So I was at Target today killing time before I could get a new phone and I ran across two blaster boxes of Pinnacle. The box said this:

002-1.jpg

I thought to myself, "why would a company that is trying to promote the health of the hobby shop have the same hits as a hobby box at a cost of roughly 1/5 of the price of a hobby box"

I bought these thinking that I would pull one or two Dufex parallels and one or two rookie cards. Sure enough, out pops on Rink Collection and one Rookie per box.

A bit short of the four per box that the box claims.

To top it off, 5 out of the 8 packs out of each box were 100% identical. The only ones that were different were the cards that had the insert/rookie in it.

People that buy these are not going to be happy

Thanks for the heads up

Dan

Guess their collation for the retail boxes is done the same way as the hobby :p

As for the insert ratio, I still wouldn't make a judgement from one box - it is an average over the print run remember...

Kev,

It was two blasters (from the same shipment) and each one had the same. One Rookie and one Rink Collection.

I was just trying to take the view point of a hobby shop owner if out of a 8 pack blaster you get four rink and four rookies for $20.00. I would be pissed.

Looks like they made a huge mistake and used the text from the Hobby boxes on the retail blasters. Unlike another company who would hide behind the "It says on average" excuse, I hope they make it right for whoever purchases these under false advertising. There are a lot of young kids and parents of said kids who will purchase these and not know anything about blasters, and will be very upset.

So far we know two things for sure about Panini, their collation is horrible, and they need a new proof reader.

Ahhh sorry man - missed that you got 2 - thought maybe it was just a fluke :(

And here's the Grosnor info on the Retail boxes...

Box Break
Four Ice Breakers Rookie Cards
Four Museum Collection parallels
One Tough Times
One autograph or memorabilia hits, including Pinnacle Threads, City Lights, Pinnacle Penmanship, Rookie Team Pinnacle Signatures and many more!

I think somebody's got some 'splainin' to do...

let panini work out the kinks in the first year, but man those blasters are a good read, good thing i havent been to walmart lately, I might have picked some up with that type of description.

Should this really be a legit excuse? It's not like they're new to cards...just hockey. Are all their other sports releases this bad collation-wise?

Kev

I've bought two blasters of their 10/11 Prestige basketball product without dupes.

This is very sad. One, the blaster is an entry point for new collectors. Two, it might have been a chance to catch the eye of a collector who left in the 90's and bring them back into the fold. Hopefully the PR folks at Panini can come up with a winning solution.

Unfortunately, we never see QC boxes of blasters. We opened a case of regular Retail boxes and that's apparently where the text on the blasters came from. Those had the correct hits. The higher ups are now aware of the situation and are working on a solution.
