The Moose is loose again...at UD

Mark Messier signs an exclusive multi-year deal!:)

His first autograph issues will be in 07/08 Artifacts in October.

I hear Giuseffi's junk crawling and hiding as we speak.;)

Check around for info. Didn't see it on the UD.com site.

That's because UD isn't quite ready to guarantee anything yet. That's the impression they gave in San Diego. As erratic a signer as Messier is, they're hoping they won't have to go to redemptions. Once they get stuff in hand, I'm sure you'll see it on their site.

Chris, it's actually posted "somewhere" with Karvin quoted. But don't speaketh of that place!;)

Uh...Beckett's hardly at fault on that one. They - and we for that matter - SHOULD be able to take UD at their word when they give us a print run.

That nobody can do so is to UD's shame.

If you're referring to the SPA Gretzky numbers - those numbers came originally from the set checklist UD posted.

I just wish we'd get print-run ranges... like if SP is used in the checklist, then that should be defined as "100 to 200" or whatever... I was actually going after a bulk of Richard Brodeur Trilogy Scripts as it was SP then I realized that probably meant like 500... if I had known a range it would have been easier to budget for it. My two cents.

Apologies.....already been done on the last page and I missed it.

The Upper Deck Company Signs NHL Legend Mark Messier To Multi-Year Spokesman Deal

Retired Hero is the Latest to Sign Deal With the Premier Producer of Sports Collectibles

Carlsbad, CA (August 7, 2007) – Upper Deck (UD) announced today the signing of legendary hockey star Mark Messier to an multi-year contract, in which he will represent the company’s line of innovative NHL trading cards. Messier will be featured in Upper Deck products with autographed cards and on packaging. Additionally, the announcement comes as Messier is waiting for induction into the NHL’s Hall Of Fame as a member of the 2007 class. Messier’s first autographed cards will appear in Upper Deck Artifacts Hockey (SRP $9.99) and will be available in October just in time for the start of the new NHL season.

Messier, known as "Moose" on the ice to his devoted fans, spent more than two decades in the National Hockey League from 1978 through the 2004 playing for such storied franchises as the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks.

“Messier was an integral player on each of his respective teams; however, he may be best known for his revival of the New York Rangers as he led them to their first Stanley Cup Championship in 54 years during the 1993-94 campaign,”

commented Karvin Cheung, Hockey Product Manager for Upper Deck. “In total, Messier had his name etched on six Stanley Cup Trophies.

“I am excited to work with Upper Deck again," said hockey legend, Mark Messier. “Growing up as a kid, trading cards were always part of the culture of the game. It is great to see Upper Deck has remained committed to furthering this heritage. The quality of the Upper Deck trading cards are second to none and they continue to add unique products, which keep fans interested.”

“Mark Messier is known for being a leader, on and off the ice,” said Josh Zusman, Hockey Brand Manager for Upper Deck. “This makes him the ideal person to represent Upper Deck hockey products. Messier made such a impact on many people’s lives during his career that I know his cards will be some of the most highly sought after in the market. We look forward to teaming up with him as this union will no doubt bring a winning combination for hockey card collectors.”

I'm pumped.:) I would much rather spend my cash on nice High-end Messier pieces than the new flavor of the month Rookie.... I'll tip my cap to UD. When they got the exclusive license, I figured they wouldn't "need" to get guys like Orr, Lemieux, Messier back in the mix, but they have stepped up. Very cool IMO. Mike

Great to have more Moose autos out there, however this will drop the price and demand on some of his older ones.

Messier doesn't have much older stuff and most that he does have are serious SSP's so I don't think it will effect the older stuff too much. Just my opinion... Mike

Mike helped me to join the Messier autos owners club a few months ago :)

Great news that UD signed him!!

I hope they will put a Messier/Gretzky dual SOTT in Oilers uni in the next SPA.

They definitely need to put Messier into an autograph set wearing the blue and orange.

while we're hoping, i'm crossing my fingers that they could get Stevie Y back onto UD cards too
