Hello all,
The following cards are pickups from the month of May. As many are aware, I'm chasing very limited sets that are now 14 years old, so it is a daunting challenge to say the least. The aide I've received from the different forums and facebook group members in finding these cards has been superb, so thank you to everyone who has provided information leading to a purchase. Stay tuned for the top five pick ups at the end of the post. Now, onto the best that May had to offer me!
2005-06 McDonald's sealed packs
I happened upon a sale ad on kijiji for some sealed McDonald's packs from 05-06. These are becoming tougher to find as the years progress so I decided to grab all the packs he had available at a reduced price. Since I bought 22 packs in total, I figured I would rip one open for the fun of it. Well, I don't think I could have done much better than a pre-NHL Crosby appearance. Opening that old pack brings back great memories.
2005 UD PROMO Nicklas Lidstrom
I haven't added to this set in quite some time. The addition of the Lidstrom brings me to 62/200 or 31%.
2005-06 Beehive Matted Materials Milan Hejduk (2-colour)
I was pretty surprised when I noticed I didn't own any cards from this set. Partly because I'm picky with what I buy in terms of patches/jersey cards, but these seem to be readily available in abundance. Glad to finally add a nice two-colour Hedjuk to the collection.
2005-06 UD Fresh Ice Martin Havlat (2-colour)
This is the first multicolour copy I have seen, great add from COMC.
2005-06 Fleer Hot Materials Peter Budaj (2-colour)
Another COMC find and the first multicolour copy I have seen.
2005-06 UD Black Diamond Jerseys
Again, I was surprised to notice I did not previously own any copies from this set. Happy to add two and three colour copies of Lalime and Jokinen respectively.
2005-06 UD Shooting Stars Sergei Fedorov (3-colour)
Although it is not the first 3-colour version of this card that I have seen, it is the second haha. The first one is locked away in a PC and will likely remain there for a few more years. I'm glad I no longer have to wait for that specific card anymore
2005-06 UD Powerplay Jerseys
I love the design of these cards and I have yet to land a patch version /5. These cards are tough to find in dual or triple colours so I was pleased to find copies which fit the bill of Semenov, Antropov and Alfredsson.
2005-06 SPGU Awesome Authentics Nikolai Khabibulin (30/100)
My first card for this set is an awesome 3-colour Khabibulin card. Jersey cards of goaltenders always seem to look more awesome to me for some reason haha.
2005-06 UD Powerplay Impact Parallel
These cards would be tough to appreciate for the non parallel collector, however they are much more appealing in person. The Hasek is definitely the best of the three.
2005-06 UD Ultra Rookie Uniformity Jerseys
I was happy to add two 3-colour copies of Stewart and Jokinen this past month. The Anthony Stewart is the first 3-colour copy I have seen to date, and its a great replacement for my current single coloured swatch.
2005-06 SPGU Auto Parallel Nicklas Nordgren RC (4/5)
It's not very often that I find cards from this set, let alone at an affordable price. Couldn't hit the $20 BIN button fast enough.
2005-06 UD Series 1 and 2 Jersey Patch
A pair of great pickups for my UD patch sets, bringing my series 1 totals to 57/142 and my series 2 totals to 48/93. The Amonte is actually a duplicate, but it does show signs of discoloration and damage. The patch however is an upgrade from my single colour copy. The seller was kind enough to throw it in as part of the Kovalchuk deal, so if you read this, thanks!

#5. 2005-06 Ultra Rookie Uniformity Jersey Auto Henrik Lundqvist (6/25) PSA 9
Lundqvist pickups are going to become a theme in the top 5, as was the case in my March/April show-and-tell. For some reason I have been offered the chance to buy some really rare Lundqvist cards from two different Lundqvist collectors who made the decision to part with their cards. I've been incredibly lucky to have the first crack at both collections.
As for this card in particular, I remember first becoming aware of this 2-colour copy a few months ago and thinking to myself that I would pay a premium for the only 2-colour version in existence. Fast forward a few months and here it sits in my hands, funny how things work out.
#4. 2005 UD Canadian Fall Expo Henrik Lundqvist RC (2/10) PSA 10
I remember sitting at the then Metro Centre, waiting for the Mooseheads game to get underway, when I lost the bidding war on this card and a HG version a few years ago. I was in the middle of my degree and card money was tight, but I was willing to go a bit beyond my budget with my bid. I ended up losing both cards, probably for the better, but I was never able to secure a copy until now. Makes you realize that chances are you will eventually get a second chance at a card if you stick with it.
#3. 2005-06 SP Authentic SOTT Five Toivonen-Ward-Lundqvist-Danis-Howard (4/6) PSA 10
This card was a shocker. I did not think I would get a chance to own one of these cards, let alone a PSA 10. Most of these cards are locked away in a PC of one of the featured players. I feel incredibly lucky to have closed a deal on this card.
#2. 2005-06 UD Victory Black Henrik Lundqvist RC (5/5) PSA 9
This card was listed through a consignment site for ages, at a price which was a bit out of reach for me at the time, but just as I was ready to make the leap... it was SOLD. It has since been graded and came out a PSA 9 since the sale, which for those aware with the set, is a high grade given the black borders. When it was offered to me as part of the Lundqvist collection, I could not believe it. This addition now gives me 56/300 or 18.6% of the entire set.

#1C. 2005-06 UD High Glossy /10
Given how rare these cards are, this set has been growing a lot faster than I could have hoped for. In the month of May I added a total of 8 new High Gloss cards for my set. I feel particularly fortunate to have added the Zetterberg copy early in the ebay listing due to the his popularity among Swedish and Red Wing collectors. The 8 new additions brings me to 176/487 or 36.1% of the HG set. Below are 7 of the 8 HG pickups, who could be the 8th HG pick up you may ask yourself? Well....
#1B 2005-06 UD High Glossy Henrik Lundqvist RC (9/10) PSA 10
...Here it is! A Lundqvist HG rookie, in PSA 10 no less. It is also the exact same card on which I was out bid all those years ago along with the Canadian Fall Expo RC. This was arguably the top HG rookie that was missing from my set so I am ecstatic to cross it off the list. If you have an Ovechkin/Cart CL, Perry, Getzlaf, Parise or any High Gloss cards from this set, please do not hesitate to contact me. What on earth could be better than a Lundqvist HG RC?
#1A Mine Engineering Degree + Iron Ring
I have never worked so hard for any other piece of paper than this degree. It was an incredible 5 year program and I am very excited to begin my career. Hopefully now I will have time (and funds haha) to attend some card shows.
