Memory Lane...

Was going through some boxes that I hadn't looked at for a while and came across these.

My first autograph cards, bought together, from a card shop in Whitehorse, Yukon.

I was only twelve at the time and these were about two weeks worth of allowance ($20 for the pair).


A year or so later I added my first game-used card, bought, with damage and all, from a shop in Ottawa, Ontario.

The Sens were (and still are) my favourite team and at the time he was THE guy in Ottawa. As much as I (and presumably most of Ottawa) have an utter distain for him, this card is sentimentally invaluable to me, so it stays in the collection.

Oh...and it cost me another two weeks of allowance ($20).


And if the day should come that I leave the hobby, I'll keep these cards, if only as a reminder of simpler times and the true joy a piece of cardboard used to bring me.

If you have a similar story please share it as I feel many collectors are losing touch with their hobby roots.

I agree with your sentiment of keeping certain cards for memories.

Here is mine,

My parents were in Prague several years ago and brought back some random packs from a sports shop of sorts. Anyways, from a single pack of Topps Premier Plus I managed to pull the card above. The odds were somewhere around 1:2500, not to mention the fact that it had been sitting inside that pack in Prague for who knows how long. . .It will never leave my possession.

This is my first big pull from the 1st time I collected back in the 90s. Its really all I have left from back then...

It doesnt get much better then this.

I wish I had a scan of it, but I still have the card that started my Forsberg collection. My dad pulled a "Certified Future" out of 95/96 Select. I'll never get rid of it because it reminds me of the good times I spent in the hobby with my dad.

A few more fond memories:

I'll never forget this one. My dad pulled a Kariya Triple during a stop at Dave & Adam's back when they were doing about the same in terms of bv/sales. My dad saw the Forsberg in the case and instantly traded the Kariya for the Forsberg. I can't remember being so thrilled. Another one that will never leave my collection:

I couldn't get it out of the screwdown which is scratched to hell.


This one is from Easter when I was about 10. Another boost to the Foppa collection from my dad:

And this one with my best friend, back when he was a Stefan collector (LOL). I scrounged together a bunch of lower-end Stefan rookies and was super happy to get this from him. It'll stay in my collection forever.
