I've seen 1st rounder, and I've seen 2nd rounder, so I will edit when confirmed.

I believe it was a first rounder. Pretty steep but honestly, those prospects aren’t huge, and I think L.A is going to have some decent cap issues, so they might be back in Toronto come free agency.

Sounds like an insurance policy when Gardiner has to go due to cap issues. This should be good for the Leafs, they can drop Hainsey down a bit and keep him fresher for PK duties. Also should allow Oz to maybe learn the game better at the AHL level if they make that move.

Dan.

I was thinking the other day how Hainsey paired with Rielly has really worked this year, as it has given Morgan a chance to be more creative, and certainly more productive, I wonder if putting him with Gardiner would help Jake wheel around like he does without having to worry about his partner having his back? Hainsey with Dermott would be sweet, I'm excited to see how it all pans out.

I'm fine with what they gave up, you have to give to get, and maybe it was a bit of an overpayment, but I doubt those prospects are gonna break the Leafs lineup anytime soon. LA was in a spot where they could get a good return for Muzzin, as a lot of teams are in the market for a decent defender.

So, does this mean that they moved out 2 contracts, and a 1st, for one contract, and if so, does that leave room to bring in one more body before the trade deadline, should a deal be out there? I think they were at the 50 maximum before this deal?

I like the trade. Muzzin is a good pick up. Not a bad price.. late first, 2 lower end prospects plus he has another yr left. He will eat up a lot of minutes and hopefully less of Zaitsev.

according to capfriendly. Leafs has 46/50 contracts and about 4mil left in cap space.

Really, I heard a few months ago they were at 50?

Sean Durzi was unsigned, so it didn't really open up any more spots for contracts. They will have a bit over $4 million in cap space at the deadline, so they can do something else if they want. I think I read Muzzin will only cost them about $1.3, or so million against the cap for the rest of the year.

I like this trade, as it gives Toronto a defenseman they so desperately needed, and it didn't cost them someone from their current roster. Toronto's depth pool in the minors is very strong, so giving up what they did was very good. I like it alot.

Kings fan here who has watched this kid develop from prospect to current day. He is a SOLID top 3 dman, no ifs, ands or buts about it. Leafs looking stacked.

LA tank for Jack Hughes begins now.

This post makes me feel good about this trade, Barrie knows his Kings.
Cheers.

If Gardiner walks next year (or gets booed out of town over the next few weeks) that still leaves the Leafs Muzzin for an extra year at the same money. Really good move.

It's a really good trade for the Leafs. Muzzin isn't what I would call an "elite" defenceman, he's not in that top tier category... but he's in that next tier down, IMO. (Can you name 62 dmen in the NHL better than him? I think not).

Leafs just added a guy who will sit #2 or #3 on their depth chart, and it cost them nothing of consequence. Yes a 1st round pick has value - but it's going to be a late 1st... so a player that likely won't have any NHL impact under 2022 at the earliest.

Love this deal as a leafs fan... Was looking forward to seeing Grundstrom in a bottom six role in a couple years but gotta give up something to get something!

Watching his first three games here you are 100% correct. Easily our #2 Dman. He absolutely owned the Ducks last night.

1 Goal, 2 Assists. In a matter of 30 seconds he destroyed Perry along the boards on a zone entry, suckered Richie into taking a dumb retaliatory penalty, and scored with a bomb from the point on that power play.

In all fairness, it is not hard for anybody to own the Ducks right now. :loseit: It has been tough to listen to these past few weeks. Not sure what they can do to turn it around.

Only 2 wins in their past 18, yet only 3 points out of a playoff spot. Crazy...

As far as Muzzin 'owning' the Ducks... I think the great thing is he actually looked like he just put in his usual work day; him scoring the goal was actually significant because it was as a member of the second PP unit, who usually get little ice time and have until now, had 4 forwards out there (with Jake Gardiner, who I'd rather see play forward).

Enjoying watching Muzzin so far (and displacing Ozhiganov is addition by subtraction).

Yea good player, plus giving up a late first isn't that much. This isn't the NFL...majority of the late round first rounders down really pan out anyway.
