It was very difficult to narrow my mail from the past year and a half to only 10 cards so I opted to create a top 20 instead. While in the process of selecting the top 20 I came across a card I initially had forgotten to include so... here is a top 21 instead haha.
#21. 2005-06 SP Authentic Notables Corey Crawford RC /100
This card just squeaked into the #21 spot. I love the black notable versions of the SP Authentic rookie. It could just be the parallel loving side of me but I think it looks sharper than the simple white background. I would have loved to see a black parallel for the Crosby and Ovechkin SP Authentic rookie numbered to 50 or something similar.

#20. The Cup Printing Plate Set of Brayden Coburn /1
Coming in at number 20 is a complete set of all four of Brayden Coburn's printing plates from the cup depicting his Black Diamond Rookie. A fellow member on this board was willing to part with pieces of his collection and I was not going to pass up the opportunity to add this to my 2005-06 collection.

#19. 2005-06 UD Artifacts Gold Rookies /1
#19 belongs to a pair of rookies from Artifacts which are both numbered 1 of 1, Brule and Howard. While not the most flashy cards produced this year, they are tough to find. Howard has gone on to have a decent career in Detroit, while Brule headed to the KHL after his cup of coffee in the league.

#18. 2005-06 SPx Winning Combos Jersey Gretzky-Crosby /350
These two need no introduction and are considered by many to be the best of their respective era. What makes this card so special is that both jersey windows feature a dual coloured swatch. In my years of collecting I've seen a few versions of this card featuring a multicolored swatch for one of the two windows and they fetch a pretty penny. However this is the only card I've seen with dual 2-colour swatches.

#17. 2005-06 UD Fleer Ultra Rookie Uniformity Patch Ovechkin /35
Almost anything I acquire of Ovechkin from his rookie year is special to me, but this card stands out due to the 3-colour patch featured in the patch window. I've only seen about 2 or 3 other versions of this card with a 3-colour patch and I have never seen a 4-colour version. If there is one out there that exists please let me know!

#16. 2005-06 UD Fleer Ultra Scoring Kings Jersey Crosby PSA 9
Having previously owned a 2-colour version of this card, I know how hard finding multicolored copies of this card can be. When I had the chance to purchase a 3-colour version, graded PSA 9 no less, I couldn't pass it up. A truly stunning card in person.

#15. 2005-06 UD Ultimate Debut Threads Patch & Signature Bourque /10
While not the most famous Bourque, Rene Bourque fashioned a nice career for himself in the NHL and even made the Canadian Olympic team this past year. The 5-colour patch on this card is popping in person (look at the corners for all 5 colours). Having the card numbered to ten means there may not be another 5 colour piece out there to be had.

#14. 2005-06 UD Ultimate Premium Patches Roy /35
This card is another one that requires in-person viewing in order to truly appreciate the patch. It comes from the inner "A" from the Avalanche. I've always loved being able to tell where on the jersey a patch comes from, and it doesn't get much more obvious than this.

The Ultimate collection from 2005-06 featured some of my favourite card designs of all time, even making the plain jersey cards look pretty awesome. These two are no exception, the 4-colour Ovechkin is one of only two I know exist, while the Crosby is a tough find. I'm not sure if a 3-colour Crosby exists, maybe someone on the board has seen one before? Please let me know

I absolutely love the patch on this Kovalchuk. It seems that Upper Deck tried to jam as many colours as possible into the tiny patch window. Exactly how 1 of 1 cards should be designed in my opinion.

#11. 2005-06 UD MVP Gold Rookies Crosby and Ovechkin /100
I find that rookie cards even numbered to 100 for both Crosby and Ovechkin are becoming tougher to find or are getting exponentially more expensive, particularly after their cup wins. So obtaining these two was a huge addition to the collection.

This card was found on Kijiji of all places at an extremely good price. I remember a member on the board had been looking for a copy of this card for years and luckily he found one. Knowing how long he took to get one, I figured I'd buy one while I had the chance.

Its fitting that #8 is an Ovechkin card, especially after the year he had. What makes this so special is that it is a 4-colour patch, fit within a relatively small window. You can also identify what part of the logo it is from, the "IT" from the word "CAPITALS" turned upside down.

The only patch which outduel the previous ovechkin patch is yet another Ovechkin patch from Ultimate but bigger! Ultimate really killed it that year haha. This 4-colour patch comes from the "LS" from the word "CAPITALS" and turned upside down.

