Hey Team,
So, if anyone saw, I redid my PC over Christmas vacation and got all my new vintage projects into binders. Looking for some people with vintage experience again to comment on some thoughts/questions I have.
My 54/55 Topps are stored in vintage sized penny sleeves & vintage toploaders and tucked into 4 pocket pages with a sticky dot on the back to keep them from falling out. Works ok but it seems like it's a little too much weight for the page and just feels a bit awkward flipping them.
I have some Topps partial sets in 9 pocket Ultra Pro Platinum pages. Looks great, etc. The question that popped into my head came when I was sticking a 63/64 Topps Bobby Hull into a pocket. Does this card need a little better security than just a pocket?
I also have a bunch of old Parkies incoming including some with pretty decent values. Those cards are slightly taller so the regular 9 pockets probably aren't a good idea anyway and I started wondering, and here's where I need help.
I see a lot of people using the semi-rigid holders, like PSA requires for grading submissions. I've gotten a ton of cards in the mail in these, and most of the time it's just this holder, no penny sleeve. Even one of the bigger vintage dealers on eBay sends them like this.
Are these holders safe for long-term storage without a penny sleeve? Would there be any issues with sticking, surface damage, etc?
I'm kind of liking the idea of doing those and 4-pocket pages and ditching the 9 pockets on all sets that have anything of fairly significant value. One key point is I want uniformity across the set meaning that all X number of cards are stored in the same manner. The toploader system I have for the 54 Topps would take up too much space, and I don't know that I'm a huge fan of that idea now that I've had them stored that way.
I'd really appreciate feedback or thoughts on anyone that has any experience with storing vintage in the semi-rigids?
