic, 4$"
 
For me, it won't be a problem because I live 10 minutes from a boarder and whenever I have packages that I have to send to the US. I just go into the States and mail it from there. Problem solved for me.

So are the Canadian postal workers getting a raise ? Thats a huge increase in shipping charges. Someone turn Barney into the Inqusition(spanish).

I'm in the same boat with my UD Canadian Exclusives. :(

haha, nice, now i will not pay 5.60 to send something, thats stupid, so wait. now that means surface mail can take up to 6 weeks, WOW, :(

if they say only paper, there's plastic in a bubble mailer isn't there? lol

yeah for real, why would you send a paper document in a bubble mailer? Last time I checked, people weren't that concerned if a memo got a crease in it LOL. They're made to send small breakable items :rolleyes:

I don't see you stating in your auctions that the buyer will pay the exact cost of shipping.

No, but I also don't send in just a soft sleeve and top loader, either. Nor do I just put a bunch of stamps on it and hope for the best.
 
Same story from my post office.Now a person can really send about 4 cards for the $1.70 plus tax.As of Sept.you will only be able to send one card.I do not understand how they will police it.Surely they will not open evey package to see if you are sending more than one card.But one never knows.The best deal after Sept will be small packet.$5.60 and you can mail a set if you want.It will surely effect the auction business.People will not want to pay up to $6.00 to mail a single card by regular mail.Or $10.00 for xpress post for one card.