These Hot Prospects En Fuego shields are among the nicest shield designs I've ever seen. With the addition of the Bourque, I now sit at 6 total shields. The 3 other en fuego cards are base parallels, though not household names per say, are still nice in their own right. As a side note, has anyone heard of or seen the Crosby or Ovechkin versions of these cards? Please let me know if you have any info on these, thanks in advance!

#5. 2005-06 UD Black Diamond Onyx Parallel /1
I'm not 100% sure how this began but it seemed that these found me everywhere I looked. To date I've obtained 9 Onyx parallel cards plus 1 Onyx Gemography Parallel. These are very sharp in person, and if I had to pick a favourite I'd have to go with the Brodeur. Not only because I prefer goalies or that he is now a Hall of Famer, but because I remember first laying eyes on this card when I checked a post on the board from 2005. The member had pulled it himself and then it was never mentioned again. Its cool to think about how many people have owned it since then before ending up in my collection.

#4. 2005-06 UD Ultimate Signature Logos Staal /1
It seems fitting that Eric Staal would be featured in this post right after scoring his 400th goal and coming off his highest goal total (42) since winning the cup in , ironically, 2005-06 when he potted 45. There's not much more that can be said for this card that the scan cannot say itself.

#3. 2005-06 SP Authentic Rareified Rookies /1
Its not often that these cards are offered in the market since it usually means that a player collector has decided to part ways with their collection. Luckily for me, a Perry collector decided to part with his collection, including this beautiful Rareified rookie 1/1. The Budaj, which is graded BGS 9, came from a PWCC auction. It's not often that I bid on PWCC auctions, let alone win one, but I really wanted this one haha.

#2. 2005-06 UD Rookies graded BGS Pristine 10 of Crosby and Ovechkin-Carter CL
As you may have seen in Part 2 of this thread, I'm collecting as many Young Guns from 2005-06 in BGS 10. Although I did have the Ovechkin YG, there was a giant hole left in the set. This would be the Crosby. After his cup win in 2016 there was a big jump in Crosby rookie prices, followed by another cup win in 2017 and another price jump. I was starting to think that I had missed my window of affordability and would have to pay way more than planned in the future. Luckily another collector had his sights set for a different PC item and was willing to sell his Crosby BGS 10. After negotiating for a few days, we came to an agreement and I now own the famed rookie card. What concerned me the most about the Ovechkin-Carter CL RC was that I had never seen one before. As of today, the population report for this card is only 4. When I saw it for sale I knew I had to take the chance since I didn't know when another would be made available, if at all.

I still cannot believe I own this card. Maybe it was the insane ebay listings of 100k + that were being asked on every listing of this card, or that there are so many high end Crosby collectors out there with deep pockets, but I truly thought this card was unattainable. Not only did I manage to acquire one, but it is graded BGS 9 and its a 3-colour patch! But wait there's more.. The seller sent me a really cool photo of this card prior to having it graded which shows exactly which part of the logo the patch came from. As you can see in the picture, the patch actually comes from the penguin head right on the crest enveloping the eye, beak and part of the golden backdrop! I could not believe my eyes when the card arrived in the mail and I laid eyes on it in person for the first time. But what on earth could beat out this card for the top spot on the top 21 list!? Well...

#1a. 2005-06 The Cup Gold Ovechkin 4-colour patch 6/8
Another card previously thought to be well out of reach for me, I honestly cannot believe this card belongs to me. I had seen about 3 or 4 Ovechkin Cup RC Golds in PCs over the years and knew they went for big money. I began keeping track of which Ovie golds I had seen and came to a grand total of 6 out of the 8. Of these 6, only 1 barely showed 4-colours on the patch. When this card was offered for sale I didn't think much of it since the scan was not very good on the ad. Upon further inspection I noticed that there was a definitive blue stitching right down the middle making this the nicest Ovechkin gold I had ever seen! Again, I did not think I would be able to afford such a high end card and locked in the highest bid I'd ever entered for a card. I watched the auction every minute it seemed as the auction drew to a close. And to my surprise I had won the auction for less than my maximum bid! I could not believe it! And to make things even better, Ovechkin went on a playoff run unlike we've ever seen from him before, won the Conn Smythe and finally the Stanley Cup! Since then his prices have increased dramatically and this card would go for much more than I paid for it. I sincerely believe that Ovechkin will go down as the greatest goal pure goal scorer of all-time when all is said and down. He is also the only player in my opinion that has a legitimately shot and eclipsing Gordie Howe's goal total and possibly even Gretzky's. As it stands, he is 17th all-time and 275 goals behind the great one. Not saying he will do it but there's a chance.
