Milan Lucic hit on Ryan Miller.

Everyone saying that goalies should be fair game outside of the crease have never played in net. Goalies can't brace and take hits like players can. The equipment doesn't allow you to take a hit the way a player would, nor do the skates or anything else.

Goalies are at a considerable disadvantage in the hitting department compared to others

if miller was out of his crease..
then he's fair game..
hope he had his head up...

You know nothing about hockey or it's rules, pretty sad.

A goalie is never "fair game" crease or no crease. Ironic the Goon fans I mean Bruins fans love the hit that caused a concussion, maybe I should make a celebration thread on Savard having to retire due to a headshot, guess Savard should have had his head up :birthday:

Don't worry, Big Zack Kassian will be called up for the next Bruins game and he will take out Lucic.

Bring back the " Battlin' Billie" Mentality and allow the goalies to "protect" their creases and personal space,no matter where you are on the ice and hockey won't have them guys "running" around and thinking that it's ok.
With Billy Smith they thought twice about possibly even coming close to him--at least within sticks reach--he gained that "respect" by the "fear" of what could happen.
If they allow the goalies to do as Smith once did;those who argue the "goon factor" ;this type of policing will cut out cheap crap and cut out the let me run your goalie game plan.

As a Sabres fan,I am embarassed that Miller didn't get up and stand up for himself AND the team didn't do anything more than play grab azz behind the net to "retaliate" for the incident.
I guess the team is at a turning point of thier season--"Put up or Shut up"..Need more consitency in thier play and play more like a team--seems like every interview (Miller included)there's never a "team idealism" in what they are saying.

GO SABRES and get your butts in gear--Gonna Whine or play Hockey?

Seems now the so called goalie controversy here in Buffalo will be squashed for a bit. Nuttin' has been said on how long Miller would be out. The big thing that has been the buzz in local media is it appears that the players on the ice really did nothing in response to defending their teammate. As it was mentioned before, maybe there is no cohesiveness between these teammates. If it was Enroth would the reaction have been different. Worst case it appears we will get to see Enroth on a much longer basis. I bet Miller stays out at least 5-7 games min. Any guesses???

Well it obvious that someone does not know sarcasm when they see it... I am a Bruins fan and I never wish a concussion on anyone. Hitting Miller was wrong and it deserved a penality. You mention Savard who was hit from behind.. Miller saw Lucic coming.. You call Bruins fans Goon fans but you then go on to say they will call up Kassian to "take out Lucic" now who is the goon fan.

It was not a hit, more like a collision. Both thought they were going to get the puck first but everyone knows what's gonna happen when two big players race each other towards the puck...and noone is going to move. Bam!

Yes Miller should have reacted like Hextall did in the good old days and it would have been settled right away.

The thumb down goes to Sabre players on the ice during this... They should have acted like the wings here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CML5iWWke40

+1 :owned:

Lucic seen him braced and hit him with his shoulder, not sure how anyone can belive it was accidently. I have watched it about 100 times and it certainly wasn't accidently contact. I like the Bruins and Lucic but I think he showed poor taste there and it was pretty classless. Players need to show some level of respect in certain situations and this is one of them. A heavy weight hitting a goalie in open ice whil he is playing the puck. The NHL needs to start protecting goalies, there is way too much contact to them. Sure he was out but he could have easily avoided him but he didn't want to. Instead of looking good and tough it only made him and the Bruins look worse.

I do agree that goalies should be protected and Lucic's hit was classless but we also need to take into account goalies that come outside their crease and make contact with players trying to screen them and then acting like they have been gut shot in order to draw a penalty.

Yup, Lucic had more than enough time to avoid hitting Miller

If that's the case, then Miller had more than enough time to avoid the hit himself, right? Instead he braced for it, or leaned into it, whatever. I don't think either player tried to avoid this, and I don't blame either of them more than the other.

Hearing going on right now. He should get a few games, but who knows with the NHL.

Not really sure how anyone can argue against the hit, or call it incidental contact. He had time to let up and chose to plow into him. Funny how it's the usual suspects calling the goalie fair game.

Two things...

1. Did the Sabres consult with Dr. Recchi when they diagnosed him with a concussion, or are they just embellishing this in the hopes of getting a suspension.

2. I hope Ryan Miller doesn't have the gall to go see a movie, and if he does he darn sure better not tweet about it.

Lucic really summed it up with his own words: "we're a different kind of team than they are." Truer words have never been spoken.

That's good stuff. Pretty funny.

Funny you should mention that. Some B's fans on another hockey board I frequent ARE saying the Sabres are embellishing the injury. Par for the course for some of them.

Haha, that whole movie theatre debacle was ridiculous. I remember reading somewhere that when Boogard had a serious concussion one of the only places he was able to go to was the movie theatre, because it was cool and dark in there. I wonder if they thought he was faking it, too?

Wrong.

A goalie does not have the mobility of a skater. Plain and simple fact.

One player could have easily chosen to avoid this. One, not so easily. The player who could easily have avoided it, didn't. The one who could not easily avoid it, 'braced' himself for the inevitable contact.

I cannot say I'm overly surprised at that announcement. I'm sure that the Sabres have nothing better to do than to keep their best player off the ice for an extended period just to keep Milan Lucic out of game action for a week.
