Hey Team,

So, if anyone saw, I redid my PC over Christmas vacation and got all my new vintage projects into binders. Looking for some people with vintage experience again to comment on some thoughts/questions I have.

My 54/55 Topps are stored in vintage sized penny sleeves & vintage toploaders and tucked into 4 pocket pages with a sticky dot on the back to keep them from falling out. Works ok but it seems like it's a little too much weight for the page and just feels a bit awkward flipping them.

I have some Topps partial sets in 9 pocket Ultra Pro Platinum pages. Looks great, etc. The question that popped into my head came when I was sticking a 63/64 Topps Bobby Hull into a pocket. Does this card need a little better security than just a pocket?

I also have a bunch of old Parkies incoming including some with pretty decent values. Those cards are slightly taller so the regular 9 pockets probably aren't a good idea anyway and I started wondering, and here's where I need help.

I see a lot of people using the semi-rigid holders, like PSA requires for grading submissions. I've gotten a ton of cards in the mail in these, and most of the time it's just this holder, no penny sleeve. Even one of the bigger vintage dealers on eBay sends them like this.

Are these holders safe for long-term storage without a penny sleeve? Would there be any issues with sticking, surface damage, etc?

I'm kind of liking the idea of doing those and 4-pocket pages and ditching the 9 pockets on all sets that have anything of fairly significant value. One key point is I want uniformity across the set meaning that all X number of cards are stored in the same manner. The toploader system I have for the 54 Topps would take up too much space, and I don't know that I'm a huge fan of that idea now that I've had them stored that way.

I'd really appreciate feedback or thoughts on anyone that has any experience with storing vintage in the semi-rigids?

Something that may work. But it would cut back some on a clear visual of the cards. But the 4 pocket pages do have a soft sleeve that will fit very nicely inside the pages. So why not just put you over size vintage cards in a proper soft sleeve and then put it inside one of the ones that fit nicely inside the 4 pocket pages. There really will not much weight added and flipping the pages to look at your cards show not be an issue. Just a thought.Good luck.

I thought about this too but I'd like something slightly more protective than that. That's what got me thinking about the semi-rigids.

I see a ton of SELLERS ship vintage cards WITHOUT penny sleeves in semis but I can't seem to find anyone who uses this method for long term storage. Thinking it might be best to do penny sleeve, semi, 4 pocket call it a day.

That is a great idea. But for me I just find that those semi rigid holders way too hard to get cards into and have them lined up so they display well. But that is just me.I know that the semi rigid come in many different sizes so if you could find one that is a snug fit into the 4 pocket pages that this may be even better than I would think. Good Luck.

Well, I picked up 400 of them today so we'll see, LOL! I think even my 54/55 Topps are going into them. That way all vintage sets will be stored the exact same way and should look nice and neat. I hope!

Actually, it wasn't bad at all to get the cards to line up. The holders sort of center the card for you at a point and you're good.

I like this setup, for now, better than the toploaders in 4-pocket pages for a few reasons. The holders fill the pocket better, they're thinner and lay more flat, and the weight is more evenly distributed in the pocket. They also don't move around as much as the toploaders tended to so I didn't have to use the little removable stickdots I was just recently to keep the toploaders in.

I think it's a win....until next week when I'm whining about THIS now, LOL.
