Hello everyone,

I just started collecting not too too long ago, well which is partially a lie as I collected cards back in 1997, but I had no money so buying a pack or two was about the extent of my collection.

How the rainbow all started
Not too long ago I bought into a box break of Panini Prime at my local hobby shop, OT Sports Cards, and hit a 2012/13 Panini Dominion Pavel Bure base card. Nothing special, but it was special to me given that it was my first card I got from a box break! This whole box break thing was completely new to me plus it was numbered /125 which I thought was epic! Since my collection from the 90s, the lowest I ever had was a /500 card.

Fast forward to Nov 2, 2014
What an awesome day Nov 2, 2014 was the retirement of Pavel's jersey at Rogers Arena here in Vancouver.

Here's a shot of me looking hella tired, but very happy to meet my childhood hero! It costed $92 to shake his hand and get an auto but I thought it was well worth it.
And this is what I turned my first box break hit into!

At first I was bummed out cuz of the smudge, but looking closely I got Bure's thumb print! He signed the card and held the card as he returned it to me.

Who knows maybe that'll be a new trend soon for sports cards

Gold
Probably the most uneventful part of my rainbow, I bought this off eBay. Nothing special. But I am looking for #3/25 if anyone sees it give me a shout pls!

Emerald
This was the worst part of the rainbow especially since I ran into a greedy and sneaky guy on eBay. He's also on one of these forums (HI/SCF/CnC). The seller had the card listed on eBay for $120 OBO. I offered $80 and he accepted. Simultaneously there was another emerald on eBay going for Bid. It ended at $97 or so and I lost it because I didn't think it'd end so darn high, plus I already had the $80 OBO from this seller. So it just did not make sense to bid so high. I then made a rookie mistake and with the payment being sent to the seller I left a note saying thank you very much for the Emerald card! This will go well with my rainbow.
Long story short he refunded my money and re-listed the card for $120. His reason was he would not sell to me on eBay because of my lack of feedback. I guess he doesn't know this but that's a violation of eBay policies. I sent him a note on eBay asking what happened and left him my username on the forums. He messaged me on the forums saying he needed to do an FBI background check on who gets his card as he is very picky about the recipients of his cards. This made me laugh out loud because if he was really that concerned about who gets the cards maybe he shouldn't be selling them publicly on eBay. I wanted the card so I politely asked him to honour his word of accepting my offer of $80, however he denied accepting the offer even though it's black and white on eBay. Furthermore he made ridiculous demands saying he will only sell the card if I pay him by a certain day through some other purchasing system. This guy just made me feel bitter but I took a step backwards and figured bah it's just cardboard. Plus complaining to eBay wouldn't get me the card I wanted. I never did leave him negative feedback on eBay - not sure why, but I guess I was feeling generous.

At this point I figured I would have to to risk getting the last two Emerald cards out there to complete the rainbow since this guy was being unreasonable and unhonourable. I thought to myself, if this happens it'll make the collection that much more special to me. Knowing that I didn't succumb to make the purchase from a bad seller. I watched box break videos on youtube and searched high and low for the card with no luck.

A few months later I luckily found the card listed on sale on eBay. It made me so happy that I did not bit the bullet and buy it from the other seller. What a sigh of relief.

Taste the rainbow
While the Emerald card was happening I, luckily already had the Black 1 of 1 in my pocket. It came from Berlin Germany where the seller asked for $200 but took my offer of $100. What a gentleman, the card even came in a one touch magnetic case.

And that's it!

I guess no rainbow comes easy. It took me quite a while to piece this together. It was my 1st box break hit, my 1st hand autographed card, 1st time meeting Pavel Bure, my 1st rainbow and my 1st bad encounter with an eBay seller. Hah should prob scratch that last one from memory but it's all good now because its done!
