The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Daniel Winnik to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for F Zach Sill, Pittsburgh's own second round pick in 2016 and Pittsburgh's own fourth round pick in 2015.

In 58 games this season, Winnik has seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points with a plus-minus rating of +15.

Sill has appeared in 42 games with the Penguins this season, scoring once and adding two assists to go with 60 minutes in penalties.

Like this deal. The pens got a good support player and we get picks. Very happy to see the leafs stockpile the picks..... Bring it on

We knew it was gonna happen, it was just a matter of who, and when. It hurts to lose the only guys who played their arses off this year for Toronto, like Winnik, and Santorelli, but they got some draft picks for them, when they could have walked away this summer for nothing, but it is what it is. As a Leafs fan though, I have zero reason to watch this team for the rest of the year, and at all for the foreseeable future. Time to take a break from Leafs collecting, and work on my HOF auto collection. :foottap:

I don't know much about Zach Sill but a few picks for a team that will lose Winnick in the off season and won't make the playoffs. This will also help with the lottery.

A 2nd and 4th for Winnik, dang. I wonder what the Hawks could get for Sharp, Bickell, or Versteeg then. If Winnik is worth a 2nd and 4th as a rental player, wow.... Great deal for TO, this is how you start the real rebuild process.

Picks are great,as long as Nonis has nothing
to do with the scouting process.Hopefully they
have competent scouts now as this was a sore
spot in the past.

One step further, Let's hope Nonis is canned before any drafting. Gotta be a total fresh start. Now let's move Lupul, Kessel or Phaneuf

I think Lupul is probably good as gone by the
deadline. If I was the janitor in the basement of
the ACC I'd be fearful of my job right now.If they
are really gonna do this,it has to be gutted from top
to bottom.I'll believe it when I see it.All though they
have traded three so far, none were a surprise.

Hunter will be the key with the scouting and drafting of young talent.

I like Hunter and his reputation of judging new talent. All the more reason for Nonis to go. He is there to be a scapegoat .... Just in case???Would have been nice to have a winick or santerelli a few years back when we actually had a shot against Boston.

This is just as exciting to watch the free fall of the leafs than the wild card race.... Is that sad or what

The Pens now only have 1 pick (2nd round) in the first 4 rounds of the draft. Then again, can't get something for nothing. Good riddance, Sill. Winnik should help.

Yeah,that's pretty sad..;)Sucks that they've stunk
for so long and now if they actually go through with it,
we now are expected to suffer a rebuild.I've already got
next to no interest in watching hockey on TV. (Only full game
I watched this season is the one I was at in Tampa)I've just
had enough of groundhog day.

I love the buds but this will be the first time in my lifetime that I won't watch games. I just don't care to watch a repeat of the pre Wendel Clark 80's Era leafs. I am too old. To #1@# tired. Go Habs until next year. Bring the cup home. Love hunter. I hope he can find good talent for us.

My dad told me this joke this morning. He is a Bruins fan. What do the Raps, Bluejays and Leafs have in common? None of them can play hockey. Lol

You mean you didn't like leafs greats such as Miroslav Frycer, Bob Manno,Fred Boimistruck

No but I do have Joe Lundrigans auto! Hahahaha. I chased that guy for years bec he was a newfie like us Deano. Don't forget motor city smitty.

Good trade for both... you can't 'buy' draft picks in the NHL, but this is as close as it comes - the Leafs signed Winnik for a year at a cost of $1.3 and that turned into a 2nd and 4th round pick. Good deal for the Leafs.

Should be a busy few days in Leaf land, hope they can keep it going with prospects and picks for the next few drafts. I hope they can move some of the big boys to free up some cap space. Not a great FA year but having extra space on a rebuild certainly won't hurt.

I like the deal. Now the Pens just need to send Adams to the pressbox and we'll finally have a bottom 6 that isn't one of the worst in the league...and a 4th line that might actually score a goal more often than once a season. (Sadly, I'm sure Adams still plays and Bennett sits). I get the main job of the 4th line isn't to score...but it says a lot when you can pick up a guy from waivers (arcobello) and he has 3x as many goals as your 4th line combined (when it was Sil-Goc-Adams).
