Mets v. Cards game 4

Always watching...must have a decent effort out of Perez tonite. I say he goes 4 or 5 giving up 1 run and will leave with the Mets up 3 or 4 to 1...thats an optimistic view, but it will be a whole new series if the Mets can get the win tonight

Both pitchers struggled a little bit in the first inning and both got out of it. I think Reyes threw more pitches than Perez so the Mets just have to work the count a little bit.

No runs in the top of the 2nd, but a big 2 out hit by Chavez to keep the Mets from having to start the 3rd w/ the pitcher and now they can have the heart of their order. Reyes is already up to 52 pitches

Cardinals get one run in the Bot. 2nd but it could have been worse. Good throw to get Belliard at 3rd by Chavez. The Top of 3 is going to be a very good chance for the Mets to get some runs...LoDuca, Beltran and Delgado to lead off. Reyes is already over 50 pitches and it throwing strikes only 54% of the time. Have to take advantage of his mistakes...NOW!!!

Yea Baby!!!

That's what I'm talking about...homeruns by Beltran and Wright and the Mets lead 2-1. That's Wright's first hit of the series. Reyes is up to 69 pitches and the Mets are getting to him. Only three hits but they've had scoring opportunitites in all three innings. Perez has got to come out and preserve the lead. GO METS!!!

Well they tied the game up, but again it could have been worse. At least the Mets haven't had to go to their bullpen yet. Since Perez is not doing all that hot the Mets have got to get some runs while Reyes is still pitching. And I hope Jose Reyes is not looking for an acting career because his attempt to drop the ball on the line drive was ugly. Can't fault him though...good idea.

I am completely baffled as to why Perez was not bunting. Either have him bunt or pinch hit for him. He is useless swinging away. Missed chances again. On the other hand the Mets have the same starting three in the 5th as they did in the 3rd when they got the two runs.

Nice play by Valentin to end the inning. Perez got out of some more trouble and is pitching much better than I thought he would and a lot better than Trachsel last nite.

Thats What I'm Talking About

Three run homer by Delgado puts the Mets up 5-2. Had a chance to get more but Perez had some ugly swings to end the inning. Randolph is sticking with Perez for now...we'll see how long that lasts. 1-2-3 hitters coming up for the Mets in the 6th and the 3-4-5 hitters all have homers. St. Louis went through two pitchers that inning. Thompson got the brunt of it and on a side not...he really looks like a female.

Perez gives up a homer to Eckstein but comes back to get the next three including a big strikeout of Pujols. Not a bad inning and the Mets still have a 2 run lead. 1-2-3 hitters coming up!!!

Big Inning!!!

Mets bat around and put up 6 runs in the top of the 6th for an 11-3 lead. Now Perez needs to pitch as far as he can to preserve the bullpen for Monday.

The Cards had been battling back all night even after Delgado three run shot Eckstein homers in the bottom half of the inning. Mets have been hitting great though and like moomoo891 stated a blow out now. Mets will get to go back home to play by evening the series up 2-2 unless the Cards go nuts in the late innings.

Cards put up 2 runs on 2 homers in the bottom of the 6th to make it 11-5. Oliver Perez is yanked for Chad Bradford. Mets put up one run in the 7th on a Beltran homer. Its now 12-5. Coming into the game, the Mets had only 2 batters with a .300+ average. They now have 4.

No runs in the bottom of the 7th...sweet double play to make Pujols bat with nobody on. Mets are playing much better tonight than game 3

Reyes makes a baserunning mistake on a fly ball by LoDuca for a double play to end the inning. Mota comes in to replace Bradford for the bottom of the 9th.

Big Win!!

Double play to end the game and the Mets win game 5 12-5. Big win for the Metropolitans as it makes this essentially a 3 game series. Glavine will go tomorrow and it waits to be seen what kind of stuff he has on only 3 days rest. The Mets are back on track and riding high into game 5. And they get a chance back at Shea come Wednesday.
