Meigray Help Needed

I am looking for some feedback on what I should do next... I sent Meigray the following email on March 6, 2012.

Hello Meigray Folks

I have a question about my very first Game Used Jersey. A beautiful Sam Gagner Navy RBK 1.0 Size 56, complete with Meigray and Elite Sportswear tags. The Elite Sportswear tag has an additional notion of "The Battle of Alberta" and "October 18, 2008". It even features an autograph on the "9" of the back "89".... and the special "30th Anniversary" right shoulder patch.

Now, all was well... until I found that Sam Gagner didn't play in that game.

Nowhere on the game's stat pages does Sam Gagner appear... it is as though he wasn't even on the bench.




On the NHL website, it says:

"Sam Gagner will be a game-time decision after he slid awkwardly into the boards last night. He’ll undergo tests this afternoon and Marc Pouliot will most likely take his place."

"... Sam Gagner is a game-time decision with Marc Pouliot as the probable replacement on the Kid Line."

"ROSTER UPDATES: Edmonton... Sam Gagner is doubtful..."

" Zack Stortini will also draw into the lineup if Gagner can't go."

... nothing is mentioned on the score sheet on the NHL page... http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20082009/GS020074.HTM


on TSN's site http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=6052, they mention that Sam Gagner "2008/18/10. Undesclosed, day-to-day".


So... I am confused. Is there an error on the Meigray listing? I used the information on the Meigray Population Report as a big part of why I purchased this jersey. I would be a little disappointed to find out that this was not a game used jersey....

Any further information would help!

Jersey is probably game-issued, not game-worn.

Does it say "game worn" or "game issued" on the accompanying document?

Reading that, I can say is pretty much a fact that Gagner did not play on 10/18/2008

I'd give them two weeks to digest and potentially respond to your email, and call them if you've not heard back by then. I found them very easy to deal with on the phone although admittedly I never called them about a problem. I'm also curious about your response to the question posed by "Triple B" and what you understood when you bought the jersey or, more importantly, what Meigray told you at the time through their advertising.

The key is the "Promo" reference. The MGG Population Report Glossary defines this as:

Promo = Jersey Worn For Promotional Game or Purposes

In Gagner's case, perhaps it was only for "purposes". Not seeing the game myself, was there an on-ice ceremony that he may have been part of, even without dressing for the game? Or maybe it was just game-issued and not worn but they mistakenly kept the set as "Promo" since it was a promo game. All the other players in the Population Report for this game also say "Promo", so I can see the confusion. Hind-sight is always 20/20, but checking the games-stats and questioning the definiton of "Promo" may have been better BEFORE making the purchase. Hopefully Meigrey can help you out.

Give them a call and ask for Barry Meisel. Explain the situation to him.
Gauranteed he will make it right....either reimburse you or let you choose another. Or maybe adjust the price to a Game Issued if you still want it.
He is the Dr. Price of game worns. A collector and dealer who knows how to treat his customers.
Let us know what he says.

RESULTS!!!

I called up Meigray and... low and behold.... I was passed to Barry Meisel.


WHAT A CLASS ACT AND NICE GUY!!!


He explained to me that Meigray supplied the jersey to the Oilers and it was the Oilers who would have made the mistake of representing it as game used. After about a 20 minute call *(where Barry photomatched a Tommy Salo jersey for me)* I was left feeling really good about Meigray.

So... now my quest turns to the Oilers. I left a message early today.... no reponce by the end of the day. I am not holding my breath.... more updates to come....
