According to Ottawa Senators General Manager and head coach Bryan Murray, Ray Emery's tenure in the Nation's capital is likely over.

The Senator's top brass met with the media Friday to wrap up what turned out to be a disappointing season. When the subject of Emery was raised, Murray made his position clear.

"My plan is not to have him back," Murray told reporters.

Team owner Eugene Melnyk, who was part of the press conference refused to comment on the Emery situation.

Plus, A buyout might be the most logical option for the Senators regarding their much maligned keeper. Emery is still owed two years and $6.75 million on the contract he signed last off-season after helping lead the Senators to the Stanley Cup final.

The Senators caught a bit of a break because Emery does not turn 26 years old until September 28. That means that the team is obliged to pay him one-third of his remaining salary, not the two-thirds amount that is paid out to players who are 26 or older at the time of the buyout.
 
It's too bad... he had a great run last year, he was a bit of a loose cannon, but it was part of his 'character.' This year the attitude became all consuming. He needs a fresh start for sure, the team has to move on. No turning back now... if he really wants to change for the better, it will be somewhere else. Likely a starter on the farm somewhere, working his way back up or working his way out of Pro hockey... up to him.

A.I did not show up for practice. Emery started fights with teammates in practice. Isnt Murray being way over the point that Emery is not going to be with the Sens next season. You just made his trade value a big fat zero, unless they will buy him out.
 
I think this entire episode screams mismanagement from the GM and coaching staff. When talking about 'loose cannon' goaltenders some other names come to mind....Billy Smith, Dominik Hasek, Ron Hextall, Ed Belfour. They were all a tad disruptive from time-to-time, and I would say they all had pretty decent careers.

If Roberto does not want to sign a long term deal with the "Nucks, they will most likely trade him. They don't want to lose him when he becomes a UFA. I think that Spezza deal is more real than people think

He's got two more years on his contract and apparently loves Vancouver (not as much as Florida, but I guess that's understandable). There's no chance Vancouver will trade him this year for sure... maybe next, if he doesn't come to the table to renegotiate the contract. Guess we'll see who steps in Nonis office and what he can bring to the table.
