Yikes, buyer paid a bit of a premium for the PSA 10 and looks like two bidders were responsible for the jump from 40K to the final price.

Absolutely unreal to drop 55K on a piece of Cardboard, alas it's going to be one of the most iconic new era cards. Would have been alot more fun to spend the 55K on cases of the 15/16 The Cup (if available still), Pray for the MCD and still be able to have a blast. Whilemake most of your return on everything that you wanted to sell from the breaks.

Nice to see the hobby get some attention. But the article is unfortunately missing lots of information on private sales that have occurred at much more than $18,100. I myself sold a modern card last summer for more than that and know of several others. Still cool though.

I'm sure the investor who bought the card will realize a profit on it when the time comes to sell....as long as McD's eventual winning record matches his personal hype.

Am I crazy or was the Crosby Cup RPA /99 not going for over $20k?

Classic Auctions sold a Crosby Cup RC in their winter auction for US$58,888 after bidding premiums were added. Was a three colour BGS9.

The news is currently even on the TSN Top Headlines.

The Edmonton media have been throwing a lot of coverage at this. And unfortunately, it's not as fully fleshed as one might hope - not a lot of attention paid to the fact that this is a tough pull, from a premium product, and that it has a difficult grade.

While I'm glad to see the hobby getting some attention, I am wary of the potential for another gold rush.
